It’s almost time for the next season of Gameloft’s free-to-play kart racer Disney Speedstorm, and this author’s dreams of an Alice in Wonderland-themed update have been crushed yet again. Instead, the developer appears to be teasing Wreck-It Ralph content, by posting a small GIF of a candy-themed race track. Expect an official announcement to follow in the coming days.
Racers included in this season are likely to include Ralph himself, as well as Venelope. Of note, earlier in the month, Gameloft announced plans to completely reboot the way racer upgrades operate, doing away with character-specific currencies in favour of a more universal token system. It remains to be seen how the community will respond to this potentially seismic change.

I was excited for this yesterday when the in game counter said Season 6 ended in 6 days, next Tuesday, but this morning it said Season 6 ends in 20 days, so excitement much diminished.
Between the extra 2 weeks and the ridiculously awful match making system where my level 15 racer is put in races with level 40 racers hence losing points every match and going down levels I’m pretty much done.
Oh and the new system where everything is purchased with the same coins rather than different types of material seems to me like it’s removing some interesting aspects of the game.
So yeah, back to wasting my time on Fortnite and hoping after a decade of waiting a new Mario Kart releases next year.
@rjejr They match players up based on MPR rather than level, don’t they. Seems like it should at least be a blend of the two. And seeing the season end date suddenly extend by two weeks was a bit deflating, as was the announcement about the different materials going away.
I guess I shouldn’t complain, though, since I’ve never completed any of those “tell us what you think” surveys. Just be yourself, game, you don’t need me or anyone else telling you how to be. It’s still my daily go to for a quick 10 minute blast of fun.
@BeautifulCreatures
There have been so many contenders but none seem to be able to dethrone M*r*o and friends. I used to buy Nintendo systems just to play the new versions of that game. Nothing else comes close.
@Amnesiac It’s probably MPR, which since it’s basically a measure of how long you played is meaningless. If I practice riding my bicycle every day for 10 years someone who has a driver’s license for a day is still going to beat me in a race.🤪 I know matchmaking can’t be an exact science, though since it’s all coding it should mostly be science anyway, and I try not to be too bothered when my level 25 racer is up against all level 35 racers, b/c there is still a chance based on items, crew and skill to come in 2nd or 3rd, but the hard numbers on a level 15 driver simply can not compete with four level 40+ no matter what else is done. That’s bad programming. Really bad.
The extra 2 week wait, after every day for the past week the game has booted to a screen that says “New changes coming in season 7”, tells me they just don’t know what they are doing. They certainly should have xtended the season by 2 weeks before telling us about the changes. Why tell us it’s coming next week for an entire week to just delay it another two weeks?
I was playing it about an hour a day, give or take, but I think I’m done now.🤷🏻♂️
Isn't there a new Fortnite kart racing game? How is that one? Any opinions?
Vanellope* full name Princess Vanellope von Schweetz
@rjejr their matchmaking system primarily uses mpr… but it does take level into some consideration… however once you get into high enough mpr races it is lessened… so people have to still level up their racers instead of abusing the system and never leveling up…
@inverseIV OK I gotta ask, how is racing online and expecting other players to be using similar racers "abusing the system"? Don't you think it's the devs forcing pay-to-win while trying to give people the impression the racing is matched that is the problem? 🤷♂️
@rjejr As far as abusing the system… if the game was entirely matched by level only… you could technically keep your racer at level 1 and just work your way to max rank beating brand new players to the game. The rank mode in the game is garbage for the most part… needs a big overhaul that they seem to refuse to even acknowledge… that’s pretty much 95% of the conversation on their discord… how much people dislike rank mode…
@inverseIV What would be worse for them though, having that 1 insane person racing at level 1 coming in last every single race over and over again b/c I've never seen anyone else under rank 15, until they ultimately max out at level 15 b/c nobody w/ a level 1 racer is ever coming in the top 4, or having a lot of players quit the game entirely b/c their ranking system sucks? 🤷♂️
Thanks for letting me know about the uproar on Discord though, I can stop posting my pics every day on Twitter now. Well I suppose I was going to anyway since I stopped playing. By the time the new season rolls out in another 3 weeks the game will be a distant memory, like my 2,000 levels in Candy Crush all those years ago. 😂
@rjejr I guess you’re unaware of the players that star level 5 racers… get max crew all 5 stars… but leave their racers at level 1 to get easier matching for a bit… the material changes to season 7 is going to prevent that from happening from now on though… since you need shards and resources per level….
@inverseIV Yes I am very unaware, thanks for the info, they sound like aholes. 😂 Still, why punish the majority for the few freaks? Unless the freaks are the whales supporting the games, then by all means do whatever they can to keep them paying. Gotta pay the bills.
I do think 1 problem they seem to be addressing is shards and leveling. Almost every racer I see is either 15, 25 or 35, very few in between. Which means level 15 against 35. If they do what I think they're going to do and make the shards level racers up level by level, rather than 10 levels at a time, well if a race consists of level 15, 17, 18, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32 the difference doesn't stand out as much as 15, 25, 25, 35, 35, 35, 35, 40.
But they should have told everyone the new season was being delayed 2 weeks first, then later on told everyone about the changes. Telling us about how good the new season is going to be only to delay it 2 weeks, well what good is that? So I may be done.
Of course it could always be worse. Dreamlight (Starlight?) Valley was supposed to be free to play until it wasn't, and Ultraversus went away for a year after people paid money for DLC. So delaying things 2 weeks to make things better could work out in the end. They really should have added a new chapter to the season though to make up for the delay. Though I haven't played to day yet so maybe they did something nice?🤷♂️
@rjejr I’m probably one of the most vocal people on their discord lol… Gameloft basically just doesn’t communicate with the community at all now… except for the same super tiny updates they post on Twitter… they disappeared entirely by season 2 on discord because they didn’t want to deal with the negative feedback they were getting about rank and matchmaking.
Oh yeah… they didn’t even release a small event today at all… entirely empty week except for the usual daily stuff….
@inverseIV Yeah there wasn't much new today. I did think Friday's they usually had like 4 or 5 new events that I played over the weekend - I don't play Fortnite over the weekend, too many kids, ruins my win % - but today was the usual money maker and the 'bonus" thing. And 1 Atlantica race. A new season chapter would have been nice as we have now almost 3 weeks to wait but I wasn't expecting one. I did think they'd throw more stuff our way though. Maybe they took off for Good Friday? The Mets offense did. 😝
I keep saying I'm quitting but I keep playing, it's addictive. 😜 I am staying away from ranked though, especially w/ anybody under level 25, and no going over gold rank 16. I have a 4 day trip coming up, may forget to play after that. 🤷♂️
