Immortals of Aveum is making a second attempt, available this month via PlayStation Plus, and it seems developer Ascendant Studios still has a few magic tricks up its voluminous sleeve. Two patches are planned for the game, one which will add the now-expected HDR support and another which will add AMD's fancy new FSR 3 technology, marking the first time a console has employed the tech.
Digital Foundry has all the technical details and reports that the two updates are inbound. The first, patch 1.0.6.3, will add HDR support and is expected to roll out to consoles today. The next, 1.0.6.4, will add the more exciting FSR 3 and is expected "in just a few short weeks".
According to a press release: "Patch 1.0.6.4 will also extend FSR 3 support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs on both PC and consoles, which will improve frame pacing and reduce occurrences of judder or screen tears." FSR 3 technology purports to boost the frame rate of existing games by inserting newly generated, interpolated frames seamlessly, resulting in a smoother overall experience.
Are you intrigued enough to try out Immortals of Aveum if you skipped it the first time? What do you think of fancy FSR 3 technology coming to consoles? Let us know in the comments section below.

Sweet. Is this update launching when it comes to ps plus? I'm definitely gonna check this out.
I tried a trial of this game, I can't figure out why EA went all in on this one when nothing feels cool or satisfying.
Just started this today and its pretty dope.
It's a great no thrills, old school style shooter. Reminded me a little bit of hexen (ask your dad kids.) Game looks stunning in places and for a freebie it's well worth a look.
I wish they would add an update to make cutscenes shippable lol. Played a little over an hour of this tonight and can't be bothered to play anymore. Not for me, happy for those enjoying.
I bought it cheap and it’s actually a solid game. Definitely worth trying out.
@Ludacritz I’m sure AO3 will be able to provide for all your shipping needs, if it’s really a deal breaker.
The same Digital Foundry that said weeks ago that pro consoles won't be able to support frame generation, let alone the base?? And people STILL take their word for gospel lol
I did consider buying this back when it was coming out as I like a shooter and have been a big fantasy fan all my life, so pleased this is a freebie now. I actually quite enjoyed Forspoken which this sounds similar to, so I will be definitely giving this a try.
@Northern_munkey If they added the “Hand of god”, I’ll lol.
Bang average, worth a playthrough on Plus but not worth paying any money for.
@Professor_Niggle Their source is a press release from the developer, why so salty about DF?
I do wish they'd announce the release date for this patch as I'd like to play it but will hold off until it's updated.
Magic and VR are a good match. Why not differentiate from other games by adding a VR mode ? Sure, this will not sell millions of copies but there is a non negligible VR fan base. But, I suppose every penny has to be counted ...
@Rob3008 I see a lot of people base everything they do off of what DF say. They are highly analytical performance people just guessing, discussing and estimating things and it gets to me when people start spouting, "I did this because DF said this". I like their work and they say some things as fact and it is wrong sometimes, no actual hate towards them.
@Professor_Niggle Where did they say frame generation would be impossible? Just over a week ago they specifically acknowledged the possibility of using frame generation for GTA6; they just said it would be unlikely to transform a 30fps game to a 60fps one.
"Frame generation techniques could even be used to make those 60fps modes present nicely on 120Hz displays (sorry, but 30fps to 60fps is unlikely, owing to latency and artefacting challenges)."

It's installed but then I'll wait a few short weeks. I'm busy with rebirth and unicorn overlord anyways.
I really hope AMD's fancy new FSR 3 technology ends up being a good addition and lots more games add update patches for it. (fingers crossed)
@Loamy you right, you right 🤷♂️

I attach this video, timestamp: 52:55. Am I trippin? Yes, they don't explicitly say it is not supported, obviously it is as it is open source. However, they repeatedly say it falls short of the specs needed to run it and wouldn't work to a degree where its worth having on consoles.
Downloaded it but have yet to start it but might hold off now until the updates come.
Yep, FSR3 (especially with Frame Generation) is amazing on PC. It made wonders in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora.
Downloaded it last night, I liked what I played so far. Definitely will play more.
World art and detail are fantastic. Bought the $5 upgrade just for the Digital Artist efforts. Give them a bit more cash for the PS+ release.
I liked Gina Torres in Suits and Westworld. Great to see her in a game
@DennisReynolds it's a good game and well worth a playthrough. The only gripe I had with it is that the pic is quite soft. Looks stunning in places even though the resolution is soft and its feckin' loud..I mean really loud.
@sonicmeerkat i deleted the game during the elevator scene.
Was going to download, but guess I’ll wait now. Bad timing to have not released this just before making it free to everyone.
