Lords of the Fallen, the fairly well-reviewed Souls-like that launched just over a week ago on PS5 and other platforms, has sold more than 1 million copies. Not a bad result at all considering how busy the recent release schedule has been, plus the fact that it feels as though the Souls-like genre is teetering on the edge of oversaturation (Lies of P hit just last month, remember).
As mentioned, Lords of the Fallen was met with mostly positive reviews from critics, and the player reception has been quite positive as well. We gave the action RPG a solid 7/10 in our Lords of the Fallen PS5 review, praising its dual-world system as something that feels genuinely innovative within the confines of the genre.
Publisher CI Games and developer Hexworks are also taking this opportunity to remind everyone that a major update is incoming. Set to drop on the 26th October, the patch will enable cross-play functionality between console and PC players.
Have you snagged Lords of the Fallen? What do you think of it? Always remember to dodge roll in the comments section below.

Yessssssss!!!! Absolutely awesome happy for the devs and glad I supported the game day 1, it is a very unique soulslike, with fresh new-gen paint.
Well deserved, it's an awesome game.
Oh wow. On my list, just not had time to play it
No idea how so many people enjoyed this game, but good for them and the devs. They worked hard on it, but after finishing it and going through about half of it again on NG+. I stand by my opinion that, I hate this game, but despite the still lingering performance issues (especially on Xbox) a lot of passion and talent went into this game!
Wish I even just barely liked it, but it does look like it's being patched and a lot of my issues with it are being addressed. Most notably enemy density! The game literally turns into Dynasty Warriors, but you take 4 hits at the end. I ran through everything. Really not fun at all.
Saw the news yesterday that their stock has fallen due to this not selling well. Which one is true? One million sale for this type of game is good.
@mrbone I think the stock fell due to lukewarm reviews and the performance issues, but sales were not yet calculated.
@Constable_What I definitely agree with this as a negative, although it does not ruin the game for me or make me hate it, it can definitely be frustrating. I am having a lot of fun with it but admittedly have not played as much as you so hopefully the fun continues
@Constable_What Yeah I just finished NG++ and I absolutely LOATHED playing this game! Very unfun experience would not recommend!
@gipsojo @Constable_What this is not meant as an insult to either of you but why would you complete two full playthroughs of a game you hated?
I am still trying to get into it I LOVE souls games and I hope that this lantern mechanic clicks with me.
Lies of P was much "friendlier" or simpler
@Logonogo Because I really wanted to like it, and I bought it. And for a lot of Souls-like games I usually say I hate this game at least 4 or 5 times, but it's usually just in the moment. In Lords of the Fallen, it's like...yeah I hate this game Umbral Realm is annoying and unfun, enemy density is way too much, enemies follow you to the ends of the earth, the bosses kinda suck, and the level design is confusing with a lot of pointless checkpoints.
I'm probably gonna give it another shot just because it had a new update that addresses most of my concerns too.
The final area. REALLY sucks. It's designed to be played in co-op I feel, or just designed to be ran through. I think they fixed it in regular new game, and they've even added a setting to NG+ where you can just play the game over again without the game being harder. Which is fantastic for completing your quests. When the devs take time to incorporate feedback into a game, and feedback that they didn't seem to want to take either at that, it makes me root for them as well.
@gipsojo I don't want to get you back into it as you have paid your dues, but the updates seem promising lol
Well i'm really enjoying this game. It looks and sounds awesome. I love the combat and i really like the umbral lantern. I'm not sure which i like most between this and lies of p because both games are fantastic and both have a lot going for them.
Lies of P has been a better take on the soulslike formula, this game feels unfinished, so many frame drops on console and the final boss was underwhelming to say the least.
Cool.both lies of p and lords of the fallen are excellent games.word up son
@EchoRange It's a bold move to have Deacons of the Deep as the most common final boss.
@playstation1995 For real
got both Lords of the Fallen and Lies of P.
but didn't get to any of them, as I play Baldur's Gate 3 and MK1 for the last 1,5 months)))
Is this better than Lies of P? because this is one of the game of the year nominees but P didn't make the cut.
I'm glad to see this game do well. It seemed some of the biggest criticisms were about performance and issues that might be patched. While i'd rather games launched in a better state, it would be sad to see games and studios fail because of it even more.
@MrMagic According to most critics, no, Lies of P is better. But you may feel differently.
@themightyant Then I wonder why it didn't make the cut, but anyway I'll get around to it eventually there's just too many games to get through at the moment.
@MrMagic I think you are talking about the Golden Joysticks Ultimate GOTY award right. It's just one list from one award. Everyone has a different shortlist.
@themightyant Yep, I was talking about the golden joystick awards and I'm sure I'll get around to playing them both anyway, once I find the time, that is.
@Constable_What I'll probably go back for one more playthrough
@gipsojo I think with the updates, it's actually...pretty good now! Performance is so much better, enemies don't mob you like you owe them money, vestiges stick around longer, and those stupid witches can't hit from behind walls from a mile away anymore along with tweaks to ranged enemies being overly aggressive, it feels challenging still but not tedious and messy. Like you can use more than one strategy for encounters now instead of either:
Running past absolutely everything.
Or
Running past absolutely everything killing the ranged enemies, and then abusing the roll to get yourself back in position.
It feels like you can slowly progress now and participate in a battle of attrition without repeatedly getting shot in the face by AK47s.
