If the new Alone in the Dark PS5 reboot has given you a classic survival horror itch, then Sony's subscription service PS Plus Premium is looking to scratch it. Available from Tuesday, 16th April 2024, the old PS1 terror Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare will be available to members on the top tier, complete with all the bells and whistles that come with the re-releases Sony accepts on the service. It's joined by MediEvil and Star Wars: Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire on the same day.
Like most PS Plus Premium versions, you should expect Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare to ship with new quality-of-life features like save states, rewind functionality, video filters, and potentially a Trophy list to pursue. Since this is a third-party release, new digital trinkets aren't a guarantee, unfortunately. We'll share word if a Trophy list is spotted.
First released for PS1 in 2001, the game received a muted response critically, with most verdicts hovering around the 6 or 7/10 range. While the title was actually ported to PS2 in Europe, the PS Plus Premium version will be what's found on the original PS1. Are you going to try The New Nightmare 23 years later? Let us know in the comments below.

Fun selection you can buy these games cant you?
@Flaming_Kaiser Yes you can buy them individually thank goodness. I wish Nintendo would follow suit.
We haven't got any trophies for these classics for third party titles, so definitely wouldn't hold my breath.
Waiting eagerly for this! It will be a huge nostalgia trip down the memory lane. Had tons of fun playing with friends and younger brother back in the day. Finally something in Deluxe/ Premium I can look forward to 😀
They should add the PS2 version of alone in the dark.
The PS1 version is just horrible.
Never played it at the time, it was overshadowed by RE as i recall. But enough with the so called premium offerings, many of us are still waiting on Vagrant Story to name just one.
Another awful selection.
Another release of MediEvil, huh? Alone in the Dark is neat, but Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill or Parasite Eve would be more exciting horror ports for many. Also, where are the PS2 and PS3 games?! More power to whoever feels they're getting their money's worth for Premium, but I would love a reason to subscribe and justify the recent price hike.
I vaguely seem to recall being extremely annoyed with that Star Wars game, but being able to rewind it might make it more tolerable.
@AsterZero, indeed. Bring back Squaresoft 😆
@AK4tywill Then i rather do that. I never understood why they dont release some classic games physical with a retro themed case. Legend of Dragoon that would be awsome.
@Flaming_Kaiser I would be all over those and have long had a similar thought. The 'boutique blu ray' scene (Criterion, Arrow etc.) is huge and largely untapped in gaming. Limited run are probably the closest, but Sony have the resources and IP to make some serious money by selling physical copies of older games from their library complete with art/bts booklets. It's an untapped money-maker.
@AK4tywill You know with Wipeout they had a sleeve that looked like a PS1 case that alone was awsome.
