An upcoming Dying Light 2 update is said to be so significant that Techland has decided to tie it in with a new Reloaded Edition of the game for PS5, PS4. Available on the PS Store from 22nd February 2024, the Reloaded Edition bundles the base game and its Bloody Ties DLC together, then includes a fresh patch that adds guns to the open world experience.
A Game Rant exclusive explains that since the original title was designed entirely around melee weapons, the developer needed to come up with story reasoning for guns to suddenly turn up in Villedor. This will be felt once you boot the game up after downloading the update, which also lands on Thursday. There'll be new content for solo and co-op players too, and a few surprises for fans of the original Dying Light. The visuals are also said to have been improved too.
A quality sequel we felt was "hurt by expectation", Dying Light 2 earned a 7/10 rating in our PS5 review upon release. "Dying Light 2 is a super solid follow-up to the 2015 original, building upon its fantastic gameplay loop with new traversal options for even more parkour fun. It's extremely disappointing, however, that the narrative and open world promises Techland made in the lead up to launch haven't been realised."

I was really excited for this game but heard the narrative just isn't very good. That's a huge draw for me in most games so I wonder if this is worth playing after all these updates
Still haven't played played this yet despite owning it at launch. I recently upgraded to the Steam Deck OLED from the normal Steam Deck and boy oh boy what a difference it makes. It looks like now is the perfect time to jump in.
Guns, it finally has guns! Im in!
I actually think this game deserves a re-review.
I played it on launch and found it lacking. I'd love to know if its improved enough to warrant re-trying it.
Also, all the updates and DLC are free right?
I got to the part where you get the glider and just......... . couldn't be bothered anymore, it's a decent time but it's just missing c something.
I've had far more fun in Dead Island 2
But where’s the bloody story DLC we were promised?!
I literally paid for deluxe and still don’t have the DLC we were promised. Come on Techland.
So I've got the base game only, is the bloody ties becoming free dlc too?
A shame that Techland listened to feedback of wanting guns instead of sticking with the whole melee focused aspect they were going for.
@CallMeDuraSouka later you get grappling hook which makes traversal even more fun. Additional upgrades gives a nice weapon.
@Nepp67 The narrative tried to explain it, but ultimately fell flat. The game has a lot of plot holes.
@SeanOhOgain The story is just flat out boring and unengaging. Aiden is on a mission to find his sister and basically becomes an errand boy for these other factions and takes forever to get to that point.
@Bunchesopuppies I really wonder what we wouldve gotten with Chris Avellone had he not gotten fired :/
I really adored the first Dying Light but still haven't touched the sequel. Looks like now is a good time to finally jump in.
Felt part 2 looked way too cartoony. That's fine if you like games that look animated, but I was hoping for something more photorealistic. The story was lame also,
This game was so disappointing at launch that I haven't played it much since. I'll wait and see if a Complete Edition comes out on disc and give it another go then. Or download a cheap digital copy for Steam Deck one of these days.
Too little too late, I've already 100% the game and it's content, there were limited guns but I didn't need them mostly, why add them now? Unless this update has any significance, I won't bother with this one
I have tried going back to this game twice and both times I got too bored or too frustrated to continue. I don't think I'll be wasting any more time on it for a couple more years at least
@CVCubbington how did it look cartoony and the story wasn’t anymore lame than the first game hell it was better than that
@CallMeDuraSouka man just the amount of movement options DL 2 provides smokes DI 2 and the level design also. The verticality of DL 2 is super impressive especially how many interiors there are and mini puzzles to solve to get into some of them. DI 2 was a fun time but I just feel it wore out it’s welcome long before it’s end while DL 2 with its movement, combat and exploring lasted a lot longer before hitting the point of ok let’s wrap this up
@RubyCarbuncle I just completed it recently on the oled steam deck. Highly recommend it.
@SeanOhOgain terrible story, terrible characters, lack of x-ray camera on launch, zombie design boring, physics downgrade and much more.
Wish it was a third person view. First person view with Parkour is a bad combo.
Been loving this since day one. There's been nothing wrong with it. I upgraded to the PS5 version recently and I've put in another 100 hours since then too. It's a great game that's fun to play. Story is dreadful, but so was the first. And the map design is brilliant.
Too many focus on what games are not. Hence: gun update. Unnecessary, but it'll not stop me playing. I'm sure it'll just add to the fun.
