Publisher Forever Entertainment is following up on last year's Front Mission 1st: Remake with the very same treatment for its sequel. Front Mission 2: Remake arrives for PS5 and PS4 on 30th April 2024 at a price of $34.99, and you can see it in action in the trailer above.
"Front Mission 2: Remake preserves the mature story, strategic turn-based combat, and Wanzer customization options of the original," the PS Store listing reveals. "Enjoy the revitalized classic with updated visuals and new features and enhancements!" Upgrades include faster load times, a new "free camera" option, a reworked soundtrack, more language options, and extra customisation settings.
Forever Entertainment has been releasing these Front Mission remakes on a staggered schedule, with the second iteration having already released on Nintendo Switch in October last year. It was met with significant criticism aimed at its poor AI systems, along with localisation issues.
Our sister site Nintendo Life awarded the title a 5/10 rating and said: "As with the first remake, we wanted to like Front Mission 2: Remake more than we did, since there are elements that are good. Even with a host of localisation issues and some obvious tropes, the story has some interesting facets, but the gameplay simply didn’t grip us, with the combat too reliant on random chance to make any amount of strategy work."
A remake of Front Mission 3 is also in the works. Are you interested in playing the second remake despite the apparent flaws it possesses? Let us know in the comments below.

Patiently waiting in my wanzer for the physical release.
I loved Front Mission, but I don't love it $34.99.
I'm just patiently waiting for the remake of the third game.
Still haven't gotten around playing the remake of the first, but I'm happy they're making these.

I hope it’s better than the Front Mission spin off Left Alive. I can confidently say that was the worst pre-order game experience I’ve ever had.
I'm assuming Nintendo Life will say the same thing about Front Mission 3 as well. I have it to play on my PS3 (if I had room to set it up). Is the random elements all they're complaining about? Loved getting ROFI, ROFII, ROFIII randomly followed by a punch attack. Loved the Imaginary Numbers music and fake Internet music too.
Waiting for the Trilogy Compilation
well, this is the first time that an english language option is available for front mission 2. not even the fan translation was completed all the way through so this is an exciting release. i don't expect the presentation to be great, but more front mission is only a good thing.
what is odd, however, is that s-e had nothing to do with the front mission remakes. not even as publisher. forever entertainment and storm tridant did the publishing/development duties here which makes me wonder if s-e still controls the IP or not.
@Oriion without question it is better on every level. keep in mind that front mission 2 and left alive are completely different genres of games made by different studios and they essentially have nothing in common. front mission 2 is a grid-based strategy game while left alive was a really bad action/stealth game that had no reason to exist in the first place.
I hope there's remakes of FM3 and FM4, as I played those mainly.
looking at the leap of gameplay improvements between 3 and 4, I don't see any reason to go try earlier installments.
also, there kinda is Front Mission 5..
I'd look more towards its re-release, as original, as I know, never got it to the West..
