The success of Helldivers 2's simultaneous launch on both PS5 and PC appears to have caught several interested parties off guard, blowing through initial projections with its ludicrously addictive brand of chaotic, cooperative gameplay. That's despite fairly serious server issues since launch on Friday, with multiple patches (including another released today) already deployed.
Perhaps that's why developer Arrowhead has put out a public call to arms to any developers skilled or brave enough to spread Democracy to the ends of the galaxy. Creative director Johan Pilestedt took to Twitter, seeking "more amazing developers" who can help Arrowhead "accelerate and beef up our content plans". Specific job listings will be posted to Arrowhead's recruitment site soon, and Pilestedt notes that "if you're a senior dev, there's always the 'open application'".
Arrowhead's objective is to secure the server situation and provide patches and fixes to support the ongoing war effort, but that's just the beginning. The developers said a content roadmap is coming so players can decide if this is a cause worth supporting. Arrowhead has previously pledged that all future content would be free to players and that "enemies, objectives, [and] biomes" were all possibilities. They've also promised to make good for the rocky launch and lost rewards with some limited-time events in the future.
What do you think of Helldivers 2 as an ongoing title? Is it something you could see yourself revisiting? Enlist in the comments section below.

Had a lot of connection issues but still can’t wait to get home and play. It’s super fun, and I can already see tons of collab with other brands. As long as it has cool endgame content like early Destiny that require good teamwork, and some nice new areas (it would be cool if the maps open up and you go dungeon crawling) I can’t see this one going away. Looking forward to the roadmap and no connection issues. GOTY so far.
I bought this yesterday and spent most of the evening on it. Brilliant game and I love the whole starship troopers thing it has going. Do the liberated zones unlock because I feel as though I'm locked out of areas and a chunk of game just because I didn't purchase day one? Other than that great fun and some real laugh out loud moments.
@Northern_munkey The global campaign will run for a specified period of time and then be reset. I believe the first one is only like 1 week unless I misunderstood.
@Northern_munkey once a planet and zone have been liberated another one will open up. It has nothing to do with you. I believe it is the entire population of Helldivers that are taking part.
Do your bit for liber-tea. You will see the rewards come your way. Enjoy the fight.
@Northern_munkey i wondered the same as i got it a day before you and a bunch of zones were already liberated. It is a fun game tho but im finding that alot of people when i join a group are doing the main objective then calling for extraction and not doing the side missions. This is losing us extra rewards.
I haven‘t played it, but from what I read and hear is: This is one of those games Sony wants to imitate with its upcoming Live Service games. But it seems to me that it is really hard to hit, the game must be authentic, and fun is not guaranteed.
That said: Will Sony buy Arrowhead?
Excellent. This is great news. The game is so much fun already. We're getting one or two more people in work to play it every few days.
It makes sense as this is the only live service hit Sony has ever had. I'm glad it turned out good for those that like these loops. Not my thing.
As bad as it sounds I genuinely wanted hell divers to fail so that Sony doesn't get some reenforcing metric to continue wasting time and money on a slough of live service games to come.
Many say in response to the idea that live service is bad, something along the lines that 'it's not live service that's bad, it's that many of the recent releases have been bad. Good live service games are great! ' I disagree with this in some respects. I think it's actually more so that many dislike live service foundationally as a game design, and others like it and get hooked in by the design tactics.
So whether a live service game is good or not may only determine whether that second group gives it a go or not. The firm dislikers of the scheme will likely always remain so because it's focus on grind based loops, drip fed content and fomo based spending just don't work on them and it's not something they see as worth spending time on.
I am definitely of the Anti Live service crowd, and ultimately I want all live service projects to fail. Because I want this oasis in the desert to stop being chased. As it's starting to take the place of many games just as it completely reshaped what a online multiplayer game is many years ago now. It's also tanking talented studios run by non gaming interests simply looking for another revenue stream to bleed dry and attempting to use the revered pedigree of a studio to sell it.
So as great as it is that this game has released to praise, It's hard for me to be happy for their success only because of the implications it has for the minds of those greedy corporate interests.
However I'm happy the hard work the individual members of the dev team that worked on the game are seeing their work praised and enjoyed by many. So to that, kudos to those folks!
@Max_the_German Doubt it. Don't need to buy the tree when you've already got the fruit.
This is great to see.
Has anybody played it solo or with random people. What's it like? I got these two kids to deal with so gaming time is too random to play online. I'm a Billy-No-Mates. I stay away from online games in teams so I don't upset some random, potty mouth punk who gets the unfortunate position of being in the same team as me. Could I play alone or am I dreaming. I was 16 when Starship Troopers came out. All I could think was "this would be a great game" I even played a mode in command and conquer retribution where giant ants attacked your base. That was awesome.
@Monstermash40 During the week I dabble in solo missions on Easy, or more lately Normal mode as I've unlocked more useful ship add-ons. It's still a lot of fun, but I only do it to keep myself ticking over until Friday.
It's definitely more enjoyable in co-op, and I say that as someone who vastly prefers playing solo. This game is just too much chaotic fun when you play with people. Even two player is a lot of fun.
I only play in a party on the weekends, but I'm sure myself or anyone here would be happy to jump in if you need an assist.
Hopefully they fix the broken armor rating system soon
The servers certainly seemed more stable last night. Matchmaking actually worked and I got a few missions in with some random people.
@Monstermash40 @Shepherd_Tallon
You can add me if you want. Im quite new to the game but im up for a game whenever. My tag is in my bio.
@ChrisDeku @Kidfunkadelic83 @Joshua2255 cheers guys I knew there must have been a reason it just seemed a bit strange. Wicked game 👍
@Northern_munkey same mate. Its like starting a game thats half complete lol. Feel free to add me if you want mate. I dont mind having a few games.
@Jamesblob 25 years ago? Live service as we know it didn't exist then. Albeit one could say that subscription based mmorpgs were the precursor to what is now some of aspects of some live service games, I'll give ya that.
@starbuck2212 Sony need to buy them before someone else do.
Nice to read about a success story in these troubled times instead of the usual layoffs for a change!
@Jay767 Yeah maybe but that's what we said after FF7 Remake released. I don't think MS will be buying anymore studios for the foreseeable future.
@starbuck2212 arrowhead can easily be brought they a smaller studio. It benefits arrowhead to get brought by Sony to have direct access to Sony resources. I don’t understand why you would have a problem with them being brought by Sony.
Loving this a lot. Been playing mostly 3 player with 2 of my pals and man, haven't cried laughing playing a game in such a long time. It's a ton of fun and as the difficultly increases it just gets more and more ridiculous and more more and entertaining.
I have done a few missions solo but it definitely loses that magic. A couple of times I've played with randoms have been great. Even though people aren't speaking on mics there is still that sense of team work and helping each other out, which is nice.
I will buy this after I play enough Foamstars. By the way, where is the review for Foamstar? It is actually a well made game with fun gameplay. Shame it doesn't get enough attention.
@Kidfunkadelic83 cheers bud I might just do that 👍
@Northern_munkey Im new to the game and havexall stock items/weapons so if you dont mind that then feel free.
@Jay767 I have zero problems. I just don't a benefit for PlayStation.
@starbuck2212 I Do It gives Sony a studio that can make multiplayer games without forcing one of their other studios to do it. and Sony could easily hand them one of their dormant IPs like Socom or warhawk
@KundaliniRising333 TL;DR XD
@Areus I'd kill for a new Socom.
@Kidfunkadelic83 yeah I've only dived into a couple of solo missions so I have nothing either lol. I'll send you a request in a bit..👍
