It appears the movie industry is coming for every gaming IP it can get its hands on at the moment because it has been confirmed EA's life simulator series The Sims will be turned into a film. Margot Robbie's production firm is attached, and the film will be produced and co-written by Kate Herron of Loki fame. EA serves in a "creative and producing capacity".
LuckyChap, a production company Margot Robbie is a part of that made last year's Barbie, is overseeing the production of The Sims. Before that, PlayStation fans can get to grips with Kate Herron's producing qualities as she's signed up to direct some episodes in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us TV adaptation.

That's ridiculous. You could take anything about people living in a home and say it's The Sims. Frasier is The Sims, Eastenders is The Sims, Spaced is The Sims.
Yep it’ll work. Same sort of zany energy she brings to Barbie and it’s a winner. Can already picture the movie now, soundtrack of modern pop in Simlish just like the games, a few obligatory Sul Suls etc. Please just have the mystery of Bella Goth, stick Margot Robbie in as essentially Sharon Tate again. Don Lothario was involved, I know it!
@Matroska "Spaced is The Sims" — this surely has to be the only time in human history where that realisation has been formulated.
@nessisonett They need to commit and have the entire movie spoken in simlish with subtitles. Anything less would be cowardly.
@ShogunRok God I love Spaced. I'm not even from Britain so it's rare I'm reminded of that gem
@zhoont At the risk of going completely off topic, Spaced is an all-timer. Quotes from that show will always exist in my brain alongside an ungodly number of Simpsons references.
The first movie to come out with 55 pieces of DLC. I'll wait until Vampires are added to the movie as usual.
It would be funnier if they spoke in simspeak.
This is so stupid. I can't wait.
It can actually be quite clever if the characters all speak like in the games but the story/plot can be still understood clearly
@Bunchesopuppies IT’S CALLED SIMLISH YABOHU NAHULILAJINIBA JIPOJIBOTU
I wish they would make it so I can play Sims 3 on PC again.
@ShogunRok Spaced, The Simpson and Peep Show are the holy trio of quotes that live in my head and are referenced on a daily basis.
The Sims could make for a decent horror movie. There could be one scene where a sim is swimming, only to find out that the ladder to climb out has disappeared.
It's gonna be a sim breaking out of the simulation and speaking English. You've heard it here first folks. Get your predictions from me
I expect that it'll be another way-too-on-the-nose allegory for people being ruled by their brain-washed consumerist desires, and feature a Sim breaking into real-life to live an 'authentic' life.
So I'd better do some overtime so I can buy those cinema tickets!
Base it on the weird DS game which was set in a haunted hotel of kinds in the middle of a desert, with ghosts and aliens etc in residence!
Was a fever dream of a game, a could make for an off the wall movie! xD
@ShogunRok came here to say this, performed completely deadpan/earnestly as well. Done right it could be the comedy film of the year
But how will it work out as a movie? Do they create a character and you see them being controlled ? And do they have that green icon above their heads to show who it is being controlled?
Curious to see what direction this film goes in. There better be plumbobs and simlish. 🙊
It could work if it was about the player using the game to cope with their life issues and them learning from the game to come out of their shell and not need the game anymore as a buffer. Or as a horror movie. Existential crisis simulator?
Another Barbie type film with a green diamond above her head
So I have 2 theories/ ideas. 2) create a sim and put them in the lives of the Goth family and their story (it gets pretty wild. murder, drama, mystery, and time travel).
2) They could also use the existential crisis some Sims encounter (I think there is an evil doctor who finds out about him being in a simulation and then starts controlling other sims). the lore gets pretty crazy haha
It is already out, it is series and it's called "Days of our lives"
To me games like Sims or survival games/other life sims. Sims Story focused games like the GBA/PSP/DS ones or the Urbz Sims in the City or even the Sims 3 Medievil/Sims Stories for Sims 2 or whatever.
If it's choose your own adventure then sure. But it won't be. Is Sims silly yes, can they replicate that maybe. Do we need a movie to advertise the Sims. No. I don't need a go read the manga anime adaptation type advertising experience of a movie for the sims.
If it was telling of the Goth family or Strangetown sure or a unique town. Many some Sims in jokes but Sims 4 is so eh these days of business model to even old Sims aspects anymore. Let alone stretching assets and concepts so thin in packs. You can tell I stopped at Sims 3 right. Mostly played Sims 1 and 2.
A movie eh. They work as games stories linear or the open ended ones. A movie can work it's just why do we need one other than it's a popular IP, this will be great. Not oh the games are superior so why bother. As if the Sims audience isn't mostly casuals besides the odd gamers yes that enjoy it. I enjoy Sims, 10+ years ago before they ruined it these days. EA makes enough money from Sims as it is anyway.
I get that enough with anime, I don't need to see a Sims movie be a go play the games advertisement. I see enough go read the manga anime as it is.
They can try and appeal to people but how much more do they need to then console/mobile audiences of Sims that are. More people sure but I mean Sims is so well known.
To me movies seem yes like ads but also just more fans and trying to get newcomers but for the sake of more nonsense then benefit.
Like Sonic movies I get it it's a kids property but even still they are just Santa Claus movies, the eh drama and eh kids movie fun parts you actually want to see with the character than a more interesting Mario movie in their world type experience which is why the Sonic movies didn't appeal to me. I don't want to watch Sonic Santa Claus movies (none of the Xmas theming of course in that example just the drama/kid enjoys the magic of it all and many of us probably do too then the whatever drama we don't care about in the movies because when was the drama actually GOOD or WORTH LISTENING TO over the magical stuff that's more exciting).
Those stories games with a goal have a place as much as the dynamic gameplay the main entries offer.
But making a movie to me just kind of kills it because it can be like the stories games but that's the thing, simplifying them or more broad. Being linear, trying to nail or advertise Sims to people. Who wants that out of a Sims movie.
A movie can try but the games just lend themselves to being dynamic, crazy at any moment of what your sims do based on the player's choices, the sim's skills, traits, or the game just being weird about it whenever it feels like it.
If nobody drowns in a pool its trash.
