Surpise-hit indie Animal Well was released late last week and already seems to have trapped a sizable number of players with its gorgeous pixel aesthetic and world full of secrets to uncover. Despite being a single player game, one particular secret puzzle will supposedly require 50 players working in concert to solve. Warning: vague spoilers for a post-game Animal Well secret puzzle to follow!
A mind-bending Metroidvania, Animal Well has much more to offer than initially meets the eye. As reported by IGN, to beat the game and see the credits roll, players are tasked with collecting four flames scattered throughout its various regions. Things get pretty interesting because this is just part one of a three-part treasure hunt.
Following the flames, players must collect all 64 Easter Eggs and place them in the appropriate nook. Doing so will reward the brave Animal Well players with a secret item required to trigger the game's "true ending".
Now, where things get genuinely wild is in the third phase. The trick is that players will pass a 40x10 pixelated mural of rabbits mid-hop early in the game, which, post-game, can be manipulated and moved. Digging deeper, players will gain access to a 4x4 grid of tiles similar to the larger one. Where community coordination comes in, as it turns out, is that each player's completed 4x4 grid makes up 1/50th of the larger whole. We can't imagine in what universe the average player would be expected to overcome such a test, but thankfully, TechRaptor already did the hard work of collating the results. Once you've sorted the mural, you will be ready for the next secret puzzle.
What do you think of Animal Well? Have you had a chance to dive in? What do you think of the many secrets contained therein? Let us know in the comments section below.

I can’t read this yet because I haven’t finished the game, but it’s fantastic. I definitely want to
Platinum it and help out with this puzzle. It really reminds me of Jet Set Willy with the room design (yes, I’m that age!😂). Discovering the different uses for each item is so good!
Everything is telling me to play this game so I guess I should download it and give it a try. Problem is, honestly, the screenshots and short trailer I’ve watched make my eyes hurt. I seem to find it hard to parse and am just seeing semi-random dots everywhere. I’m sure it’ll be better when I actually play it, but I can’t help but wish for a different aesthetic.
@thefourfoldroot1 it looks clearer with the scanlines off, I liked them starting off, but yeah, it did get a bit difficult to parse.
@thefourfoldroot1 If it helps at all, you can disable the scan lines in the settings, which might make it a little better for you?
@Quintumply jinx! Thanks for the review, loving this game. These mini reviews are great!
@DrVenture69 You're welcome, thank you for reading! Glad you're enjoying the game
