A new update for Tekken 8 has dropped, bringing cosmetic DLC to the title via an in-game store. In truth, we think it's a bit cheeky of Bandai Namco to add something like this when all of the reviews have long been posted, but it's worth noting that Tekken 8 does have full character customisation and a range of alternate costumes by default. Still, it's a tad underhanded.
The patch itself weighs in at 2.9GB, and alongside the shop, it applies gameplay adjustments to a number of characters. These alterations are more to do with minor bug fixes than balancing, however. Certain moves that haven't been working as intended should now have the correct properties. You can find the full patch notes through this official link.
As for the shop, we took a look at the pricing structure and it's not quite as ridiculous as it could be. Legacy costumes for the likes of Jin and Kazuya will set you back roughly £4 / $5 a piece. Avatar outfits are also available, and brand deals with clothing companies seems to be a priority (of course).
What do you make of Tekken 8's latest update? Feel free to raise and eyebrow in the comments section below.

Where are the news about EA layoffs?
Adding microtransantions post launch is scummy af. It's not like they aren't already monetizing it with numerous season passes. Big L from Namco here

This is a real scum bag move. Reviews should be updated when companies do this. Hit them in the metacritic.
@DreamlandGem
Oh, somehow the article is way down in the feed on the main page.
I don’t care what anyone says. They offered a complete product WITHOUT micro transactions. The outfits are only $4 and everyone still has plenty of customization options if you don’t want to spend the money. It’s OPTIONAL. People need to pick and choose their battles and this ain’t it ya’ll. #mk1sucks
Bleh, I wasn't a big fan of Capcom doing something like this with SF6, not a big fan of Tekken doing it either.
Well, I don't care. The game already offers great content and I'm happy for what comes with the Season Passes.
Already deleted it didn't think much of it so definitely the last Tekken I'll buy
@JP80 @Smash41
What a foolish logic. The game doesn't get worse, it's just an option.
So PS, why not revisit your review and adjust it accordingly? If you view it as underhand, and I can appreciate why, then discourage the practice by reevaluating the game. It's in your power to do that instead of pointlessly lamenting on it as if you have to accept it. You'd be doing us all a service, and it's good journalism.
I don't have any issues with it personally. I don't see why this should change the rating of the game when the base game offers more than enough content both game mode wise and customizability.
I don't think it should come as a surprise considering Harada had talked about adding a shop and how it's supposed to help fund supporting the game.
They even said with the new characters, they'll add more story content for free.
This is just customization and aesthetics. Gives no advantage to the gameplay whatsoever.
My only issue is the predatory way they went about the microtransactions similar to other games where you can't buy exactly 400 coins and so you're forced to have leftovers currency.
Otherwise, this microtransaction feels no different than the monster hunter ones that will hopefully help support them in adding free content later on.
I have no issues with this at all- game has a massive amount of content for free and you don't need these items to play it, just let people enjoy it and buy them if they want. I agree it doesn't make the game worse, just gives people options. Some of the developers said Tekken 8 cost 3 times more to make than Tekken 7 and money made from the shop would go back into additional characters and story mode in the game so that's fair enough
@JP80 Yeah, same but only tried the demo, it has way to much fantasy cheese like characters, visual effects even the music these days compared to Tekken 1, 2, 3 or even up to 5, I suppose it could be a Japanese style type of thing like many other game's but it's just not for me now.
@Nintendo4Sonic I very much agree. I am having a lot of fun with Tekken and an optional shop with no bearing on gameplay is not going to affect my time with it. I also sympathise with Harada’s reasoning for adding a shop. Games cost a ton of money to develop which is often recuperated during release window sales but they also cost money to maintain. Initial Tekken 8 sales alone are not going to keep the servers live and regular updates happening for the next 10 years. If people buying silly outfits and accessories improves the gaming experience for everyone then that’s absolutely fine by me.
I would pay 10$ to play all characters nude
I’m fine with it. I very much like Tekken 8 so I’ll check out the shop. I do like than Jun costume. She’s my main.
I don't think reviewers should have to update their reviews. Adding a shop, which has been known about, doesn't change the way Tekken 8 plays or the fact that a ton of content (more than most modern fighting games) is offered right out of the box. That said, I don't like how fighting games have become ridiculous with their microtransaction schemes. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round and DoA 6 are among the worst but stuff like Street Fighter 6 isn't much better. Namco just opened this one and I'll be interested to see how it progresses over time. The initial prices don't seem terrible but there also isn't much here yet.
@EYEBALL I would have to admit, having been with the series since the 1st title, I'm also less divested in/ attracted to all the weird high fantasy stuff that's going on (as if there weren't enough in the game already!), it also feels and plays very differently to 7 (updated frames and animations totally put my timing off), but I stuck with it, and have been enjoying playing it with friends. Takes a while, but it does work well, when you're feeling it.
Scumbag move, uninstalled and sold this game, won't support adding a cash shop after launch like that thanks Scamco
