It's February now, and we are officially in sight of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the jaw-dropping sequel to Square Enix's 2020 Remake, out on the auspicious date of 29th February. The wait has been a long one, but if the 145GB of PS5 real estate director Tetsuya Nomura is demanding of players is anything to go by, Cloud and company's next adventure is going to be a true epic.
That's according to trusted PSN trawler PlayStation Game Size, which reveals the scale of the beast, giving us all plenty of time to finish up lingering replays or distractions and properly prepare our hard drives. Tough decisions may be necessary, and if you never got around to Intergrade, well, now's the time.
In other Rebirth news, another State of Play showcase was announced for next week, dedicated entirely to the game. Producer Yoshinori Kitase, along with Nomura, recently sat down with the PlayStation Blog to discuss the process of reimagining characters like Aerith and Sephiroth due to the zoomed-in nature of Rebirht's scope.
How are you managing the wait until Rebirth arrives? Plotting any particular playthrough this month? Let us know in the comments section below.

Anus! Also, I am gladly ready for this
Download sizes these days are almost as big as Deez Nuts.
Guess I better finish up some games to make space. Can't wait for this one (my profile picture might give away my excitement).
Worth every gig. Spending this month dodging Rebirth spoilers, while getting 5 stars on Dondoko Island. I keep forgetting there's a whole JRPG called Infinite Wealth in this Animal Crossing clone as well.
I believe the game is also going to be on 2 discs. Very impressive. Will definitely support the physical version here.
@Cyberbotv2 Yep it's 2 discs so you don't need to download, just install in 2 minutes and it's done, it's also cheaper on the disc in the UK. Only £56 at Currys instead of £70 on the PSN store.
Holy cow. Good thing, I delete games when I am done with them.
So there's a demo coming for this and I've just watched the Phantom Blade Zero anime trailer that just dropped and at the end it had a little clip of the game and it says Phantom Blade Zero Demo coming 2024. I guess they must be confident in it if it's getting a demo as well.
My wife made me download Fortnite and CoD, so she can play with her friends, so I’m glad to see I will have to delete every other game on my hard drive to play this one, I suppose? I mean, seriously, toss Tekken 8 in there and my hard drive space is gone. My son will be really upset if I remove Astro’s Playroom, but I might have to!
ooof. i think that means they completed the textures this time around. hopefully the story doesn't completely go off the rails.
I cleaned up about 450 GB on my internal storage in anticipation of Infinite Wealth, P3R and FF7 Rebirth. Probably should be fine. So pumped for Rebirth but it’s going to take a lot to dethrone Infinite Wealth for my GOTY with how great it is
@MrMagic If only they gave us disc drives anywhere close to good enough to install any games from a disc in 2 minutes.
Wait until the full trilogy comes out in 2030 on 2 discs for PS6 and is 1 TB. lol
@MrMagic do you have some sort of supercharged ps5 or what ? Even from disc it will take awhile, and don't forget the inevitable 3-8GB day one patch 🙄
@Uromastryx @KilloWertz Yes it was a slight exaggeration. Chill out lol. 😉
My internal and NVME are full but there's a few games I'm not playing so can make space.
I finally finished Final Fantasy VII Remake last night, nearly 4 years after I first started it, so its very fresh in my mind and can't wait for Rebirth
@Cyberbotv2 Maybe it's just me, but I would be far more impressed if they actually managed to fit the game under 100GB. With good file size optimization and avoiding pre-rendered cutscenes, I'm sure that would've been possible with minimal hit to the quality.
@somnambulance for love’s sake buy an NVME expansion drive, your wife can thank us later
I suspect most of that is on cutscenes and due to it being open world in design,oh well I'd free the whole storage space for this game if i had to.
I won't get it on launch, and I'm playing 3 long PS5 games still (Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Final Fantasy XVI and The Witcher 3), but I'll manage when the time comes.
Quite packed up first quarter with one great game after another.
FF XVI is 92GB
FF7 Remake is 95GB
BG3 is only 110/120 GB 😂
FF7 Rebirth at 145GB is crazy
PS5 games are supposed to be optimised for smaller install sizes too 😵
@Pranwell indeed. I only have to pay £1.15p if I do want to purchase it day 1, as my aggregated voucher savings left over in my store wallet on top of PS Stars credits have stacked up rather nicely. And then some people will buy it new on disc, play it in one massive dorito's and domino's fuelled mega week and then sell it on and only pay net £10-15 for it.
Price is different for everyone, there is no clear cut "better" other than what works for you. But digital definitely isn't the set bad option that people like to say it is.
@Ravix I have been wondering this too — the promise of smaller install sizes has now evaporated with the increased complexity and breadth of these games. I supposed there’s no theoretical limit other than the size of the SSD. Cloud gaming will solve this eventually, but I’m surprised at how quickly game sizes have skyrocketed.
Well damn i'm guess i'm deleting a few games now.
@Pranwell How about I say what I want and you can be as lazy as you want?
Well that's just offensive. Especially for someone like me who likes to keep all of their games installed.
@MrMagic I know. I was just being technical. In the end though, I do what I want.
@Porco I shouldn't laugh, but that damned door still haunts my dreams!
What a joke these large filesizes are.
I thought Sony had some library that can reduce filesizes down? Did everyone just abandon that?
@MrMagic it's £69.99 on the Currys website
This is the reason I invested in a 4tb SSD
@Zemo55 Just enter the code it gives you, REBIRTH20 at checkout for 20% off at Currys also it's £59.99 at Smyth's toys as well. I've just checked the preorder offer is still on at Currys.
Guess I won't be playing this for a while then as I have no space left on PS5. I need to finish the first one anyway. I have final fantasy 16 installed and yet to start too so will probably finish those 2 before I get around to this one.
I have just played the first 3 hours of FF7 Remake on PS plus and I am very impressed. Already it feels significantly more enjoyable than when I played FF16. I may yet get rebirth. It will certainly be a busy month as I am already juggling Like a Dragon IW and P3R which are time sinks!
Will take me 4 hours to download. I can wait (to go on sale eventually).
@CWill97 man, I'm currently on chapter 9 of Infinite Wealth and I have to join you on that one. Absolutely incredible. I'm actually shocked the guys at Push Square only gave it a 9. Easy 10 for me
@somnambulance maybe it's time to treat yourself to some new storage? Not even half way through the PS5s life cycle yet. If you're having these problems now, they're only going to get worse 🤣
@Corc11 It hasn’t been a problem unless I have CoD and Fartnite on my hard drive. Lol. Most games are around 30-40 gb, but the big ones are so huge that I can see why the live service bubble is bursting. People can’t fit another one onto their hard drive space even if they wanted to! If my wife doesn’t actually use them, they won’t have a long shelflife on my console. I don’t mind games being massive if their value is massive, but thankfully I play games mostly one at a time or else I’d need to invest in storage space stat!
