Long gone are the dark days when fans had to lobby PlayStation to help SEGA localise the Yakuza games: this franchise has quietly matured into a bit of a cult hit. You won’t find Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth locking horns with Call of Duty at the top of the sales charts, but by all accounts, the latest entry is enjoying an enormous opening weekend.
For example, in an interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer, director Masayoshi Yokoyama revealed: “Nowadays, there are both physical and digital versions, so it is difficult to compare the numbers with past titles, but in terms of the number of pre-orders for the physical copy, it is the highest in the series’ history.”
And while we’ll need Famitsu’s official sales data to determine exactly what those figures look like, the title has been enjoying a record-breaking start on PC gaming platform Steam, with total concurrent players at one point topping 46,161 – a series high. Obviously, we’ll need to await more information specifically about the PS5 and PS4 versions, but it looks like the title is off to a strong start.

Well deserved. Put about 15 hours in and loving it so far. Only minor complaints being Kiryu's English VA and the constant impatient dialogue from companions in battle (even when it's not my turn).
Meanwhile Palworld had over two million concurrent players on Steam. What is wrong with gamers?
I finished Cyberpunk yesterday and put about 3 hours into Infinite Wealth already and I love it. I loved 7 and I knew I would love 8.
I’d have likely bought it as I’m a big fan, but still waiting to play Gaiden first. For which I’m waiting for a sale because I refuse to pay so much for a digital game. If they released that physically I may well have bought both by now.
I can wait though, not like there isn’t loads more games to play.
@Stevemalkpus Well the fact that it rips off a hugely popular IP gave it a notoriety boost. We'll see if it has sticking power.
Its a great game and the combat is far better than in LaD. I still miss the neon lit streets of Kamurocho tho, far better than the Yokohama district of LaD that i didnt really gel with. I knew Kamurocho like it was home tho. Hawaii seems pretty cool so far.
@thefourfoldroot1 it was on sale during december. I got it for 37 euros and let me tell you... it was worth it. It's my favorite kiryu game alongside yakuza 0.
@Stevemalkpus sales never equaled quality. That's all there is to it.
The mini games are as fun as ever. Playing Gaiden just before this reminds me how I prefer the action combat to turn based. (Don't get me wrong, I still like turn based LAD).
15 hours in, no complaints os far.
Even it is only temporary it's still crazy to see this series in the top 3 considering where it came from. I'm so happy to see it too. I got 18 hours into Infinite Wealth and it is definitely a major step up from Yakuza Like a Dragon. The combat feels better, progression feels smoother, and just like always RGG continues to show how they got the best writers in the business. Great stuff.
N.i.c.e. like a dragon infinite wealth is a excellent game.word up son
That's a yummy looking burger! 😋
@Stevemalkpus what? I don't get it? Popular thing automatically bad? Is that it?
@thefourfoldroot1 or, now hear me out, or you could just get over it and play the game.
@DestructionAllstars
Why? I have loads of games to play. Their decision to only launch a digital version that can’t be lent or traded is a financial one, just like my decision to wait until it’s on sale because I can’t sell or trade.
@thefourfoldroot1 check out bazaar-bazaar.com buddy. You can buy the import version there and it works fine.
Not surprised. I was hooked right from the start.
Been playing it way more than I should be during a work week... but so hard to put down.
