God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla is an unfortunate amalgamation of Norse words. However, the incoming free DLC (out today, 12th December) looks like a delicious second helping for fans of Sony Santa Monica's most recent release. We learned that Valhalla would serve as an epilogue to Kratos's story, and now we have a trailer showing it in randomly generated action.
Valhalla will allow the developers to explore an aspect of Norse mythology not addressed in the rebooted God of War franchise, and it's doing so by reimagining the gameplay into a roguelike adventure of personal discovery. More combat is never a bad thing, considering how satisfying the systems in place are, and never-before-seen enemy groupings and a "few surprises" were teased. Likely learning a few lessons from Hades, the idea of repeat playthroughs is sweetened by the tantalising prospect of additional story beats.
Will you try your luck in God of War Ragnarok's free Valhalla DLC? While away the time until the end of all things in the comments section below.

It's tough to want to re-download this game for a free dlc drop as we are so used to free meaning bare bones phoned in content. Even more tough for me with it being a completely seperate rogue like mode. A mode that is played out and myself and many others don't love. As it is meant to stretch out less content.
That being said, it would be a welcome departure from the norm, especially for present day PS studios, if this turned out to be refreshing and awesome.
I will wait to hear how it is before initiating that dl again. As I suspect many will. If it turns out to be something special, Kudos to making it free!
I'll download the dlc when I get home from work this evening. There are a few games I installed again to try out on my new TV and ragnarok was one of them so it will give me an excuse to play it.
I'm not a huge rogue like fan however I am a massive Kratos fan. Also can't complain with free dlc of this calibur, especially nowadays.
I'll be giving it a go for the story once I've finished up what I'm playing at the moment 👍
i wonder, who's the combat companion?
Freya?
there has to be someone due to how the combat mechanics work.
Wow, this is great! I'll be trying this out for sure (and probably fail hard at it )
I’m actually pleasantly surprised they went with the roguelike for this DLC. It’s something fresher than just giving us more of the same. I’m all for it. Don’t know when I’ll play it but I will get to it 😎😎
Busy atm so can't really start yet. Just wondering does it require the whole Raganrok game to be installed or do I just pop in the Ragnarok disc to get the free Valhalla download option appear. Has to have a dozen new Valhalla trophies to have go at right, would be so weird without new ones. Only being announced the other day, info online is a bit sparse
@Blacksmith1985 They are marketing it as "a personal journey", so I think Kratos will be alone. Mimir will be there, but no combat partner.
@freddquadros but maybe Freya is also a part of this, you know, personal journey.
@Blacksmith1985 Well, Kratos deserves a good "rest", for sure...
But the trailer only depicts him alone...
I really very strongly dislike roguelike games but love God of War. So, the prospect of getting some additional story beats via the DLC would be very appealing if it were any genre other than roguelike. I’m sure I’ll play it once or twice to see if it surprises me (for example: Returnal was a roguelike, but I really enjoyed it because it was structured in such a way as to minimize most of the things that annoy me about the genre). If not, I’m sure I’ll get annoyed with it quickly and just read the spoilers to get the story…
If they could make it it's own separate download id try it today.
But I can't be bothered to download the whole game again at the moment lol
