Surprise! Skull and Bones has been delayed again, for the sixth time by our reckoning, which has to be some kind of record. If you can believe it, the constantly drifting pirate game now targets a vague Q1 2024 window. Word comes to us through Ubisoft, as today is financial report day, and along with the frankly unsurprising nautical news, we learned that a "large game" likely to be Star Wars Outlaws appears to have been delayed as well.
Skull and Bones was announced back in 2017, and there was definitely an appetite for its pitch: a multiplayer pirate outing based on the best parts of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. Since then, Sea of Thieves (admittedly not on PlayStation) has seemingly satisfied that demand, albeit in a more zany fashion. So many caveats have been made in the intervening years that we can't imagine this pirate ship will set the world on fire whenever it finally does limp out of harbour.
Are you excited about Skull and Bones at this stage, or were you at another? What are the odds of it hitting this next release window? Place your bets in the comments section below.

How have they not canceled this yet??
It's honestly impressive that the devs are convinced this game will ever see the light of day...
They should just cancel the game at this point
They called it Skull and Bones because that's what we're all going to be by the time it comes out.
That's the third time I've made that joke and it somehow gets more true each time.
@Nepp67 Because legally they can't though i'm they wish they could.
Cue "Nobody Cares" meme.
At this point Ubisoft should just give the money back so they can cancel this game for good.
I mean, it’s pretty clear they’ve fallen into a sunken cost fallacy at this point.
Did they start development over and they’re making it in “Dreams” now? 🤷🏻♂️
I'm certain they want to take it to the back and finish it off but they legally can't 😆
Seriously…what a mess.
@CieloAzure Probably a lot cheaper too.
From what I saw of the gameplay they showed off last year (this year?), it looked like a stripped back Assassin's Creed IV. I really can't see the point of it.
Just call it what it is, vaporware.
When this gets released i'm afraid i'll probably be skull and bones...
Jeez it'll probably be a new gaming generation when this thing would be released
I will be very excited if it's offline and a retail disc. If not won't be getting my money 👍
What will come first? Skull and Bones or The Winds of Winter? My money is currently on the latter!
@Mad001 Physical media's dying, get over it.
Nothing but vapourware.
@Smiffy01 lol I know but in the words of overlorddvd I'm staying angry against this lol
Have a good weekend buddy 👍
Ubisoft should do a deal with Disney and slap pirates of the Caribbean all over it, so it has at least a fighting chance
@Mad001 Haha keep on keeping on, have a good one too 👍
Please, just let this game to rest. There are alrrady rumors of a Black Flag remake. At this point, why even have skulls and bones now?
If you drew a line representing this game and when it will release you will get an asymptote never reaching the release date axis.
@Nepp67 lmao legally they can't now
It's a Damm shame other sequel games got canned for this game
Looking forward to the next delay
It has now become an urban myth
The longer it goes on, the less likely it will be successful enough to warrant supporting or even continuing to make more games in the future. The escalating costs of development will make it tougher to recoup that...
Personally, I couldn't care less - it was never on my Radar, never appealed to me, and I hated the ship combat it Assassins Creed (Black Flag, Origins, Odyssey etc) so a game based around that doesn't interest me at all. Each to their own of course and if you are 'excited' by this, maybe eventually you'll get to play it - until Ubisoft decides to close it down!
Its really not even a fun game.
Played it on two separate occasions now and its incredibly mediocre.
Singapore government got one nightmare of a contract with these guys 😂😂
The idea of a good game appeared to be there at the beginning but endless delays, multiple changes of direction and what is a mess behind the scenes means that this will probably be mediocre at best and forgotten about shortly after release, whenever that will be.
Good. That’s my reaction any time I see a game delayed. We live in an age where companies (I think devs and publishers are guilty) of pushing games out the door that simply aren’t ready. I don’t care if it takes ten more years to get it right. To all devs and pubs: take your time and give us a game that works well at launch!

@Nepp67 There’s rumors it’s because Singapore’s government gave them a LOT of money to make it there. Otherwise they would’ve binned it.
It was easy; get all the good from Sea of Thieves, give it some nice looking graphics and that'd be it! But nooo, Ubi and its m....f.... investors had other plans and, well, the rest is the history of what it could have been. Way to go Ubi?
I cant wait for it excited for this one
Canada here, Ubisoft is struggling to even get testers for this one. They only tell you the game once you show up and they’ve been cancelling playtests due to a lack people. It’s nuts, no one wants this game.
This game is going to be a disaster.
The need to just release it and do a tax write off at this point. I can't believe anyone would be silly enough to buy it unless it was £2 in a sale.
Makes me wonder why they got govt funding for this in the first place. There might be something explaining that out there somewhere. Seems like it could have been canned otherwise.
Good!!!
How many times has there been an awesome game everybody is hyped for and when it comes out it's broken beyond belief. Looking at you cyberpunk & anthem
Take your time, get it right, don't let the pursuit of profit ruin a potentially good game
It's a shame cause we barely get anything related to pirate times in media nowadays..
Well, at least they kept talented people in-house for years rather than letting them go away to other studios. Good for them i guess ?
