The latest Japanese software charts are in, giving us a look into the sales figures of recent releases like Stellar Blade and Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. To start with, Stellar Blade, the PS5 exclusive from South Korean developer Shift Up, debuted at the summit, selling just over 67,100 physical copies. Relatively speaking, that's not a bad result, but it's worth noting that these charts are counting the last two weeks of sales. As such, the action title certainly hasn't blown up in the way some may have anticipated.
Meanwhile, robust RPG Eiyuden Chronicles would have only missed out on the top spot by a tiny margin if sales numbers were combined across all platforms. The Nintendo Switch version sold best at 46,700 copies — in second place — with the PS5 edition trailing with 19,400 copies in fifth. The gap between the two versions is perhaps a little surprising, although there is clearly a dedicated JRPG audience on Nintendo's hybrid console.
And on the hardware side of things, the PS5 continues to sell fairly well. The current-gen machine is incredibly close to breaking the 6 million milestone, which it should reach within the next week or two.

Well again without Digital Sales data you can't really say if a game has had a disappointing debut or not based solely on physical data. I think the game has done good since non Japanese games don't tend to fair well anyway in japan, you would think Eiyuden Chronicle would have done better.
Interesting discrepancy of hardware sales numbers between NintendoLife and PushSquare:
Switch OLED Model – 72,592 (7,195,696)
PlayStation 5 – 43,033 (4,808,908)
Switch Lite – 16,247 (5,833,845)
Switch – 11,199 (19,786,390)
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 6,501 (767,403)
Xbox Series X – 2,982 (271,121)
Xbox Series S – 2,353 (310,852)
PlayStation 4 – 202 (7,925,781)
@GamingFan4Lyf The ones shown on NintendoLife are correct.
@UltimateOtaku91 I would hope so - especially as they're more favorable in the PlayStation department than the numbers posted here. 😅
@GamingFan4Lyf Lol, they're the same numbers on Gematsu and Famitsu so I don't know where this site is pulling those numbers from.
@UltimateOtaku91 @GamingFan4Lyf Copied the wrong chart by mistake — that was actually the chart from two weeks ago which I was cross-referencing. Fixed now!
@ShogunRok So...in other words..."Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V" messed you up! 😅
@GamingFan4Lyf A disgraceful performance tbh.
@ShogunRok Meh, blame Windows - it's easier!
Well it isn't a Japanese game so that's actually pretty decent and it was 10 days of sales not 2 weeks, Push. 👍
Stellar blade is disappointing? How many non-Japanese games make first place in the entire year?
Just checked, Bayonetta 3 did 51,715 in its first 2 weeks on a console with 5x the install base and a much higher physical sales userbase.
Nice to see Eiyuden doing well, just a shame the creator isn’t here to see its success.
67K is mediocre at best for how much this game was hyped. I’m curious as to what it sold worldwide.
Eiyuden’s added totals are within a thousand copies of Stellar Blade. Not a bad debut for a project like this! Neither game clicked with me, but I’m really happy to Eiyuden, as a final passion project for its creator, having the success it’s getting. Love when the creatives and auteurs of the industry are enabled to succeed.
@ChrisDeku This isn’t a Japanese game but it’s clearly inspired by them. Not convinced when plenty of Japanese devs posted about it and praised it also.
Considering how physical PS5 software performs in Japan, I think it did pretty well to be honest.
Not sure what good sales numbers are or aren't, but if you can't manage to sell cartoon sex in Japan, stick a fork in it, gaming's done. See you all on Hookshot's newest site, XtremeKnitting.com.
Was there not an article talking about how Stellar Blade sold out in Japan?
@Yorozayu Ur wrong, Crosstitcher.com has so much higher detail patterns. CrochetCorner.com is just for casuals.
@Yorozayu Oh, not cross-stitcher.com, crossstitcher.com. Cross-stitcher was bought out by QuiltLovers.com which was bought out by DarnDarners.com but the whole suite was bought out by FlyFishingWorld which was owned by MotorHeads ,but after the whole saltwater goldfish fiasco, the whole thing was shut down, and the original owner of cross-stitcher.com started the new Crosstitcher.com.
WeaversWorldofWonderousWares.com is ok, but I only go there for the exclusive wickers.
This news is weird.
Some sites are saying it was a success and started at first in Japan, but here is saying it was disappointing.
Anyway, the game is amazing, I'll start a ng+ this weekend.
@Vault_Mcfly
I'd say for a new, non-Japanese developed IP on a console that isn't overly popular there it's actually a pretty good debut. I never expected Stellar Blade to light up sales charts to be honest, it's geared towards a specific audience. Worldwide sales will tell the full story. As long as it was budgeted properly, if it can mange 2-3 mil, that should hopefully make it profitable enough to get a sequel.
Those are not bad numbers for eiyuden.
Actually doing quite well.
9:1 PlayStation to Xbox. Appropriate.
As per Genki JPN the game is out of stock with many retailers. Might be that they didn't assume such high numbers. 67k for a new IP from KOREA (a place Japanese people have a lot of messy history with) is really good imo
43k for playstation is pretty good after the last few weeks have been really low. Cost is still too high for many to buy (60000 yen is a lot in an economy where salaries and spending are low)
I bought Stellar Blade as a pre-order physical release. Well worth it for me at least.
Absolutely loved the game. Its hardest fight was the last battle by far (which it should be). But it was a lot of fun. Combat is fluid and not overly complex. One aspect was clearly influenced by “Spartan Rage” in GoW which was fine 😂 Idc about the censorship stuff because I wasn’t interested in this game for the horny horny 😈😈 aspect. I kinda liked that there weren’t 100s of characters in it as well. Focused mainly on the 3 protagonists which worked very well. You got enough depth with all of them to understand their views and personality. Story wasn’t anything revolutionary. But not every developer has A+++ story tellers. Still no excuse, but whatever
Only major flaw (to me) is any swimming section where you had to push boards in the water. Or just water sections in general. Some terrible controls would get Eve stuck. It really isn’t a major flaw but just something that was terrible to deal with It also sucked when I’d fall somewhere and die that I couldn’t just use a WB pump to respawn at that spot I fall from. Minor gripe though
Overall, loved my first play through of it. Waiting for NG+ because they’ll eventually release DLC. Plus more suits.
@CWill97 Platforming is quite fiddly in general but there isn't too much of it so far so it is okay but otherwise that's my only gripe so far.
Iirc 67000 copies for a ps5 exclusive is a good stat in Japan. Plus apparently shops were running out of Stellar Blade, so the true test is weeks 2 onwards.
The fact that we are in 2024 and these reports don't include digital sales is whack. The reports are basically moot. Digital sales are a substantial part of the picture these days.
This headline is pretty dissapointing, and symtomatic of a continuing desire by push square to try and belittle the achievements of a platform they should be supporting imo.
The 10 day sales of Stella blade are excellent for a game of this type and give PS5 another topselling game in a market where Nintendo has such a huge install base.
As for pointing out a new game shifts more units on a platform with such a massive install base advantage - why is that headline news?
Please Push, give us the news without false doom?
Honestly Eiyuden Chronicle is better then Stellar Blade, that should been on top but I'm glad Eiyuden Chronicle is on top list sales.
