Some of early 2024's heavy-hitting new releases are launching, and as expected, they're making a decent impact on the UK's physical games chart. While first and second place seem to be perennially occupied by Hogwarts Legacy and EA Sports FC 24, The Last of Us: Part II Remastered takes a jolly good swing, making its debut in third place. Not a bad result for a single-format re-release.
It beats out Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown for that result, leaving Ubisoft's great Metroidvania revival in fourth. This pair of new games knocks Mortal Kombat 1 from third to fifth, while Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is also down, moving from fourth to eighth. Elsewhere, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 slips into seventh, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga jumps to lightspeed, moving from 34th all the way up to ninth place.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical games only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 20th January, 2024

- Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

I'm still hooked on No Return Mode. I never understood people not liking the combat in TLOU especially in part 2? Having a mode that I jump in for a few minutes or a few hours is great.
I’ll stick to the ps4 version until the inevitable part 2 remake is released lol
Can’t wait for Suicide Squad to top the charts over the 2 other better games releasing that weekend just because of the IP
@Splat yeah combat is great. Factions being cancelled really is depressing.
@Americansamurai1 I agree... especially after spending like ten hours in No Return. The combat is incredibly good I would like at least a co-op horde mode in a future update.
@IamJT hopefully we get something in part 3.
Happy for both of them tbh
Let's hope (somehow) that No Return mode is successful so they might reconsider making a multiplayer out of it (or just resuming development). Just the exact same mode but with real enemies (aka players), best multiplayer out there, done.
@Splat The combat in tlou and especially in 2 is the best combat in any game?
Still smashing the no return, almost completed all challenges for each character. I know live service is the main reason they dropped the online game but it would be good for some updates in the future, new challenges etc. not holding my breath though. Gonna take me a while to complete a daily run on grounded though
@Grimwood I hope that Sony/Naughty Dog decide to partner with another company to support The Last of Us Online and revive it like they are apparently doing with the Horizon MMO. That would allow ND to oversee development, but primarily focus on The Last of Us Part III and their new IP.
So wait, The Last of Us Part II Remastered is selling well? But the internet told me that no one wanted it and Naughty Dog are just greedy, woke, cash grabbers? Surely, the internet wouldn't lie to me....
@Ocelot I feel like the No Return mode been included in the remaster was No.1 to beef out the original game( barely 4 years didn't really need a remaster) and No.2 I belive this no return mode is basically a test for upcoming part 3 or maybe they have plans to keepnet updated for some time after
@theSpectre well internet also said spiderman would win every category it was nominated in...so i don't know what happens here just a simple fact of bandwagon for ske of argument i guess, very strange i got lied to online 😒
@Uromastryx the Internet did not say that ,the Internet said bg3
Have any VR-only games ever made the list? I’m curious how well Vertigo 2 sold.
That’s honestly a shame…
@IOI Probably VR games sell best digitally. That's my guess. This is physical chart only
I hope Sony also focus on smaller games. Gone are the days of PS2 era of small odd games, som eof which are gems. Sony should also remake its old IPs such as Syphon Filter. Replaying that or other classic titles on PS Premium, I can't stand it, despite growing up with them.
@Pushsquare, can you pool how many people are playing those classic titles? The vocals were so loud for BC blah blah. But I feel the Sony boss said the truth—only a minority ever touches them. Don't even bring up what the MS boss said, I know that, but he was always dodgy and not truthful. That said some retro NES/ super NES games are still enjoyable.
Genuinely surprised NEITHER game topped the chart. I mean, I’m not surprised TLOU2 Remastered sold well, but I’m surprised it launched at #3 behind Hogwarts Legacy, which has been out almost a full year now. I’d assume most people just paid the $10 upgrade perhaps?
For what it’s worth, I’m playing Prince of Persia and am sad to see it so low. Yes, the graphics aren’t so impressive, but the gameplay certainly is!
Oh boy, all this "outrage" must've made a difference, eh?
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is simply amazing. Way to early to talk about GotY but Prince of Persia is my GotY anyways. The best Metroidvania since Hollow Knight.
Shout out to Ubisoft for having a GotY for me every ten years.
Rayman Legends in 2014
Prince of Persia in 2024
Looking forward to any Ubisoft publishing game in 2034. Let's goooo.
@Splat Pretty sure most people didn't find problems in the combat of The Last of Us Pt. 2 game but sure other things though. The combat is universally respected.
Maybe everyone is playing Prince of Persia on Ubisoft+?
How is warner bros so dominant??
1. Hogwarts Legacy
5. Mortal Kombat 1
8. Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
9. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
I doubt Suicide squad will have a tail as long as these games
@CharlieChooChoo was all lies because clearly RE4 was GOTY!!
Well, to be fair, Last of Us is pretty much a cultural icon, at this point. Prince of Persia, had no way of competing with that. Yes, most anyone who has been a gamer for most of their lives, knows the IP, but you'd be hard press to find public or casual gamers that know anything about it.
I guess PoP will have longer legs than TLoUP2R, especially with the large share of Switch version sales, see NL:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/01/uk-charts-prince-of-persia-starts-strong-while-another-code-struggles-to-make-a-splash
Shows that people do love or like TLoUP2 despite what the loud minority think. Haven't played PoP yet as it was between that or Tekken 8 and i chose Tekken 8 but i hope it does well as we need more PoP in gaming.
@Splat Yeah barely touched the campaign so far as No Return is just too additive, way worth the £10 upgrade just for that.
@DennisReynolds I'm legit surprised at how much I enjoy it. I know it's highly unlikely, but if they added new Maps, Characters and trophies I would be extremely happy.
I think they dropped the ball not adding Bill and Tess.
@Splat Yeah i'm hoping they add to it as well, more characters and maybe even locations from the first game would be really welcome.
So what percent is physical and digital in the UK? I mean come on. Another Sony wins article to make the board happy?
Is the $10 upgrade considered a purchase 🤔
@cburg and @Drago201: This is Physical sales only.
@kazuyamushima ah there still not counting digital
irrelevant, but does anybody know if the 10$ upgrade on ps store counts as a new sale ? TLOU2 is in the first spots of the best selling categories on ps store, but idk if it is because of people buying the upgrade, or people buying the game
That is depressing. Shame PoP didn't debut higher as a brand new game. HL still selling tons like last year.
Sure, but Hogwarts Legacy is still on the top.
I don't actually have any proof of this but I think people are more likely to go digital for these smaller games like PoP. I know I'm like this.
Obviously that doesn't necessarily mean it would be on top if digital was included.
@DennisReynolds horde mode Bill’s Town! You could set the traps and everything
@IamJT Its annoying at the endless possibilities they could take No Return in but most likely won't.
@Splat combat is PT2 is a little better then 1 but it's not amazing
