There's nothing like a firmware update to get your Thursday off to a good start. Sony has just pushed out a new system software update for PS5, weighing in at approximately 1.2GB. This is available to download and install now, bringing PS5's software up to version 23.02-08.20.00. So, what does it do?
Actually, more than your typical stability update. Included in this firmware update are a few small tweaks. Here are the patch notes:
- Music in the control centre is now much easier to use. With its two-column layout, you can easily browse various categories, playlists and songs.
- You can avoid unintentionally broadcasting your surroundings while broadcasting games with your PlayStation VR2.
- Go to Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2, and turn on Block See-Through View on TV to prevent the camera see-through image from being displayed on your TV while using your PSVR2.
- If you say "What's new?" via Voice Command on any screen, you can now check for new PS5 features.
- Currently, Voice Command (Preview) is only available in English for players with accounts for PlayStation Network in the US and UK.
- We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.
So, nothing monumental, but some nice usability improvements to make using PS5 just that little bit better. See anything here that'll help your PS5 experience? Let us know in the comments section below.

Downloading it now. It is an ok firmware update: stable but unremarkable.
I'm sure it's Thursday not Wednesday today
No bad words update for the messaging part? ... oh wait, that's another system
@Ajfennell77 Oops! Fixed, thanks.
My account is Italian, because you know, I live in Italy. But my first language on the account is English. I don’t understand why I can’t use the voice command preview. It’s dumb.
Cheers.
Image made me think. Sony need to patch Astrobot with the new PS5 slim, removable disk tray, the pro controller and the accessibility controller
@AndyKazama I'd prefer they make an Astro's Playroom
2 where these are included as well
@DoppiaD I'm in Ireland the only English Speaking country in Europe as a First Language. And we don't get it either.
I don’t understand the obsession with voice commands. Not just the PS5, but everything I own has them. I never use Siri. Never use the voice commands in my TV. Don’t have an Alexa. Why every electronic appliance has to have some AI assistant with voice commands is beyond me. I’m perfectly happy to click a button. Guess I’m old fashioned.
@tofuman86 context?
@AndyKazama probably with the PS6 release some day lol, then they are relics like the hardware in the current Astro game.
@Th3solution I didn’t care for voice commands until I got AirPods for iPhone and now I use them all the time! Setting timers while cooking, changing music while walking the dog, getting texts read to me and responding to them without taking my phone out my pocket. The PlayStation ones I had to turn off though because whenever I said the word “PlayStation” while in a party it started listening to me and interrupted games….very annoying.
Happy with better music controls on this update though!
Still no voice command in Canada.
When we are gonna get a PS Stars integration in the console itself? that would be great
Hey, at least we got notes for a minor patch for a change, nothing monumental but very welcome.
Anything is better than :
"improves performance and stability".
Themes! Folders! Still nothing!
C'mon Sony, we need themes so we can have snowy backgrounds for Christmas like the 2019 PS4 theme.
Is the PS5 going to have Internet browsing app soon.
I like that I can finally check for updates on games not in the top 10.
would be great if they gave us folders
I was wobbling all over the place until I got this stability update and after uploading I immediately grabbed my 80ft balancing pole and am currently walking on a tightrope like a boss 😎. All praise stability updates 🙏
@IREWolfman Europe and the EU aren't the same thing. The UK isn't suddenly part of a different continent, you know. 😆
