Intense but unconfirmed speculation suggests Insomniac may be working on a Spider-Verse game, influenced by Sony’s recent batch of animated movies. Unverified information being shared online, purportedly part of a recent high-profile data breach, alleges that the title is in development – although we’ve been unable to corroborate anything, and the information is extremely loose.
We know that the Spider-Man from Insomniac’s titles has appeared in the movies, and therefore is connected to the overarching Spider-Verse universe. Without getting too deep into spoilers, there are also references to the likes of Spider-Man 2099 in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. None of this confirms anything, of course, and this does largely feel like fan theorising right now.
We know Insomniac is working on a multiplayer game, and one common theory we’ve seen shared online is that this could be some kind of Spider-Verse-style title, where everyone assumes a different Spider-Man in the game. While we like the overall idea, it’s merely speculation, and there’s nothing from these so-called leaks to suggest that’s the case.
So, there’s a lot of talk taking place, with very little evidence. Obviously, the outstanding sales numbers of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 suggest Insomniac won’t be leaving the series behind. In addition to New Game+ in the New Year, we suspect there’ll be DLC – and potentially even another spin-off, like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Spider-Verse, though? We’re going to need more evidence.

That would be kool but probably a pain in the ass to animate
This version of Spider-Man is so much more exciting than the 'realistic' one. I'd definitely play that.
@Drago201 nah, they already included a nice movie effect for the characters in the games, I’m sure they can take it to the next level.
I was happy with Spiderman 1 and 2 by Insomniac and fine with Wolverine but so far Insomniac has just become a Marvel developer which I find kind of sad.
@lexveem It made me think my PS5 was on the fritz. Almost felt like playing a pc game on ultra when your pc can barely play it on medium. I put it back to normal and i was like oh must just be the 24fps cinematic mode.
@Nepp67 Not really. They went from Ratchet and Clank PS4 reboot to Spiderman to Stormland to Miles Morales to Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart to Spiderman 2. Pretty even and steady. They are huge now and likely have different games in development at once. And the best part is, they are mostly single player platformer games the 3d and hd era has come to love.
If it does I hope I can play as Jessica Drew. Motorcycle Spiderwoman sounds amazing for gameplay. Actually they can bring out a ton of the spider totems that get overlooked gaming wise....Silk, Julia Carpenter (I'd like her pre Madame Webb), Spiderling, Exiles MJ, BRING BACK MAYDAY Parker...there are a lot of Spider people to pull from.
@Yaycandy I mean fair but I would like to see Insomniac work on something new that isnt a sequel or something based off of the marvel brand.
Insomniac turning into a Marvel only studio is one of my biggest fears honestly. But I guess it's unstoppable at this point.
Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
Miles Morales is Miles Morales.
Spider-Gwen is Spider-Gwen.
And so forth, and so forth.
There is only one true Spider-Man. As long as these games remember this i'm cool, but if the rumours about Spider-Man 3 are to be believed then that's me done.
I wonder if they will ever do a SpiderGwen game, or make this game with three playable protagonists.
@Nepp67 They write better Marvel stories than Disney can, they will sell. Other Marvel games never sold well. Not even sure if Wolverine will unless it has some paradigm shifting gameplay. Spiderman has always just been the go to for Marvel along with Batman for DC. You can see how the recent Marvel games have flopped big time. Maybe Ironman will do well.
@Drago201 not necessarily, there are filters for that
@LifeGirl not really, or maybe in your head canon, but If you read the comics they have all been known as Spider-man at some point. Like other super heroes the name is more a title than a person and many have worn the mantle. I agree Pete is the most well known and the first we think of, but definitely not the only Spider-man
It is not speculation but from those leaks we saw the other day. Not really fair for anyone to find out this way if it's true
I'm in the minority that actually didn't really enjoy Spiderverse much so I'd pass if this turned out to be true. I'd much rather get a new Resistance game if Insomniac wants to do something multiplayer related.
@LifeGirl nooope.
@Yaycandy I expect Wolverine to sell well because it will get a lot of hype from Sony and Sony fans who know and trust Insomniac. Initial sales are incredibly important for a game's success. Then word of mouth will help it keep selling for a while. That is unless Insomniac somehow fail to deliver.
I'd rather get that than Miles being the protag of SM3.
Pete sharing playtime with him an MJ was the lowest point of SM2, despite the game being the best, if not one of the best, SM game ever made.
Wasn't Pixelopus rumoured to be working on a into the spiderverse game before they shut down?
This could be fun. Also a way to throw a bone to the people upset that spiderman 2 wasn't co-op despite Insomniac numerous times stating it was single player only.
@naruball Oh, must be true then.
@The_Great_WmR yes, they were rumoured to be working with Sony Pictures Animation. So not so much confirming a Spider-Verse game but could have been.
@LifeGirl
@LifeGirl You haven't read the comics in a REALLY long time huh? MJ has even been Spiderwoman (with no powered Peter Parker) a few times. I know you miss 1962, but things have changed...a lot. Granted if you are stuck in the 60's it does mean you didn't have to read Pete sell his marriage to Mephisto (and his Daughter as she was going to be Mephisto's downfall) because he just can't let Aunt May stay dead...again.
Actually I'd pay to see Charlotte Morales-Stacy (Spider-Girl) show up just so Miles can freak out that he and Gwen have kids.
