The PS5 remake of Silent Hill 2 has taken one step closer to its reported 2024 release as the ESRB has handed the title a Mature age rating. Generally awarded near the completion of a game's development, the USA firm warns of blood and gore, language, sexual themes, and violence throughout the experience from Bloober Team. A trailer published by Sony at the start of 2024 pegged Silent Hill 2 with a 2024 release window, and this new update could signal that's still on the cards.
The description published by the ESRB goes on to provide a brief overview of what's to come from Konami: "This is a horror adventure game in which players assume the role of a man returning to a mysterious town while being tormented by his past. From a third-person perspective, players explore the town of Silent Hill, interact with characters, and battle humans and creatures (e.g., Pyramid Head, mannequins, monsters).
It then calls out specific violent scenes, like characters being impaled, another person suffocated to death with a pillow, and enemies with body parts sewn onto them. There are then strip club scenes with characters pole-dancing, and then separately, dialogue discussing one's sexuality and abuse. Finally: "The word sh*t appears in the game."

If there's a showcase in May then might be one of the announcements.
Can’t wait! Would be nice if it released over the summer when there aren’t many other releases.
I so hope Bloober didn't mess this up.
Third party, timed exclusive… um no thanks /s
I have a feeling the word "sh*t" will appear in a few reviews as well.
@dschons I do not have faith in Bloober I'm afraid. I fear this will be a case of wondering what a team like Bluepoint may have done while playing.
@AK4tywill I have less of an issue with Bloober when it comes to the technical aspects. I bet this game will look fantastic. However, they claim to take inspiration from psychological horror games such as Silent Hill, but execute it so poorly in their other games. Apparently, the Konami team has had a close eye on this project, but I still remain very skeptical.
That screenshot you chose for the article doesn't give me hope. I really want this to be good.
I'm expecting a Halloween release.
Hopefully it turns out alright, not expecting anything like Resident evil 2 remake but if they keep the feel of the original it could be playable.
I really liked The Medium, so I have faith that this will turn out to be decent.
It's silent hill 2. It's not like we don't know what to expect.
The start of the game is slow and the combat is not the focus. Ofc there will be mixed reviews.
If you liked silent hill before you will like it though.
@Nem Disagree. There's a lot that can be messed up in the minute details that made the originals so special.
People have been painting the devil on the wall since it's reveal, without any substantial reason as of why, except that they can't get over "why is bloober making it and not bluepoint".
Is this an April Fools Day joke!?! Please let it be real (and good!)
@dschons I hope yall don't whine and complain when it's out
@Undeadcop Maybe. We'll see.
@Undeadcop i hope people don’t shill and brown nose also
Bloober gets a bad rap in my opinion. Confident this will be good.
lol to all of the disturbing things in the game, followed by “and it contains the word sh*t”.
TRULY TERRIFYING!!
I enjoyed the Medium, and remain hopeful that this remake will be the shining moment where they (Bloober) finally hit the big time. We shall see!
Nurses are the worst.
@dschons I find it difficult. If you go and play it today you will see it didn't age very well.
Unless you mean bugs and crashes. Sure, that would be bad.
Please please please don’t mess this game up…..
@Nem what this game needs to nail more than anything is the atmosphere, which consists of so much more than mere gameplay and optics. The sound design, the tone in the voices of the characters, when silence is used and when it is not and the interplay between sound and camera angles etc. Silent Hill 2 is a very delicate game in that regard and Bloober has tried to somewhat imitate this in their games in the past, but it was very poorly executed. I truly hope Konami and former staff of the originals truly had a close eye on this project as they claimed.
@dschons If you watch the official trailer, it looks pretty decent tbh, if you watch the footage they, bizarrely, released for state of play you'd think it was terrible.
@mkr With the newest gameplay they didn't do themselves a favor due to the heavy focus on combat, making it seem like that's the priority. That said, the scenes shown were authentic and the very few examples where you're actually fighting "hordes" in the original as well. I can't wrap my head around whey they made those parts the spotlights though. Also, terrible gun sounds.
@nomither6 what?
@dschons oh yall will with yalls track record
@Undeadcop sure bud, sure.
@dschons is Tamera home?
@Undeadcop No, Tamara is though.
@dschons are you sure?
@Undeadcop Yes.
@dschons but you are home
@Undeadcop No.
@dschons now praise God and praise the innocent and unity
@Undeadcop OK, will do. See you in a month.
