A new report suggests that Microsoft's big boss, Satya Nadella, wants to bring more Xbox games to PlayStation as soon as possible. With the instant success Sea of Thieves found on Sony's platform, considered a "key test," it seems like the writing is on the wall at this point; Microsoft leadership reportedly wants there to be no "red line," nothing at all stopping the company's most valuable IP, like Halo and Gears of Wars, from coming to competing platforms.
That's according to Windows Central, with Jez Corden reporting that an operation known internally as "Latitude" is underway (thanks, Eurogamer). This operation plans to bring more Xbox IP to PlayStation and Nintendo, which is part of Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase the margins in every department. The plan, pushed by Microsoft leadership, intends for no "red line" internally or nothing to be off the table when pursuing the initiative. This directive has reportedly sparked "debate and unease" within the company, and more Microsoft-owned games are already under consideration to come over to PlayStation.
Are you surprised to see how fast this entire situation is developing? What titles do you think make the most sense to come over next? Let us know in the comments section below.

I'm down. Id happily purchase ports of Killer Instinct and Gears Of War.
Halo 1-3 mcc collection and gears 1-3 collection here I come 😃
Blinx the cat repawstered day one baby!!
The bill on nearly $80b in acquisitions is coming due
In all seriousness, I'd like to see Starfield on PlayStation and basically all future projects from their acquired studios, like Double Fine, inXile, Obsidian, etc. Basically everyone except Activision.
I'd be shocked if more Xbox games weren't deep in development for PlayStation at this point. 343 Industries were already said to have PS5 dev kits so watch this space I guess.
Good night Sweet Xbox, you were my pride and joy during my teenage years.
Does mean that Xbox will have ps5 pro dev kits
I'm can't wait for the Melt down. Next month is Xbox showing tell and I bet we hear what the next PS5 games will be.
I figure that the June Xbox showcase will have a load of PS announcements meanwhile the June Nintendo Direct has a segment dedicated to more Rare games coming to Switch (including Diddy Kong Racing).
This isn’t even slightly surprising. I am sure that by the end of the year there will be a Starfield announcement, Hellblade 2 will be on the way and (hopefully) games like Forza Horizon and Gears will have been announced. I said it a while back and got shredded, but I genuinely can’t see Microsoft launching too many future Xbox consoles before they are entirely 3rd party.
It's been wild to witness what ingesting ABK has done to Xbox's fundamental existence as a console brand.
Forza Horizon and Flight Simulator are the two I’d buy without hesitation. I’d probably get Starfield as well.
I hope Hellblade comes because I did enjoy the original.
Fanboys love to praise Phil but his shoddy leadership has led Xbox to a place where Halo will no doubt appear on PS5, that's a massive failure.
@KillerBoy The idea that Xbox games will be best played on PS5 is just hilarious.
Believe it when i see it.
Starfield would be my choice. I don't see a loss for Microsoft or Sony to have thier games on other platforms. Wait 1 to 2 years and the fomo will be gone and anyone that bought a system for said game most likely would have bought within that time frame. Then the companies just get to reap the sales.
Why even have an "Xbox Leadership" at this point if these decisions are just going to get dictated by Corporate?
Oh well, it wouldn't be the first time I saw a console maker become a third-party publisher.
I follow Gears of War news like crazy as it’s in my top 3 gaming franchises ever. From a few guys that cover Gears that i trust. They said the Collection 1-3 using unreal engine 5 is coming to PS5 and Series consoles. Should be announced during the showcase and that Gears 6 is being touted by people that seen it as the best looking video game ever made graphics wise. Have to wait and see but June isn’t to far away.
@get2sammyb Forza Horizon with Dualsense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers would be amazing.
@get2sammyb FS2020 or 2024?
@DennisReynolds They will be with PS5 Pro. 😆
The CEO of MS watching that 4 year old Ghost of Tsushima is selling more than Hellblade 2 on steam:
"So ... when exactly is the ps5 port ready?"
LOL
Gears of War and Halo in a box with a PS5 printed will feel very cheap and yet I would buy it.
Flight Simulator with PSVR2 support would be nice. I’d probably purchase a fully beta tested Starfield as well.
@XenonKnight The most recent one I guess.
so whens playstation games going to xbox?
@breakneck
My understanding is that the vast majority of Series consoles out there are Series S.
@nomither6
Destiny and MLB The Show!
@HonestHick gears 6 could have the highest of highest polygons on the screen and raytracing thats as strong as gamma rays but if it still looks like a shiny cartoon then it aint the best imo. Gears 2 still has the best graphics "for a gears of war" game. gears 4/5 is too clean and vibrant.
have you ever seen this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JalWT8oNxhk ?
@lacerz during FTC trial, they noted that corca 75% of series consoles were s models then. Imagine they finally moved more x models but i would probably still put it at 65/35 for the s
@get2sammyb FS2024 isn't out yet.
@nomither6 probably never, the only reason why sony's able to get into the pc market is because they hired a developement team to just focus on pc ports
@XenonKnight I haven't been following. Is FS2024 a new game, then, or is it just an updated version of FS2020?
@get2sammyb updated version with new things.
@nomither6 i prefer the original trilogy way way more than 4 & 5.
I would take the Marcus Fenix collection over Gears 6 if i had to choose just one. Xbox players are going to smoke PS users on gears. It’s a game that takes a while to get good at. I’ll enjoy the free kills. Yeah I’ve seen it. 😀
Considering people's jobs are on the line now, this is the right move.
This is the result of massive spending (Bethesda & AKB acquisitions) unsupported by steady return on sales of consoles and games (they have trained their audience not to buy games after all).
It’s a little sad to see this unfold; I still remember playing Halo CE for the first time on the OG Xbox. It was amazing at the time!
But the leadership at Xbox has just not been up to scratch for a decade or more now, and that’s why we see these talks of Master Chief, Marcus Fenix & Co on Playstation. The business reality is finally kicking in.
@MadCaptain2207 had they stopped at ZeniMax it wouldn't be a problem. When you choose to spend 70 billion for AKB the CFO going to find ways to cut spending big time. And there will be more spending cuts.
I'll happily take the gears games as I loved the first 3 games but never played past 3. I'd love forza and the halo games as well. The only issue I'd have is finding the time to play them all.
What a mess Xbox is in right now, that’s the end of them making consoles. No point buying an Xbox
Xbox went full Icarus, and Microsoft has become the sun.
But they got Activision!
@breakneck "How is Spencer still in the job? His gambles have all put Xbox in an even more precarious position."
Cause Phil job isn't just to sell plastic boxes... He job was to overall increase profit in their gaming division. Unfortunately, while his decisions look bad from our viewpoint. He brought Micrsoft from being 7 or 8th in term of revenue (They was getting beat out by Apple and Google). To now being 3rd behind Tencent and Sony, now ahead of Apple.
Imagine where they'll be if their gaming app store plans work out... They now control some of the biggest mobile games.
On Xbox I own:
Halo MCC
Forza Horizon 3 & 4 plus all their expansions
I would glady double up on these.
I would love Fable too
Can’t wait for Indiana Jones on PS5!
@get2sammyb @XenonKnight MS FS2024 is an updated version, but it's also a separate game I believe. (it's sold separately which caused a minor stir)
Seems like they are focusing on actual things to do in this one. That's not a slight, I like Flight Sim, but I found it a bit aimless, more of a curio, visiting places I had been or wanted to go. Whereas the new version FS2024 seems to have actual "missions"(sortof) which will potentially widen it's appeal.
I'm a bit surprised honestly. I believed making the "Netflix of games" with Gamepass was the entire strategy of MS.
Getting a few more game sales on PS5 shouldn't really matter to the gigantic money machine that is Microsoft, unless they are preparing to exit the hardware race entirely and focus on being a service provider. But if they manage to get Gamepass on Playstation eventually then obviously Sony will eat a lot of the profits from those subscriptions.
@Bionic-Spencer in this market it would be absolutely insane for them to release a niche game like Hellblade as an exclusive, you're asking for big M$ to shutter the studio after a lacklustre launch.
hell, its insane that Starfield is currently locked on Xbox, I predict that they will make millions porting it.
I'm happy to see gaming has no boundaries since Xbox games will come to PlayStation. Also I don't support PlayStation games coming to Xbox.
Personally I couldn't care less. I doubt its much different to Sony wanting to put more games on PC - whether they release day/date or some-time after.
Exclusives can still be beneficial for MS in the same way they are for Sony. They can use them to sell Hardware, get people playing in your 'ecosystem' and then sell them elsewhere once they have served that purpose and 'new' games are being used for hardware sales.
Starfield for example could release a year or two - but at that point, its 'old' news on Xbox and games like Fable or Perfect Dark may well be exclusives to get people into the Xbox ecosystem.
Thats similar to Sony with God of War, Spider-Man or Horizon for example - when those games were not selling Hardware and/or Sales have dried up to a trickle, they sell on PC to bring in more money and another PR cycle for Sony.
MS may well do the same - except they already release on PC so the only real option to get that 'extra' money and PR cycle is to release on the only Platforms you can't yet play their Games.
Sony actively choose not to tap into the Xbox market in the same way they have chosen to tap into the PC market. MS may choose to tap more into the Playstation market and I would expect that they'll decide which 'older' games to release. Of course some IP's like CoD, Minecraft will release Day/date anyway...
I just want Rare Replay.
Can SIE develop their games for them too? 🤪
In all honesty, whilst initially this will be good news for PlayStation gamers, it will ultimately be terrible for the Xbox as a console. After all, what is the point in owning an Xbox console if all their exclusives are available on the PlayStation? None whatsoever is the answer.
What will that mean for the PlayStation in the long run once it is the only 'high-end' console? Well for starters Sony will have no need whatsoever of selling the PS6, and beyond, at a loss. Consoles will sell with a profit, and possibly a reasonable profit, which means we, as gamers, will pay more to buy our beloved plastic box. It also means that Sony can take their time when making first-party games because there will be a huge amount of content available. Now that may sound okay, but it means that we will be waiting longer and longer for those games that have made the PlayStation successful in the first place. It also means that there will be little need for innovation from PlayStation because others will be doing that for them.
It strikes me that people don't see the long term issues that exist with Sony becoming a monopoly, as for some reason they think it will be some kind of Utopia. Thing is, those that believe this, are the very same people that were fretting over the prospect of Xbox becoming exactly that when they were going through the ABK acquisition. Has to be said, it is kind of hypocritical...
Whilst having all games coming to both consoles is fantastic - I would love to see PS Studios bringing their games to Xbox - it does make you wonder if the current state will erode XB as a brand and a box worth buying, as terrible for the consumer as exclusives are they are the main reason we buy one box over another... Will Xbox go the way of Sega; a once titanic hardware purveyor now a MUHASSIVE software peddler?
Genuinely nothing on Xbox that interests me which is why I tend to buy PlayStations.
N.i.c.e. yeah more x box games is definitely coming to PlayStation.its going to be fun to see x box games on PlayStation.playstation is dominating x box.and x box knows sony is better than them.haha.word up son
@ManifoldCuriosity. Both sunset overdrive and quantum break are excellent games also.word up son
It sounds like MS is laying the groundwork to retire the XBOX name and console in the next couple of years.
Looks like we'll be seeing more Xbox Studio games on PS5. Bring over MS FS. That be cool.
This is nice. I was a little sad about Bethesda games going away from PlayStation.
I don't want anything recent. It is all junk. Give me Lost Odyssey and Magna Carta 2 on PS5 with trophy support and I'll be happy!
@BAMozzy PC isn’t a direct competitor to consoles. The vast majority of console gamers are casual and prefer to play games right out of one box for serial years. Many won’t build a gaming PC. So Sony releasing their games to PC gamers won’t weaken their console sells. As a significant portion of PC gamers only game on PC.
@playstation1995 PlayStation is dominating Xbox but they're not better than them. They're just as bad. Both PlayStation and Xbox have been disappointing this generation which is why I'm glad I switched to PC + Switch. The few interesting Xbox and PS games are already on PC now so it seems like the right move.
@Vaako007 You don't need to build a gaming PC. There are premade desktops, gaming laptops and even the Steam Deck. Meanwhile gaming on PC is just as easy as gaming on console. Steam has its own big picture UI that can even be controlled with a console controller.
I won't lie I thought Starfield was a stinker the few times I tried to play it on Xbox, but maybe if it comes to PS5 I'll give it another chance.
@TruestoryYep PC gaming will never be "as easy as gaming on console" and saying so is misleading. Regardless of how streamlined PC gaming becomes, it will never be as easy as buying a box, plugging it in, signing into your account, and GO
@Vaako007 That's not strictly true - Steam-Deck is a Handheld Console and many PC gamers buy a Playstation for the 'exclusives' they can't play on PC - now they can.
We are also seeing more and more Handheld Consoles that are not overly expensive considering they are gaming PC's. A RoG Ally for example can play Spider-Man, R&C, Starfield or Forza - as well as all steam, epic, old Playstation/Nintendo/Sega games - a MUCH larger Library than both Playstation 5 and Xbox Series combined.
The only real difference is that Devs will likely give you a 'few' options - maybe a 30fps and 60fps mode to choose between but with a PC, you can tweak the settings to suit your hardware and preference.
When I got my RoG Ally, it was very Similar to buying a Console, plugging it in, updating it, Signing in to my account, waiting for Games to download/install/update to the latest patch and then just playing. In fact, I had immediate access to Game Pass and Steam, each with my Library ready, each with my saves ready so I can continue where I left off etc.
Why spend £500+ on a Console with a more limited Library and locked into that 1 'ecosystem' when you can buy a Handheld PC for example and Play a much larger Library inc all Xbox, most Sony etc games that are often cheaper and much more likely to be Backwards Compatible in the future too?
Yes a gaming PC can be expensive, but its not that 'expensive' if you aren't bothered about '4k' - especially if you don't have a 4k display. Some people may prefer to have 1080/120 without RT than 4k/30 with RT or 4k/60 without it but you may not have that choice on a 'locked' console.
Good. I love the deliciousness of Microsoft spending such massive amounts of money to buy up exclusives (instead of making their own games) only to pull an about face and put all their IP on the competing platforms they were trying to defeat with the purchase, anyway.
And to be clear, I'd feel the same way if this was Sony doing this and then being forced to put God of War and TLOU on Xbox. It's just such a boneheaded move that bit them in the ass. No matter who it is, I love watching big dumb corporations eat crow.
@breakneck not sure what else Phil could do. He can’t buy everyone a Series console. The brand isn’t as popular as PS, never was even tho 360 was close. In America it was bigger than PS. But after the Xbox one mess i am not sure what else Phil could do to stir up excitement for the brand. Tried lot’s of really good things, things even PS brought into their business models. The Series S rumor of holiday $199 bundled with COD should move units as you can bet not to many people will spend the money for the Series X. This is a solid play as the rumor leads into this years COD not coming to PS4 and Xbox One should players will have to upgrade and a $199 box with COD in today’s economy is as good as a try as they can muster. But PS5 will still outsell it. Phil isn’t not doing his job. It’s just PS5 is the better buy for gamers alongside Nintendo.
@MFTWrecks sort of right. But MS will be making loads of money either way. They own IP’s that sell in the millions. So they could leave the hardware business tomorrow and they will rake in cash on Nintendo, Sony and PC with those Ip’s. Sure they will be gone from Hardware but they will be at the mountain top in software sales. So it’s not a bad investment, it’s just no one wants to play their games on their Hardware as the Xbox brand was ruined during the Xbox One and Series isn’t doing much better as most have moved onto PS4-PS5 and not looking back.
@HonestHick They now have a very small handful of IP that sell new games in high enough numbers to crack billions in sales (Minecraft and COD... maybe Diablo and Warcraft). But the underlying companies they purchased had been making their own mistakes for ages (especially the Blizzard IPs). The jig is up for many on the quality of Bethesda games after Starfield landed like a wet fart.
It is going to take them YEEEEEEEEEARS to make back the money they spent on the purchase.
You're not wrong in that they'll make hand over fist if they go purely software. But they spent an ungodly amount on these studios and... there's nary a system-defining or chart-crushing title among them (besides the stalwarts mentioned).
One could argue it was a really really bad purchase. If it was so great, do you think they'd be in this specific position? Because I don't.
@tangyzesty i don’t disagree with you about PC gaming. Tho i am starting to think about leaving consoles and go there. Have to wait and see what Sony’s PC plans are first. But i could make the case when cloud is strong enough to be where causals play, it will be easy to turn on your smart tv, ht a button or 3 and your in a game. No updates needed as they will be server side. No need to worry about saves as they will be cloud based, no need to up your storage drive etc etc. this is the marketing behind newer tech. It becomes more intuitive and less hassle, it does the work for you. Cloud and PC and Mobile is the future. For us console players as Jim Ryan said we benefit from console hardware while countries and companies update their infrastructures, and they are. In my town for $70 bucks i have 1000mbps speed. 4 years ago it was $50 for 200mbps.
@MFTWrecks COD and Candy Crush alone make billions a year. See that is a mistake i see on here and Pure Xbox sites. They forget MS bought ABK for K. King mobile and COD mobile. They want in on mobile and they have a mobile store coming in July this year and they are waiting for cloud to replace console (10-15) years or so away and have the hardcore on PC. MS threw in towel on consoles as they don’t sell enough of them and they see Sony selling double then them making 4% profit margin and have to go to PC. MS isn’t as dumb as they look and sound and that is coming from a Apple fanatic. Haven’t used windows in 18 years. Diablo 4 sold 10-11 million copies in a record time, becoming the fastest selling blizzard title ever. Thats not peanuts. World of Warcraft isn’t peanuts. So again this is a long term investment and a mobile store front investment by having Candy Crush, COD and Minecraft. It’s not as doom and gloom as it looks. Sure Xbox consoles are just now a 40-50 million seller, which isn’t peanuts in profits either, but they want the big money and the big money is Mobile and PC. ABK is a Mobile and PC monster in revenue. As for your it will take YEEEEEEARS. Well i don’t disagree, thats what a investment is but when you are nearly now worth not 1…not 2… but 3 TRILLLLLLON dollars. You can take that chance and if it pays off thats how you become a 4, 5, 6 trillion dollar company.
Wonder how many people will start crying before anythings even confirmed like last rumour they were in selling my Xbox lmao🤣. Probs be all timed exclusives if do so still be better on Xbox if there the games you wanna play and you'll get them day one gamepass where as ps you'd have to pay full. Also be more people getting to play and would subsidize gamepass meaning more indies hopefully 😎🙂
@Decimateh-xblz The crying will start next month after the next Announced set of PS5 games. The question is, what games will it be?🤔
@XenonKnight too right 🤣 I'm Xbox myself n don't get it at all. Even if they go ps your still getting em 1st on Xbox n through gamepass don't have to pay 70 a game so if them going to ps to make the profit I'm fine with that also lets more people play n probs more active on multiplayer games. Never know if could happen to ps coming to Xbox you never know bet they wouldn't be complaining then would they lol. And anything possible Im gunna say Forza or halo even though you'd think they'd be more unlikely with been the Xbox games but I'm thinking multiplayer side would make more sense or possibly gears as supposedly gears 6 is making an appearance or something 🙂
Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Gears, Fable and maybe Banjo would be GREAT!
Basically...Microsoft becomes the most powerful publisher on Earth....at the cost of killing its own platform and giving a middle finger to its own userbase
@Decimateh-xblz I think Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be announced. No one cares about Halo 5.
Technically I don't believe in exclusives and have hoped it would end for a long time. No doubt if Xbox had significant market share, Sony would be considering porting their games as well. But as it is it doesn't so they won't.
At the same time, precisely because Xbox was in a precarious market situation anyway, feeding the competitor that's trashing them their only selling points is going to do them no good in clawing back market. Whether or not they give up on hardware it's clear they have giving up on current gen hardware and are abandoning it until the handheld maybe next year at least. That's a long gap for the brand to erode though.
@breakneck @DennisReynolds I don't think that Phil's leadership "failed" so much as he had a bold vision, he went big on it, and the market ultimately rejected it. (I.E. the idea that cost was the biggest barrier to entry in gaming, and significantly reducing the cost barrier with low cost hardware and low cost subscription would significantly grow the market.) Can't deny the strategy has failed, but TBH we need more game executives that go all in on bold strategies that may sink or swim than safe and same strategies, really.
People give the series S grief, but from a strategy POV it makes a lot of sense. Identify that the console market isn't growing really at all. Try to identify the reason. Come up with cost of entry as a recurring theme. Identify that Nintendo successfully uses weak hardware at lower costs and is highly successful. Identify that the majority of PC gamers are using way weaker hardware than current high end consoles and is successful. Devise strategy to reduce cost of entry and reduce game costs/spread it out, therefore grow the size of the market in a new direction. As a strategy, the idea is very sound. Not even entirely unlike the Wii strategy. It just....happened to not work. That's business. A lack of marketing didn't help. And corporate shifting the strategy to mobile 20 seconds after they launched Series and it didn't crush PS also didn't help.
The Series launched in 2020 and it was a good launch. By 2021 corporate was flogging "cloud cloud cloud cloud" instead of Series (in hindsight that was likely corporate speak for "mobile, mobile, mobile") which then became "buy King at any cost." IDK how much of the problem is Phil's big bet on growing market by lowering cost barrier, and how much was corporate changing gears the moment it launched to focus everything on getting mobile money and ignoring console.
"Gamers" keep missing the strategy behind ABK. Even though CFO Amy Hood directly stated it during the hearings. It was never about CoD, it was never about consolidating console games and getting Diablo and Spyro. it was about getting King, the biggest name in mobile, no matter the cost. Everything else, every single AB studio, is just excess scrap to dispose of or use. Fat to trim from the steak. They bought KING for $80b. The rest just came with it as preorder swag.
@XenonKnight oh ye forgot about that 😂 didn't infinite start getting better though I know flipped at start but read it got better I think? Tbh I play more indies n metroidvanias mainly one thing why love gamepass for the indies 🤣🙂 although been enjoying tales of arise too pretty sick game 🙂
@XenonKnight Xbox isn't going to exist much longer. It's Microsoft Gaming, not Xbox gaming.
Gears and lost odyssey for me
Fable for me. Ports of the first 3 would be nice and the new one, whenever the H that is coming.
@HonestHick I always appreciate your replies, I wish other people put as much thought into things as you do
@tangyzesty i really appericate that buddy. Hey this is just like talking sports at the barber shop for me. We all have our favorites and others we enjoy and then some we don’t like. People just need to keep it classy and be nice out it and i find these conversations to be fun and educational towards the industry. I don’t do all that console war this and that crap. I enjoy gaming as i know you do as well. Really appreciate ya friend! 😊
To be fair, take SEGA, they became a software business, and survive to tell the tale. Way back at the start of the PS1 era, I gamed on PC and PS1, PC for simulation games (MS Studio games too) Gram Turismo and CMR rally on PS1. So when XB came along, it wasn't important "if" I was interested in anything that was going to be on XB it was probably better on PC, so that's where I was. PS1 remained very GT specific. Moving towards 2025, I see no issue with MS dropping XB as a platform to rebrand as MS Games to become multi platform. Because it would mean that they potentially would have a whole new amount of gamers that may buy games they couldn't have in the past. Surely makes good business sense? Let's also consider that just because a franchise on XB that might have bombed over there, might hit it off on a different platform with different players. I fir one as a PS5 gamer would jump on MSFS, but how many XB players are invested in their own franchise? I'd love to see the numbers of how many PS gamers vs XB gamers consider themselves hardcore 'console' sim gamers? I've always felt XB ganers are more into their sports games compared to PS gamers, but this might be just me.
Id take Starfield, all the others I've played so many times I've lost count. I've recently played Starfield on my deck and it was a great game, but I can imagine it being so much nicer to play on the PS5. MCC and gears, while great. I've done. (Unless they remake gears 2&3 like the first one)
@BAMozzy I’m tracking all of your points mate. My point is that the average consumer isn’t interested in the PC landscape as it’s still very niche. The handheld options are great value and pose a minimal threat at the moment to the consoles. But branding is a strong thing and the casual gamers know Nintendo for handhelds for example. People I know that have those handheld PC mostly have their real PC rigs at home. The handheld is just for the road. Now if Nintendo allowed GOG and Steam to use all of their titles. Then handheld PCs could maybe capture some more numbers. 4K gaming is very overrated man. I don’t even bother with my PC as 1440 is enough for a 24” monitor. On my consoles 4K does look nice in my 65” with the distance that I sit from the TV. However 1440 as a standard for the consoles with upscaling would be fine as well.
It's hardly surprising. Ticking along in third place forever might fly under the radar when you're a tiny part of a huge company, but when you spend $68 billion on swallowing up a publisher the higher ups are going to start paying a lot more attention.
Xbox will never, ever win. Might as well put the games everywhere and make more money.
@Vaako007 The average gamer, if you really want to there, would most likely be playing on their Mobile Phone as Mobile Gaming is by far the most popular 'Globally'.
Steam-deck or those Handheld PCs may well be a 'compliment' for a PC gamer, but the SteamDeck could be someones first Console instead of a Switch for example and cheaper than a PS5/Series X. Not only that, it probably has a larger Library inc being able to play both Sony and MS games all without a 'monthly' Subscription fee (even if just for 'online' access)
Most gamers aren't that bothered about 4k or RT and paying for Hardware to do '4k RT' is expensive. Handhelds may well be less 'powerful' than a Console, but they aren't required to do more than 1080p on their small 1080p screen. In a few years, you could have Handheld PC's with DLSS 3.0 for example too that are as 'cheap' as the next Playstation but with a MUCH larger Library inc Sony, MS etc games (inc any not playable via BC thanks to emulation), can play anywhere, take you games anywhere etc so 'most' gamers may well opt for that instead...
Why buy a Playstation when all those games are on a 'PC' which means you can play the game on 'cheap' PC handhelds, laptops, tablets or 'high end' gaming rigs, play a massive range of older and PC exclusive games and don't have any other 'Subscriptions' required, cheaper games etc.
The same principle applies to Sony as it does MS with regards to 'selling' games outside of their platform/ecosystem. If your games are available elsewhere, then 'some' gamers will choose to play on that hardware instead of buying their Hardware. If I had a high end gaming rig for example, why buy an Xbox? No point because I can play everything on that PC. Why buy a Playstation? No point because I can wait for Sony to release on PC. Spend £500 on a Handheld PC and I can play Playstation, Xbox, Steam etc games anytime, anywhere with no need for PS+/Game Pass monthly fees if I choose.
Handhelds are more popular than TV connected Consoles - as proven by the majority of gamers playing on Mobile devices - so I wouldn't say they are 'just' for the Road...
Rare Replay please!
Ones I’d expect
Ori games
Rare replay
Pit people
Alien hominid hd
Alien hominid invasion
Dead Rising 3
Sunset overdrive
Recore
Ryse son of Rome
Battleblock theatre
Banjo Kazooie and Tooie
Viva piñata and Trouble in paradise
Blue dragon
Lost oddysee
Starfield
Probably Palworld after early access
Conker
Octopath Traveller
@adge_uk
I’d expect more rare games on PS with how successful Sea of Thieves has been on PS.
Hoping for Rare Replay, Conker, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, Viva piñata and trouble in paradise if they don’t go rare replay route.
Would still love remasters of Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, Conker and the Viva Piñata’s expo if it leads to a new game
OD on PS5? Make it so, please.
It makes perfect sense. They aren't shifting the number of consoles PlayStation do so they're losing out on a huge section of the market by keeping their games exclusive. As software is where they make most of their money they won't make much of a profit as the install base just isn't there. I'd love to see Halo, Gears, Forza etc on the PS5 even if have recently bought a Series X 🤦♂️
@BAMozzy it is messed up but when I think of the average gamer I’m referring to traditional consoles or PCs. I don’t consider mobile gaming persons as gamers.
4K RT is just about showing off in my opinion. You know the saying stick measuring contest? I think this is what many people do whom brag about high end rigs. For any hobby there are those that want to best gear even if it doesn’t actually improve the hobby or sport play.
As for why someone would want a console. The reasons I still buy consoles despite having a very good PC is that for certain games I prefer to play in front of my big screen. I only want to play RPGs and racing games on my consoles. As like I said the tv is big and it’s nice to sit on a couch with surround sound. PC gaming I use for the more serious strategy games and realistic FPS like Arma. But a PC can do most of that you are correct. But like I stated for me it’s more joyful to play certain types of games on my couch with a console controller.
I think the rise of those mobile “gamers” is due to cost. Not every family can afford nor cares to spend money on a console. Especially the iPad screen generation of people whom is glued to mobile devices. I noticed younger kids can play these free games that are littered with aids for a while and it doesn’t bother them. So for parents they don’t have to get traditional gaming devices. Just get their kids a mobile phone and it does everything for them entertainment wise.
@Vaako007 When you see what they can do with the new iPad Pro and its 'Bench marks' and Neural engine in something that thin/light, How long before you have 3080ti like GPU performance inc a Neural Processor for AI DLSS/RT/etc - all on a 1080p-1440p Handheld 'PC'?
Buy one of those for the same Price Sony wants for its next Console, that maybe a tougher proposition. Do you upgrade or get a PC where you can play Anywhere, anytime with great graphics/performance? PC has Playstation games as well as Steam, Epic etc - Games Sony won't have inc Nintendo games through emulation.
A mobile phone could well be powerful enough to to run games if people aren't expecting 4k 'ultra' graphics modes the 'best' PC offer too, so that's why MS is investing more in that market - they also want to get people buying Forza, Halo, CoD etc on there too.
Get CoD everywhere - inc Mobiles, you get more people buying season passes, cosmetic bundles etc. That makes up for the 'loss' of a few million sales on Xbox/PC. If you only have 5m Sales, you can only sell 5m season Passes - get 20m in, that's a LOT more people to potentially buy a season pass or whatever they sell in game...
Telling you the ones in charge of MS want to get out of the hardware side of it and become a publisher only another sega
Lost Odyssey and a Gears of War trilogy upscaled with multiplayer - please!!
