Gran Turismo Sport has been delisted from the PlayStation Store, but it seems a little ahead of schedule. Polyphony Digital's PS4 exclusive was set to get the chequered flag for its online component at the end of January, after a slow sunsetting of DLC starting in December, offline modes remaining playable.
This was announced back in September, but if you check today, the game has been removed entirely from Sony's digital storefront. Players who previously purchased Gran Turismo Sport will still be able to access the game, of course, and redownload it if necessary, but anyone looking to pick up the 2017 title now will need to join the race for a physical copy.
What do you think happened here? Was this just a scheduling snafu on Sony's end? How do you feel about GT Sport, and do you own a copy for posterity? Race into the comments section below.

I’ve not played it, but it seems like the game is basically a glorified demo without the online component, so it makes sense for it to be delisted.
Gran Turismo 7 will suffer this exact same fate a few years down the line. This is what you signed up for when you choose to accept always online games.
Damn.. now I'm gonna think about getting GT7 until it gets delisted as well..
I'm sure we'll see GT sport back someday in an unofficial capacity if it truly was a beloved game that people actually want to go back to.
Not like there is much to do in the game.
Did they ever patch the online requirement for saving? At the very least they could fix that before the shut down.
Awful game, thankfully they did redeem themselves with GT7
@truerbluer It only seem to ever be Sony that are quick to shut games down… Everyone else usually keep their servers up. You can still play the OG MW2 online…
Never got on with this and always ended up going back to drive club. Drive club was just sublime to play and the online community was one of the best I've ever been part of. Shame on Sony for deserting drive club and evolution studios...
@Northern_munkey If they make a 60FPS and re-release it that would be great.
@PixelDragon “Plenty of games from other publishers have had their servers shut down and games delisted”
Yes. Other publishers shut down games and servers. But my comment was about how quickly servers are taken offline. GT sport only just released in 2017… It taken the crew 1 10+ years finally be taken offline and delisted. You can’t buy FH3, but the servers are still very much online… I mean look at how quick Sony put LB3 out to pasture. The only time games are this quick to shut down servers is if it was flop.
@truerbluer While that is an issue, it's more likely this is related to the licensing of cars.
To my big surprise, I've hardly noticed any significant difference between GTSport running on a PS5 and the PS4 version of GT7 (also running on PS5) for which I got a key with my PS5 disc copy. Lets all hope major studios wont start recycling / rebranding their IP released ages ago for full prices in the future...oh, naive me, right?
I was never a big fan of GT Sport given its primarily online focus, though its served its purpose well in laying the groundwork for GT7.
That said, I do believe Sony put these out to pasture far too soon, between this and Driveclub and the servers for games like Gravity Rush 2
I played a ton of Sport and really loved it. Realistically, I can't think any 'good' reason to buy GT Sport over GT7 though. It's better in every way.
That said, in an ideal world it would have just gotten a patch to remove all online functionality and allow offline mode to work. When it's GT7's time to die, I really hope they take this approach.
Didn't they say the servers go offline at the end of the month? As far as I'm aware the servers are still up. They never said they'd let you keep buying it until the server goes offline. It makes sense to de-list now. Rather than have people unknowingly continue to buy it and then get upset when they can't go online with it.
Will a cup of Apple and Blackcurrant/water. Never was a fan of this business practice but GT7 and Forza Motorsport offline are worse. But yeah it's Jan 30 or 31st they go offline. Or you can stop your internet and see how it will be a month early. I did last year and it was clear how much is accessible offline. A fair amount. No saving. But still playable half the game. Half as in the licenses/driving missions have more events not accessible only the first half of them are offline. That's all your missing out on. It's not arcade mode only and no saving from those. Cough Cough GT7.
I am playing whatever I can of GT Sport before the servers go and I keep it as a reminder or replay 1-6 more because no issues and don't care I missed out on the 5 & 6 online events at all when the rest of the career mode/other modes are there and I have other old racing games to research and play instead or other modern racing games without an internet connection and save file editing/server withholding nonsense in them.
So a raspberry to GT7/Forza Motorsport.
I knew about the servers going offline announcement a while ago and moved it over from my external hard drive to the console for last month and this month to put effort into it before the brand central goes. (I had to make remove and beat Diofield, beat No Straight Roads and others last month).
Sport mode/online I don't care for, but brand central going is annoying for progression.
Even trying GT Sport without internet aka the firmware update, aka PSN goes down if you don't update so thanks Sony for me to be able to test that last year/months ago and it was interesting seeing what progression you have and how much is available offline and how far no saving goes. It's good but not great.
Let alone licenses/driving missions if someone can't get far enough into the game to unlock the rest due to lacking a server save. There's where GT Sport is unbalanced. It's still more than GT7 arcade mode/music rally only but still it is an issue with the game if you don't get far enough in to access the other half of those modes content especially as some of them are really hard blocking you from achieving that. Especially the many laps ones that feels like a mini endurance event it's just bad.
I know what modes are still active (it's better than GT7 that's for sure offline) but at the same time the grind to get to access all modes is bad.
I am far enough along but I looked over what cars I need to access all career mode events offline (already done the licenses, experience and driving challenges so it's the remaining career mode events) and at least 1 of the 20 mill cred historic cars and the Merc Benz F1 at 2 mill are left.
I don't care to grind for the 20 mill ones just the other.
The lap counts are a bit ridiculous, the AI cheat no matter if base stats, the tuning 1-3, or 1-5 level scaling, whatever tweaks, I just can't win later game events or even the high level arcade mode AI because they cheat. The games always had this problem but even if I don't like the handling mode, I know right someone not liking a realistic/simcade physics model no way. Yeah I don't like it and I can't compete with silly AI. Are they more expressive like GT5+ of noticing you on the track yes but sometimes as bad as GT3 and stubborn and speed up a lot out of nowhere just not from the pits I mean literally even short lap events they cheat.
@Flaming_Kaiser absolutely agree but I've got to be honest because even though drive club was is 30fps even on the ps5 it was not really noticeable and is still a joy to play. It's never going to get a ps5 upgrade and is just another massive fail from Sony that we the gamers have to weather.
@Northern_munkey I loved the game and even on 30 FPS it had a fantastic feel to it. I think the botched online release was what really did hurt them the game was fantastic.
The reason Gran Turismo is an online only game is to stop cheating on the leaderboards. And anyway, who’s ps5 ISNT connected to the internet 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
@AverageGamer Sony are not the only one quick to shut down servers.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/10/3ds-and-wii-u-online-play-ends-in-early-april-2024
Yeah, it’s not exactly the same issue… it’s arguably worse, since the Switch can’t play 3DS or Wii U games, and the ports that have happened ended up being changed just enough for there to be a noticeable difference (and, likewise, making it worth playing the originals over the ports) in most cases.
@AccessibleDaydream Yeah. That a much worse since it related to game preservation. But I’m not talking about game preservation. I’m talking a game getting shut down that barely 7 years old on a platform that still sees millions of active players daily.
@AverageGamer Yes, I understand. And to that, I say we’re reaching the same conclusion. It’s not very great either way that the penny-pinching from the top down is as drastic as it is, but it seems destined to happen regardless since everyone involved is just chasing profits.
