We're not actually sure when the next Digimon Story game was first announced, but we do know that it was years ago. Back in early 2022, Bandai Namco reassured fans that the title was still in development, and now, two whole years later, we're getting that same comment again.
As reported by Gematsu, the update was provided during Digimon Con 2024, with the series' producer commenting: "We apologise for keeping fans waiting, but we ask for your patience until we're ready to share more information." That's that, then.
It's obviously not much, but at least it's an acknowledgement of the ongoing project. At this point, we just hope that things aren't too messy behind the scenes. In the aforementioned 2022 update, there was talk of the game being primarily set in the digital world itself — the strange realm in which digimon reside — and we assume that's still the case.
