We're not actually sure when the next Digimon Story game was first announced, but we do know that it was years ago. Back in early 2022, Bandai Namco reassured fans that the title was still in development, and now, two whole years later, we're getting that same comment again.
As reported by Gematsu, the update was provided during Digimon Con 2024, with the series' producer commenting: "We apologise for keeping fans waiting, but we ask for your patience until we're ready to share more information." That's that, then.
It's obviously not much, but at least it's an acknowledgement of the ongoing project. At this point, we just hope that things aren't too messy behind the scenes. In the aforementioned 2022 update, there was talk of the game being primarily set in the digital world itself — the strange realm in which digimon reside — and we assume that's still the case.
Are you still waiting on the next Digimon World title? Carry on being a cyber sleuth in the comments section below.

It's taken nearly 13.8 billion years so far and it's still not ready!
2 years isn't long. Games don't get finished that fast anymore.
Would liked to see a remaster of Digimon world 1 through 3 or at least add the originals to plus premium
Nice I would prefer remasters/remakes of the older Digimon world games including the DS ones.
As much as I love the Cyber Sleuth games I would have loved them to have English dub as an option
I was looking at Digimon Survive yesterday. Maybe that can tide me over
@Americansamurai1
I’d love them to do both options to be honest
@PlatinumGamer
Non Digimon related but I love your profile pic of Brontu.
Really wish Unholy War would get a remaster
@McBurn It was first mentioned several years before then.
@ShogunRok My mistake then. Didn't do any research on this :/
I’m not waiting for it, but I’ll gladly play it whenever it comes out.
@McBurn No one could blame you for forgetting anyway — it was an age ago!
@McBurn Well presumably it's been in development close to the last Digimon Story game, which was in 2017. 2022 was the last update. 2 years might not be long, but 6 certainly is.
Is this a third in the Cyber Sleuth trilogy? Or just a brand new game completely separate from them?
I'd love a definitive World game; maybe the world and story of 1 and polished to an absolute sheen, remove the annoying time syncs and streamline to a wonderful gameplay loop. I love Digimon but the games just aren't for me sadly
@Ntennis37 So in Japan, the digimon games are split into three categories: Digimon World, Digimon Story and spin-offs. The spin-offs are all kinds of genres. Digimon World are monster-raisers where you spend more time training the monsters; you battle too, but they battles are typically more automatic. And there's Digimon Story which are typically turn-based Digimon RPGs with a detailed narrative. The Cyber Sleuth games were like, 5 and 6 (I think) of the Digimon Story games, they're just not typically called "Digimon Story" in America.
