An all-new trailer for Unknown 9: Awakening, the first entry in a cross-media franchise from Reflector, has given us our first proper glimpse of protagonist Haroona, portrayed here by The Witcher’s Anya Chalotra. The game’s due out on PS5 and PS4 this summer, which brings to an end a tumultuous development cycle, following the release’s reveal over three years ago.
“You’ll step into Haroona’s shoes following a life-changing loss,” explains Reflector’s Jennifer Benjamin. “At first, revenge is all you’re after, but the Unknown 9 universe has other plans. Before you know it, in addition to seeking vengeance, you find yourself on a globetrotting journey, uncovering powerful hidden knowledge.”
The main gameplay trick showcased in this trailer is how Haroona can effectively embody her opponents, using their unique skills and abilities to turn the tide in battle. It’s a fun mechanic which should give you some freedom to explore different playstyles, like whether you’d prefer to conduct yourself stealthily or more aggressively.
The lore that’s being touted here feels a little overbearing and heavy to us, as is so often the case when cross-media strategies are teased from the start. But we like the gameplay concept, so there’s certainly promise in this one. Presumably we’ll be seeing a lot more now in the lead up to the title’s launch later this year.

Huh, never heard of it but it looks interesting.
Love how you can possess multiple people in a short time.
Side note, the article title was confusing at first 😅
Cross media is such a hard thing to do. I just don’t see it working.
I'm always on the lookout for more single-player, story driven games (I assume that's what this is), so I'll keep an eye on this.
For a moment I was puzzled as how I missed the first 8 games, then realized they don’t exist.
Does anyone else feel like this will be another Forspoken?
@VatoLoco47 ….because there’s a woman of colour in it? Forspoken was a Squeenix title written by Amy Hennig, the expectations are completely different here.
I remember seeing a cinematic teaser for this a long time ago
@VatoLoco47
You mean a game with a female main character that talks...
God forbid
Man. It's going to suck having to play the first 8 just to get up to speed on wtf is happening.
@nessisonett lol not at all, are people that brainwashed that they immediately start attacking. With the magic ablities and same looking setting. Just doesn't feel original. I actually like the actress from The Witcher
@BeerIsAwesome Thank you! This guy gets it
I thought wow when I saw rhe opening cinematics thinking it was in game engine. Only to be disappointed by the generic look. I know I won't be only one put off by the generic look
I was interested in this game years ago when it was first revealed. Thought it had died so Im happy to see it back. Im rooting for Anya too so I hope she pulls it off.

@EchoRange and how the hell did you come to this conclusion? The rainbow logo? The 'brown' character? Dude, come on ...
Btw it looks interesting and absolutely nothing like Forspoken.
She's a terrible actress and one of the reasons I stopped watching the series. People are comparing to Forspoken but I don't think it's fair, since Forspoken at least had good graphics and the gameplay was acceptable. This looks much worse.
Somehow they've managed to make beautiful woman look bad lol
Will be interesting to see how this runs on PS4.
@BeerIsAwesome
It must be because it has a female lead that talks you misogynist!
How dare you sir!
Anyone else tired of these people who see identity politics always and everywhere?
Because I sure as hell am.
@VatoLoco47 I’ve been hoping for another Forspoken! I really enjoyed the game. It’s a shame it was so reviled on the internet because it did do a lot of unique things in combat and traversal. The gameplay was some of my absolute favorite gameplay of last year. Was it a GotY contender? Definitely not, but it ended up sticking in my personal top 10 all year, as that combat and traversal stuck with me, even with any flaws the game had. I do like it when games aren’t afraid to be video games and Forspoken definitely was video game-y to the max. I wish we got that kind of creativity from more AAA titles.
@matekomlosi sorry I am joking
That's some straight up trash right there. Dunno who's gonna be dropping good money on this unless it drops in a drought of any half decent content.
