EA will be raising the price of its subscription service, EA Play, starting from next month. According to GamesIndustry.biz, it isn't a massive increase, but as we all know, these prices are never coming back down.
EA Play's standard subscription tier is going from the current monthly price of $4.99 / £3.99 up to $5.99 / £5.99. Annually, however, the price increase is much more noticeable. It's jumping from $29.99 / £19.99 per year to $39.99 / £34.99 — which is reminiscent of the PS Plus price hike that was implemented in 2023.
Meanwhile, the more expensive EA Play Pro subscription is increasing from $14.99 / £14.99 to $16.99 / £16.99 per month. Annually, it's another more notable leap, going from $99.99 / £89.99 to $119.99 / £99.99.
All of this is set to come into effect from the 10th May, so you've got a month or so to weigh up your options.
For those who might not know, EA Play gives you access to a back catalogue of previously released EA titles, and is available on PS5 and PS4. Building on that, an EA Play Pro subscription allows access to new EA games at launch, and nets you various in-game rewards as an extra perk.
Are you at all surprised that EA Play's prices are going up? Are you an EA Play subscriber? Give your resub some thought in the comments section below.

Since when is a 50% increase (standard monthly) and 75% (annual) not a "massive increase" ? 🤯
Not surprising but on console at least, it doesn't offer enough to keep it monthly. I sign up when there's a game I want to play and cancel immediately after, Dead Space Remake being the last time. And they offered a €1 p/m offer when that got added
first they apprently cancel dead space 2 remake and then up the price of ea play not good ea not good
This price increase is justified because of:
Could not imagine supporting EA with a sub service.
Glad mine auto renewed last week. I totally forgot about it tbh. I won't be subscribing for another year. I fail to see how ea can give me anything new that can justify that extortionate price hike.
In Turkey its 1000% hehe
Hmmm wonder if GPU will have to
Go up a £ or 2 as EA play is part of it.
Good luck with that.
My price point for one month is 79p.
Genuinely forgot EA Play was even a thing
@jonnus " 50% increase (standard monthly) and 75% (annual) "
Curios to know where or how you got those numbers from, looks more like 20% or 33% to me, which I agree w/ the article isn't massive. It would probably have to double for me to call it massive though, even 50% at these prices I'd consider normal. 🤷♂️
@rjejr uk pound price change. I would still say 20% is bad. When was the last time you had a 20% pay rise? 😉
The article says increase is on May 10th but he price increase is now enabled on my end upon checking the PS store.
It was a bargain at 19.99, now not so much.
I don't like EA but I do like EA play ans use it across PC console and my steam deck so. I'll keep paying 8 suppose.....
@jonnus Pay raise? Never heard of it. 😁 But if you look at all the prices rising in similar things like PS+ and all the streaming services which are now raising prices like 2x a year I guess I don't see $1 more as a big deal. 🤷♂️
Now if you want to see a real price increase go look at the Disney Speedstorm free to play game trying to get people to pay like $30 every 2 months. 🤑

@rjejr £4 increasing to £6 is an increase of 50%. £2 is 50% of £4.
@BeerIsAwesome 8 years! Dam where did they go!?
@Nexozi Thanks. Those new numbers are so off balance from the old ones I don't think my brain was even registering it. Like I'm looking at it now thinking - How did I not see that before. 🤷♂️
Pretty sure that would be enough for me to quit.🤑
@rjejr Yea, its the .99 that subconsciously makes u think it's less. I remember reading about it somewhere years ago saying its a marketing ploy. Can get a bit more out of people without them noticing.
Edit: My sub is up in July so will def be cancelling.
@BeerIsAwesome Yea, def need to stop looking up how long ago things actually happened. I feel like I'll blink and I'll be holding a walking cane. 😭
@Nexozi No it wasn't the 99c, I'm a sociologist, subliminal messaging and all of that stuff is kinda my thing, what it was was how they jerked over anyone using the pound or euro, whichever one we're talking about.
Pretty sure my brain read:
$4.99 / £3.99 up to $5.99 / £5.99
as
$4.99 / £4.99 up to $5.99 / £5.99
and
$29.99 / £19.99 per year to $39.99 / £34.99
as
$29.99 / £29.99 per year to $39.99 / £34.99
and
$99.99 / £89.99 to $119.99 / £99.99
as
$99.99 / £99.99 to $119.99 / £119.99
That last one in particular b/c the one right before it is:
$14.99 / £14.99 to $16.99 / £16.99
How the @#$%^ does that make any sense?!?!?! Almost none of their numbers make any sense. 😜
Lmao 🤣 am sure EA Wil kiss Microsoft ass like ubisoft and add EA Pro on xbox while playstation gets pooo version ubisoft plus classics (LAME) while on pc and xbox ubisoft plus us separate from gamepass yes, but u get full tiers including day1 games don't on playstation while yes UB+ classics is part of ps plus extra and premium isn't full tier day1 games, as for EA PLAY it's or was part of gamepass while on playstation is separate and the pro tier isn't available on consoles. Price hike is greed
You haven't got until May 10th according to email from EA.
That states "This price increase will not take effect until your next renewal date that occurs on or after 11 June 2024. However, from today [10 Apr], any new subscription purchases will be charged at the new prices."
Annual sub price increase from £19.99 to £34.99 is certainly steep (what would it take for you to call it massive??!), although looking at the £ and $ prices, it looks like the £ one was originally under-priced compared to the other subscriptions - so I suspect there is also an element of rebalancing being done there.
@Czar_Khastik don't forget Brexit
@Andee @BeerIsAwesome Brexit, ah yes, thank you! I knew I was missing something. Although, I would have never guessed that 8 years passed since it, but we are just now experiencing the price increases. That's just how the market works.
@Andee my line of work has seen a 150% increase in wage growth since Brexit. Just saying. I voted remain btw.
EA play is part of Xbox game pass premium, guess EA could be eating that increase.
