HoYoverse’s gacha gaming sensation Honkai: Star Rail has been played by over one million players on PS5, which means it’s rewards time for faithful fans. Free-to-play forays like this can generally manipulate their most engaged users with the lure of in-game currency, and if you create an account in the turn-based RPG before 24th November and reach at least Trailblaze Level 4, you’ll be eligible for 200 Stellar Jade. The currency will be delivered in-game.
Furthermore, if a post on the developer’s proprietary social network HoYoLAB can attract 10,000 comments, a further 180 Stellar Jade will be dished out to everyone. For those of you perhaps not fully familiar with the game, Stellar Jade can be spent on banners, and thus used to unlock limited time characters. It’s comfortably the most sought-after currency in the game, and the one that you can also purchase with real money if you choose.
One million PS5 players is obviously a huge success, considering the title only launched a little over a month ago on Sony’s system. The game’s next big update is sure to attract even more players, too, with its release date pegged for 15th November, so these extra Stellar Jade should come in handy if you’re planning to pull for Huohuo or Argenti.

But I thought nobody wanted these types of games? 🤣
I do want Argenti but don't think I've got enough jades to get his signature light cone. Great to see this game doing well on ps5 also. hopefully with all the extra cash they're raking in they can get more staff and release more content sooner.
Gatcha aside the game is really nice and it's absolutely gorgeous.
@Titntin 65 million monthly players in Genshin another 25 million, and counting, monthly players in Honkai SR. It's clear NOBODY wanted these types of games 🤣
Obviously being cross-(most)-platforms, especially on mobile and PC is a massive boost. I wonder if any of Sony's Live Services plan to do the same. That is really where the insane numbers come from.
@themightyant I'd be very surprised if the games were not also being developed for PC in addition to the PS versions.
Larger audience = more chance of success. I'm not so sure if they will look to the mobile market though, I'm not sure they have a vision of operating in that space..
I surprisingly have really gotten into this game. Do I wish it wasn't a gacha game? Yes but at the very least they do a good job of making it not feel like they are constantly reaching for my wallet. It's fun and has a heck of a lot of charm to it!
It was a good move on mihoyo to bring HSR to the PS5. I've been having a lot of fun playing it that I even decided to buy the battle pass (Nameless Honor) and the monthly pass.
Lol 200 jade. At least make it a 10 pull
The more I play this, the more fun I'm having. It didn't click with me at first but now I just can't wait to get back on to grind jade for characters. It's crazy how much Genshin and Honkai have to offer for being F2P
@Titntin PC almost a certainty. Mobile i'm less convinced, but if Sony are REALLY interested in their live services being a big hit I think that is worth considering.
But it has to be designed from the ground up. Obviously you need the right tools and engine, but these MiHiYo games scale beautifully from Mobile to PS5 and PC on Unity. It's not like people can accuse them of 'holding back' next gen when they look and play this well.
I think this is the future for a lot of games honestly. Play anywhere
@themightyant Id agree completely, except Sony want to push hardware, and you dont encourage such sales by putting your games on mobile.
I have to also accept, Im an old git now and would rather sit on a cactus than play another mobile game! 😂
5 years addicted to summoners war put paid to my gatcha habits!
@Titntin I kinda agree, but then why PC? Plus I don't think mobile is a strongly competing market. Yes it's still gaming and competing for our time, but compared to the other options I think it's a good fit.
It's also a smart way to signpost mobile players to PlayStation from mobile. "Oh you liked the Horizon MMO maybe you'd like Zero Dawn."
I wasn't going to play Honkai Star Rail after Genshin sucked me in - i've actually deleted it twice without playing it - but I think i'm going to dive in this weekend. I don't need all the characters, constellations, signature weapons etc. But I do enjoy the stories, team building and min-maxing what I do have. I've heard it's less of a timesink than Genshin, but time will tell.
I actually got Seele yesterday but doubtful I'll get her lightcone in time before it leaves. I really enjoy the game but it's just finding the time to play it.
I'll never understand the pull of these games, but, hey, glad it's a success.
@themightyant They already have a policy to release on PC, and as we agreed, you need numbers to help make these titles last and keep them going. I don't think they see the PC releases as eating into their HW sales, and I'd agree.
I used to think I was weird as I far prefer to play on console than PC, but I've now met many more players like me. I have a stupidly fast PC that can play just about anything, but its normally used for web browsing while I should be working, like now! I use PC for games where Mouse/keyboard is essential, and that's almost it. The 3090 gets a work out when I render out some videos or do AI upscaling etc, but rarely for games. Why would you want to sit near a noisy heater? Sink into a sofa, click the start button and be playing in 30 seconds with a game fully optimised for your specific hardware - cant beat it!
@Titntin Same boat. Even though I don't have a beefy PC right now I am in the process of planning a new build and carefully planning my specs. I don't need a beast for work, and the reality is I just prefer playing on console right now.
I expect towards the end of the generation when more games are struggling to hit 60 on console and pushing new features on PC that are a generational leap I might be more interested but not right now.
Steam Deck however is a godsend. I just sold mine this morning for £70 less than I paid, but only because I want the OLED model and wanted to cash in while price is still high. It's an incredible piece of hardware, including for PS5 streaming.
@themightyant Nice - I'd like to play with a steam deck. I've had GP for too long though so my steam library is pathetic! That OLED version looks dope!
Because of my stupid stance on ABK employees (specifically their ill treatment), and my disappointment in the 'big' game releases, I'm letting my GP sub lapse tomorrow, so maybe I'll be getting more steam games now. I'd love to persuade the wife we need one
Maybe I'll sell the Series X and use the money towards one, as all my 3rd party titles are played on PS, so without GP the X is just a dark brick. I can always buy another if they ever deliver on the promises...
Is there a way on this site so i could block anything manga related from showing?
@Tr3mm0r
ya... it's called "Don't click and make a comment". If you don't want to engage in something...here is a novel idea...ignore it.
@Tr3mm0r Lmao, this isn't manga. Do you even know what manga is???
@Athrum Wait a minute. You think this is gorgeous? But not the legend of hero games? This game has npcs with clothing looking like it was tattooed on them.
@Tr3mm0r It's PushSquare buddy, not YouTube or X.
A major positive here is that it shows the rest of the gaming industry that there IS a demand for traditional turn based RPGs, not just all these action RPGs that have been sprouting up lately. This is a very fun game with a lot of polish and I definitely enjoy it more than what Genshin offered.
