Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, has passed comment about Xbox's increased presence on other platforms. Speaking during an earnings call, he said how titles under the Xbox umbrella have been selling rather well on PlayStation Store.
"Earlier this month, we had seven games among the top 25 on the PlayStation Store, more than any other publisher," Nadella said. As VGC points out, it seems he may be referring to a recent report from Tweaktown, which outlines the 25 bestselling games on Sony's digital storefront — as of 18th April, at least. When you include titles published by Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision — all now owned by Microsoft, of course — the data showed that it had even more games in the top 25 than Sony, with seven games to five.
PS Store's bestsellers list updates daily, however, and will differ by region, meaning the information is constantly in flux. At the time of writing, for example, the European top 25 contains six Microsoft-owned titles in different positions.
Nadella added that Microsoft is "committed to meeting players where they are by bringing great games to more people on more devices". We imagine that, based on how well some of its recently ported titles are doing on PlayStation, we may see more make the jump in the future.
It's also worth noting the explosive resurgence of Fallout, which will certainly be part of Microsoft's success story here. Fallout 76 is among the bestsellers, while a PS5 version of Fallout 4 was also recently released.

It's funny to think Xbox has the most highly played games on the PlayStation Store than PlayStation themselves....life works in mysterious ways I guess.
Im very glad we get to try what Xbox has to offer on PlayStation even if that means us paying Microsoft in order for them to keep funding GamePass for Xbox gamers....it's only fair game.
I see you Microsoft Flight Simulator. Come on over to the dark side mate.
So thats what won this weeks internal Microsoft slogan-of-the-week competition, tune in on 3rd May to see next weeks spin 🤣
Fallout 4 cost €5.00 there for a few days, so that didn't do any harm. I thought I was done with that franchise too but the TV show was really enjoyable and reminded me of what I loved about the lore back in the day.
I started playing 4 again last night, but I'll probably leave it for now until I'm done with the backlog.
I haven’t bought any of them yet. I have slight interest in Pentiment, but not enough to buy at this time.
From their back catalogue Gears of War might be worth a try and I’ve always been curious about Fable. But the main Xbox games I’m prone to buy are a couple in development — Hellblade 2 and Indiana Jones.
I'd love to get that Gears of War Ultimate Edition, play a little Team Deathmatch on Gridlock for old times sake
I picked up Hi-Rush...but unfortunately didn't really click with it. Maybe it's because I just played the Stellar Blade demo before playing it and I got more excited to play that. I might give it another shot down the line.
Still this is good news for Playstation. I was going to pick up an Xbox for Hellblade 2 soon but with news like this I feel fairly confident that will make it over to PS5 someday. I got enough to play while I wait as well.
All for the low price of 80+ billion lol
Can Microsoft really claim credit for half of those games though? It's not like Call of Duty was a little indie game that flourished under their ownership
@LowDefAl xbox better be releasing more than Sony. They have bought up 3x the number studios PS has and even more so if you take away Sony’s support teams and nixes for pc porting.
@LowDefAl :
"Given that most players on Xbox would have used GP"
That's the reason Microsoft needs other platforms to sell their games in order to keep the games at no additional cost with GamePass.
I don't see the problem with that, if someone wants to buy those games on PlayStation or plays them on GamePass it's a matter of choice and thankfully we have plenty of choices.
Almost every game on the list is a successful established ip they bought. Unsurprisingly, only 1 of the 7 listed began development under their ownership.
F off MS, trying to make out you make games. It's been decades since you've reliably released high quality titles with any kind of regularity.
Playing and loving Hi Fi Rush on PS5.
I have bought Pentiment too on Switch but didn't keep me up until the end.
Not interested in SoT and Grounded, but i'm happy that Xbox games are living a second life on PS/Switch. I think it's time to become a multiplatfrom publisher for real with D1 games
Release Quantum Break on Ps. Been craving more Remedy goodness since the masterpiece that was Alan Wake 2. The only one of their games I haven't played. (Okay, apart from Death Rally).
“Meeting players where they actually buy games.”
I would have bought Hi-fi rush in this sale if Stellar Balde hadn’t come out.
I would love to see if they make more money on other platforms then their own. Now release Hellblade 2 physical on Playstation that would be really fun. The funny thing is i bought on of their releases from LRG. 🤣
There are actually very few Xbox titles I have interest in and none of them are currently on PS. However if Gears of War, Halo, Sunset Overdrive or maybe even Quantum Break ever make it to PS I will definitely be all over those.
I don't buy into this whole Microsoft becoming a third party publisher farce. It's pretty clear what they are doing, they are bringing smaller titles to playstation so it eases the pressure on their next multi billion acquisition and it's why I won't be buying any games they bring over.
If they bring over Starfield, Halo, Gears, Fable etc then I will believe it.
@LowDefAl Undersold in Asia at least. In HK and Japan it didn't crack the first 5 pages on Best Selling list.
I guess the advantages of being able to buy the biggest Third party publishers and their humongous catalogues has their advantages. Yay for acquisitions!
The actual info that interested me is without ABK Xbox saw only 1% growth in revenue. They are in dire need of a better strategy quick.
@UltimateOtaku91
If they release Senua's Saga: Hellblade II on PS5 with a physical release, I will believe it.
For all the Microsoft-published games people are saying they would buy on PlayStation if they were ported over, it would probably cheaper to buy a used Series S (or in some cases just a cheap X1) and get a couple months of Game Pass to play said games.
Just sayin'.
Cool.the new doom or they should make a new evil within or dishonered 3.word up son
Gimme dat KILLER INSTINCT ill keep the online alive by myself Phil lmao
Seriously I haven't had an Xbox since 2016 and I think I've done more promo for KI than MS has lol
@BeerIsAwesome Absolutely, but I would never suggestion Cloud as an absolute solution - great option in a pinch, though!
Microsoft bought 2 Publishers in order to achieve this. Microsoft buys their success. I am not impressed by this fraudulent feat. PlayStation and Nintendo gamers buy and support games.
This must throw cold water on the 'console wars' somewhat?
@MegaManX-7 I absolutely adore Quantum Break. Wonderful game.
@NxtDoc Not this again. Sony buy studios. Sony buy games. Sony would have bought a publisher if they could afford to. Microsoft were making games well before Sony.
@GamingFan4Lyf That's if any of them actually wants game pass. I've had game pass and I have no desire to go back and resubscribe.
@theSpectre Sure, but if you are looking to play every Halo, every Gears, Forza, every Fable, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, every Crackdown, etc., it might be more economically sound to subscribe to play them all over the course of a few months (and then unsubscribe) than to outright buy every one (which, yes, you can still do on Xbox).
Clearly, even people here want to enjoy "the staples", so why not try to take the most economical approach to doing so - especially if Xbox isn't your primary platform of choice?
Keep it up guys! I'm sure PS will get Starfield, Indiana Jones, hellblade 2 etc eventually if they continue seeing their games do well on psn store
@MrBook Decisions made during X1 era caused a huge shift towards PlayStation. Those gamers amass game libraries on PS4 profiles that transferred to PS5.
The need to switch didn't make sense - especially those who only play Fortnite, sports titles, COD, etc.
PlayStation became the habitual gaming purchase due to X1 irrelevance.
First-party drought for the first couple of years of Series console release.
Now, with the decision to publish a few first-party games on PlayStation have got people questioning even buying the console at all.
But mostly, losing so bad with X1 basically got the snowball rolling that Microsoft is desperately trying to stop from growing, but can't.
@WizzNL I could see rare replay with Kameo port over to ps. I think that would sell very well
When you purchase two of the largest publishers in the industry, then yeah I guess there will be lots of "Xbox" games on the PS store
The dichotomy of console wars amuses me. Every Xbox fan thread is about "MS is going third party, it's only a matter of time, Xbox is dooooomed!" and every PS fan thread is about "They're going to only put a few old games on PS and keep everything else exclusive, and buy the rest of the industry, I see through their lies!"
How two different subgroups of the same exact hobby playing mostly the same exact games can have such polar opposite views on the very basics of things is astounding. Combined with politics there's got to be a sociology study to be had in this somewhere.
Come on then Satya where’s flight sim and forza?
@__jamiie Justify this misleading headline however you'd like. It's a evidence based fact. Microsoft bought 2 publishers to achieve this. You used a what about-ism regarding Sony. Without the Zenimax, and ABK acquisitions Xbox would be in a well earned free fall. Time will tell if MS nose dives ABK just like several of their other purchases.
@itsfoz still one the most impressive looking games on consoles
@Korgon I found hi fi gets better once you start clicking with the rhythm in combat took me while
No Hellblade 2? Then I couldn't care less.
@Kanji-Tatsumi same for the Sony studios Sony bought
@Th3solution gears is a fantastic series
Meh. None of them interest me. Give us Halo or Gears of War, then maybe we can talk..
@Toot1st not quite the same, the games that were the reason to buy studios like Returnal for Housemarque, Spiderman for Insomniac and the remakes for Blue Point were games Sony paid for and in the case of the remakes and Spiderman games that wouldn't exist without sony. There is a big difference between that and buying Bethesda because they have the most famous western rpg or Activision for Call of Duty.
Bungie is the only company they have bought that already got important ips before the acquisition and if Destiny 2 final dlc results to be a big hit NO ONE is going to credit Sony for that lol.
@OnlyGaming not that surprising if you think that MS released 2 games services in a span of a couple months, Hifi is already at discount, fallout had the push of the series and is on ps plus extra and the other MS games are services already popular on PS like Call of Duty or Overwatch.
Conveniently this report was before Stellar Blade, after FF and the complete dominance of Helldivers 2 lol.
@NxtDoc And feel free to ignore my evidence based facts to support your own argument. Without Guerilla, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Bend, Bluepoint, Housemarque and Media Molecule, what would Sony have to offer. Time will tell whether Sony tank some of those studios like they did with Japan Studios and others.
@GymratAmarillo So are you saying PlayStation doesn't have any other games that can carry the brand?
Well there's always Xbox to help.
"Wait, Satya... thought we had agreed on 'just these four'" lol
@UltimateOtaku91 Just look a little further away...
@OnlyGaming LOL that's the position you want to take based in what I said? Perfect for me.
No. What I'm saying is that the source this news used put rules to read the original report and one of those rules was the PS charts change day by day and the report was made based in that specific day. All that I already said is what happened around that day.
-So sony didn't have NEW or HYPED games that specific day to "carry the brand"? No.
-Should sea of thieves or grounded being considered as new games from MS? Those games have years out. They are only new for a new audience but it's not like MS out of no were released 7 new games in a year. Actually they have released more games for PS this year than for Xbox.
-Should Call of Duty or Overwatch being considered as successful MS games? Yes because now they own them but they didn't become successful on PS after the acquisitions. They had years being a success.
-Should any of those games being considered as games that "carry the brand"? Well ... when those games were released xbox didn't sell like crazy and GP isn't growing like crazy now that they own Activision so I would say not yet.
Now, you are talking about help but I wonder help to who exactly? We all know the 4 games broke exclusivity because MS wanted the money. Sony was doing everything to end the Activision acquisition, why not making Activision games exclusives? Maybe because Activision makes the most money on PS? Maybe ... Sure if MS makes them exclusive Sony would lose a billion in revenue but there were years where they lost more than one billion specially in the movies department, did that stop Sony from making movies? No.
So one has to wonder who exactly needs more help, the guy who is used to good and bad years because of ***** movies or the guy who is doing "everything right" and yet the most successful part of his business is selling products to "the competition". Right?
@Kanji-Tatsumi They can claim credit for these games in a financial sense, but most definitely not in a creative one.
And that's what I hate about Microsoft. It's a soulless money making machine.
Look, I'll be the last one to parade the anti-capitalist mumbo-jumbo. Companies exist to turn a profit first and foremost, but that just can't be your only reason to exist. Cause that ends up reflecting on your products, apart from the few exceptions that just happen to prove the rule.
I've been saying for years that they would figure this out eventually lol. They're all great games and I'm about to pick up HiFi Rush and Pentiment on sale to boot. The only one I'm not excited about is Sea of Thieves cause I only solo mate and from my experience with it on GP that's not much fun
Good old Microsoft throwing money around and then take credit before they actually influence said games
@MrBook It's been a steady decline for years. This isn't new.
Would be a lot more pertinent and credible if Microsoft had actually made those games, not just bought the companies after they had already been released years ago.
Call of Duty was the best selling franchise when Microsoft used to buy COD exclusivity off Activision for the Xbox360. So tell me how COD among quite a few others games are "Microsoft first-party" game's? COD IP is only owned by Microsoft. It would be like saying Destiny 2 is a Sony first-party game which obviously isn't the case.
Now give us gears of war 1-3 collection & halo mcc collection microsoft, I'll be there day one on ps5
😃
@OnlyGaming exactly, I mean realistically both Xbox and Sony could make their first party game free on their respective flagship consoles with a Gamepass system and then sell those same games on PC and the opposite console that way the loyal fans still buy said console for the free games and other games can still buy I actually think this will be the way the gaming landscape goes in the next decade, Microsoft is already showing that it can be done and ots successful and Sony is having huge player numbers on their PC releases

It looks like Xbox "consoles" are going to be GAME OVER at the end of this generation.
Bring Ori: The Collection to PlayStation and I'll be a happy camper.
I’ll give one thing to Xbox, they know how to spin!
I guess we can take this as confirmation they'll bring more games over and Xbox consoles will somehow become even more irrelevant than they already are.
Incredible spin. Almost all those games were already on PlayStation without Microsoft and those that were not, like Hi-Fi Rush, would have been if not for Microsoft's meddling. They absolutely deserve the huge decline in Xbox sales they are experiencing.
@Gamestation You certainly see the point... sadly most people closes their mind to that idea.
Until they confirm the next Elder Scrolls is coming, refuse to get excited. Still, guessing there will be more because it’s been going well so far.
@Americansamurai1 They'll make it all back and then some, gauranteed.
@HamKnight And also how to invest. : )
@kirkn Consoles will be a thing of the past. Mark my words.
@__jamiie Another what aboutism. This is about Microsoft gloating their "success" on other platforms.
It'd be one thing if the games they put on there were all long established Xbox IP. But most are not, and it's laughable.
Also, developers and publishers are not the same.
Yeah, you're right. We will see. Because to some fans like you, many of you like to lump Japan Studio's niche (but quality) products together as if they are on the level of a Halo, (which was bigger than COD at one point) Gears, Fable, and tanking a whole brand (which Xbox is arguably at its lowest point ever).
Talking to closed minded people like you isn't worth the time to type. Which will be my last to you.
@DukeeDukems maybe in 30 years
@NxtDoc Yet you decided to type. I also like how, once again, you decided to ignore facts. Pretty much every first party PlayStation game that people love, has been developed by a studio Sony has bought. That's a fact. I don't actually see anything wrong with that at all. That's the nature of business and console manufacturers trying to obtain exclusive content. What I do disagree with, is the perception that Sony are some benevolent games industry saviour who only do things the right way, and only think of the players. They didn't try to stop the ABK buyout for the good of gamers. They did it to secure their own position and profits. And, I repeat, if they could have afforded to do the same thing then they would have.
And calling me close minded because I don't agree with you is the epitome of closed mindedness. I own a PlayStation, an Xbox and many other systems. I'm not blinded by the lights of my DualSense to be biased towards one system or another.
Saying stuff like this is getting excuses in early when they end up realising pretty much every IP they own on PS5
Microsoft are pathetic glory-hunting idiots
Does this mean they could also bring over The outer worlds 2 and avowed?
@UltimateOtaku91 well do you believe it now? Indy a few months after release.
