Update: It's been confirmed that the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption only offers the new 60fps setting when played on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
(Thanks to everyone who contacted us in order to confirm this.)
Original Story: The PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption has just received a new patch. Weighing in at only a few hundred MB, update 1.03's official description simply says "General bug fixes, stability fixes, and improvements". However, if you go ahead and boot the game up, you'll immediately notice that a 60 frames-per-second option has been added. You can also toggle it on and off in the pause menu.
It's arrived out of nowhere, but it's a welcome improvement for what has generally been regarded as a basic β and overpriced β remaster. We've taken the game for a quick test drive on PS5 via backwards compatibility, and we can confirm that it seems to run buttery smooth. Hurrah!
Having said all that, we don't know if this option is also available on base PS4 and PS4 Pro. We'll be sure to update this article once we have a clear answer.

Can anyone confirm if this 60fps option is also available on PS4? If we can get confirmation, we'll update the article!
Well, you've got my attention now.
πππ This is a game changer!
I forgot this even existed. This'll get me to at least add to my wishlist.
actually makes me want to buy the physical release which is due out soon
Better late than never, should have been there at launch though.
Finally. I may well pick it up when the physical edition releases. Itβll go nicely next to RDR2.
Some good news about this port for once. Still no rush, I'll get it when I'm ready with massive sales on it. Few years ago backlog was still big but these days it appears to have doubled in size
They cut their own branch by not adding this D1. Reputation damaged already
@Jayslow Yeah, JT seems to be more of an enhanced port than a full remaster (and is obviously miles from a remake). That being said, it seems to look a bit better than the 7th gen and the 60fps option is very welcome. I'll probably get it on a sale.
I hope this version will be on disc once it releases physically.
I was thinking about getting it on the Switch but now there's a serious reason to get the PS version.
Now we re talking
Playing the update right now, looks great and runs great. Seems like thereβs no graphical loss or anything like that. This is what should have launched, but Iβm very happy to see 60fps in this game. Itβs truly a game changer, shooting and horse back riding feel so much better now. Also, the cutscenes play at 60fps as well which is pretty neat!
So correct me if Im wrong, the remaster for part 1 gets the 60 fps treatment, but part 2 no,lol !!
@ShogunRok I checked the RDR Reddit. Looks like it's a PS5 only addition and not on PS4 consoles.
@NiallMitch14 Thanks for letting me know!
Alright, NOW I will consider buying it at some point.
And what does this patch cost? An extra Β£10? Are Rockstar going to release a 120Hz version in the future for Β£70?
Great, and I just finished it...
Okay, actually about to buy it now βΊοΈ
@hulkie the company behind remaster initiated the patch, not Rockstar games.
Not touching it unless it's less than 30 euros
That's a big move π«‘
There we go, an actual reason to get it. Should have been there from the start.
Such a bizarre move to add this so long after release but it's definitely welcome nonetheless. Really hoping 60FPS is applied to PS4/Pro myself as I'm heavily considering picking one up in the near future and would love to have RDR1 be one of the first games I get for it!
Next up: an 60 fps for RDR2 maybe?
Good, I think I'll buy this when it's discounted on psn.
@Disharmonist it's a PS3 game, I'd be very disappointed if it couldn't run at 60fps on ps5 without any graphical downgrade.
Updated with confirmation on the 60fps only being available on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
Still not gonna go and get this right away β Iβll still wait for a price drop β but Iβm very happy that this option is there when I do buy it.
Checks PS STORE β¬50. Lol no,
Just need to do rdr2 now
@tameshiyaku How can it release physically and NOT be on disc...?
Why they havenβt done this for RDR2 is beyond me. Rockstar really are imbeciles
I still don't think it's worth Β£40. Once it dips below Β£20 I'll be there
@ShogunRok MVG confirmed on Twitter itβs also available on PS4 Pro.
@Disharmonist Awesome! I came on here to ask about that. Thank you!
Regarding the comments of a possible 60fps update for RDR2.
There had been rumours of a remake or remaster.
If that's the case, Rockstar will want to maximise the profits - improving the current release would likely hit the sales of any new version.
This is stupid . UPDATE RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 SO WE GET 60 FPS ON PS5!!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU ROCKSTAR !
@Boucho11 yep I know what you mean. ITS STUPID
excellent strategy, first target the game for any super fans that will buy no matter what and when the fever is down make the update for the 60fps to convince the other gamers π. Iβll pull the trigger if gets down to 15$

I'm always so surprised to see the amount of people who allegedly will not play 30FPS games. "Oh they added support for 60FPS, I'll finally try one of the best games ever made..." To me the difference of 30 frames is not worth missing greatness for.
@Pompey71 if they already produced them pre patch it would just have the original 1.0 version, so you'd need to download the patch additionally. Currently no problem, but if PSN eventually stops supporting older consoles, you'd be stuck with 30 FPS... or of course move over to the emulation scene.
Upgraded from no sale to get it on sale.
@Thumper it costs 0.00$
Rockstar, you had my curiosity...but now you have my attention.
@RICHYD I know. I was alluding to Rockstar's greed with sarcasm. Completely lost on you obviously.
@SJR Where you have to download the 60FPS option. π€£
That makes the physical copy kinda stupid I'll wait untill it runs for β¬10 or less and get the digital release.
@RICHYD It would be rich if they ask any money for it.
"Finally, some good f*cking food."
βPatch Remastering Β£50 game claiming to be remaster drops - actually remasters game for freeβ
Fixed your title for you.
Still should have been added day one but it's much better than nothing.
Suspect they were shamed into doing this which is unfortunately the only way to get these money driven gaming companies to do the right thing.
I cant get behind this. Its a port of the ps3 game. It looks the same, plays the same from what i can make out and now it offers a 60fps option? Wow i guess that means its ok to just re-release any old game with virtually no upgrade fidelity wise, whack a 60fps option on it when everybody complains and charge a silly amount for it. Now i really dont like the term "predatory practices" but i'll make an exception in this case. For those that are enjoying this again and those players that are playing for the first time i hope you are enjoying it but i cant get over how much of a lazy cash grab this really is.
Have they fixed the low res UI yet?
That's what you get for complaining, they add it and they don't tell you. Lol! Well played
@Gator_Rican I think it's more the fact that they clearly could have released it at 60fps from the start.
Surely most people who ever wanted to play this game have already so when a port is released, it should be the best it possibly can.
For the record, I don't think that games need to be over 30fps to be worthwhile. But if it can be done, it should be done.
People seem to be willing to pay a fortune for a 360 ps3 game because it's got 60fps and it's being called a remaster for some reason....
No wonder rockstar just puts out half assed versions of games (from when they used to make games and not just gta online) as people still buy them ππ
