Sony has announced that, starting on the 5th December, select Crunchyroll shows will be added to Sony Pictures Core — the movie-based service that PS Plus Premium subscribers have access to. For those who might now know, signing up to the most expensive PS Plus tier gets you access to a fairly sizeable catalog of films at no extra cost — and now some Crunchyroll anime is being thrown into the deal.
However, there is a catch in that this perk won't be available to everyone right away. At launch, only subscribers in U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand will be able to check out the added Crunchyroll stuff. Sony says "additional regions will launch at a later date".
We don't yet know which shows will be added to the Sony Pictures Core catalog, but the official announcement highlights Eighty Six, Iruma-kun, and To Your Eternity.
Will you be making use of this PS Plus Premium perk? Would you like to see Crunchyroll as a whole be added to PS Plus at some point? Weigh up this new deal in the comments section below.

I think if there's a lot of interest/viewers for these select shows then yeah I can see them adding the whole catalogue at some point or premium get free membership to Crunchyroll seperately. I'm just glad to see Anime slowly becoming more and more mainstream and getting more recognition.
I was expecting Crunchyroll to come to PS Plus. Some thought Sony Pictures content would come instead. It turns out, we get a mix of both. Very cool.
So many users (including me) will get less content for the same price, until further notice. Not nice.
I actually didn’t know I had access to that lol.
Dang, have crunchyroll and would have been perfect if it was bundled in with premium. Would instantly lock in for years lol
It's a start. For the price of premium, crunchyroll should be part of the sub.
I’ve watched a few movies on the Pictures Core app. Everything works nicely, but the 100 movies do kind of start to look repetitive quickly.
Some anime shows added can only be a good thing. Hopefully they continue to increase the watchable content for Premium users. They need to keep sweetening the deal to justify the highest tier.
Depending on what animes they add this could be pretty nice.
If it’s anything like the core lineup I’m not expecting much. Adding crap 💩 onto the pile of crap 💩 just makes the pile of crap 💩 larger and smellier 🤣
@ATaco
You’re like me and mostly watch classic anime then crunchyroll is pretty much useless. It’s why I didn’t keep it long. Most of what I like are OVAs and films from the 80s and 90s. There is a severe lack of that kind of content on Crunchy Roll.
select shows only? premium subs only? yea sony isn't even trying anymore.
@OrtadragoonX
That would be a shame if true. Though if the movie offerings are any indication we'll probably only get shows that nobody was watching anyways, Sony desperately trying to get value out of licenses they purchased that nobody cares about.
Hoping they add dragon ball dubbed
@OrtadragoonX Maybe look into RetroCrush then?
@DeepSpace5D I hate the App it's a mess im a payed member but I think I'm going to stop my sub and wait for a better deal.
This seems more like a paid CR as than a service addition.
Crunchyroll is $8 u don't need sony pictures core or ps plus premium
Crunchroll apps (TV and mobile) really near to be revamped.
I really don't want movies and anime to be rolled into PS+ it would only mean a STEEP price hike. I'd prefer they stay separate but have reduced fees for those who subscribe to more than one service.
@Flaming_Kaiser You hate the Sony Pictures Core app specifically?
I didn’t have any issues while using it, but I’m curious, what do you hate about it?
@DeepSpace5D It's to expensive for what it is and how they sort series on the APP is a crime it's so messy and unorganised. And I see read it wrong I meant the Crunchy app you were talking about the new Playstation movie app my apologies.
@Flaming_Kaiser
Ah ok, you meant Crunchyroll. Is it really expensive? I think it’s $7.99 per month for no ads? Or $79.99 for the year if you do a 1-time payment. That comes out to $6.66 per month. Seems pretty reasonable for the amount of anime offered.
I personally am using Funimation at the moment because last I checked Crunchyroll didn’t have some of the older shows that I wanted to watch such as Dragon Ball and Mushi-Shi.
So delayed and not a 'only some regions' like PS3 streaming (I get servers and licensing and other factors for sure or just internet connection speeds aren't there). If it's just taking time that's totally understandable they can take their time to roll it out for each region.
It's a fair bonus but even then not that interested. If it's particular shows sure, still need a CR sub/membership I assume? So PS+ or not is it like the Neflix on 360 and Xbox Live Gold again? The 2 subs needed? Or is it the CR free trial or what? Or no?
I'm just not fussed enough even if I have family with access to the services with PS+ Deluxe there is a 'start' for more than Sony content in the future but due to the way it's handled of Vue, the PS4 branding one I don't even know I assume just movies/TV shows in their own bubble? To Core. Not only is it unclear how they will go with success with it. Even if streaming then individual season/film purchases as a difference. Or whatever rental or bonus of the PS+ sub or whatever.
It's just awkward and also don't care for any of the content on there or most western movie/tv show content that much these days. May be the odd I'd watch with others, but I'm not desperate/planning to go out of my way to see it. Games sure 100% times more, tv/movies nah. I don't even buy physical western tv/movies, why would I streaming either.
Honestly I buy my anime physical so eh. Any Crunchyroll anime that have been out recently or prior I've got or don't care/they aren't available but I'm not fussed. RIP Madman dying and now Crunchyroll takes over of those licenses/IPs in my region instead and it took till this year for them to get their subtitles on dubbed audio. Like why? Why the online approach of sub and dub but the dub audio channel/subtitles couldn't for years? Whether the CR/Funi collab or even after that. The last release that had that came out in around August/September 2023 for me. That show I checked the settings and went FINALLY.
Any licensor/DVD and Blu-ray menu team could get that working as a basic expected feature but no it took that long till this year to do that. It's hilarious their releases are just bad I care for the IP then their quality of releases and prefer others releases more. Even then while bonus features aren't much in some releases these days still sucks.
@DeepSpace5D It's 9,99 with no ads. Some of my favorite series are in French only or German. It's not really well organised plus I find the series I really like gone or seasons are removed I think I have to stop my subscription.
@j2c indeed. The titles available through premium were not as good as through free services like Tubi, youtube, Freevee, etc.
@DeepSpace5D NY biggest issue is really how messy it is. Sometimes it's even hard to look up what it is my biggest issue is that they don't have all seasons is something as basic as a English language.
@Flaming_Kaiser
Yeah I agree with you on some points. It’s why I dropped it for now myself, because it doesn’t have the best catalog of the older titles. I think it’s good for newer and ongoing shows if you want to stay updated with the latest episode soon after it airs.
The language options were never something I realized because I watch everything in Japanese with English subs.
If Crunchyroll was fully included in PS Premium then I would upgrade since Crunchyroll is my go-to service for anime streaming.
@DeepSpace5D Japanese is awsome don't get me wrong but sometimes I feel lazy and I just want to watch in English. Plus with some series it really makes it hard to follow when everything is so messy. Or series that remove seasons I loved one Punch man just to watch. I don't like to buy movies or series physically but if you want to keep watching them with all these streaming services..... 😐
