As part of its annual Days of Play promotion, PlayStation has revealed that three PS2 games are heading to PS Plus Premium next month — and one of them's bound to go down well with fans of a certain platforming franchise...
That's right, Sly Cooper is finally coming to PS5, kind of. Sucker Punch's 2002 title Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus — known simply as Sly Raccoon in Europe — is the headline act here. It'll be joined by fellow PS2 games Tomb Raider: Legend and Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the 11th June.
Okay, so it's not the broadest lineup of PS2 classics, but it's good to see that Sony's actually pushing games from its legendary console. Here's hoping that this is just the beginning.
Will you be grabbing any of these PS2 titles for yourself? Show off your thieving skills in the comments section below.

Let’s gooooooo! Sly Cooper!
Honestly Sly Cooper alone is a good start. I Tomb Raider Legend is a good pick as well. Hopefully with Sony doing PS2 games finally their momentum for bigger titles can be more wide-spread across all the retro consoles they have on Premium
Have some ps5 trophies for it and il be straight on it lol played the remasters and thieves in time and loved them
Still need to play the Sly games, but I take the PS3 HD ones are the better option?
We starting with Sly Cooper? Let's go! Really hoping for Ape Escape 3 and Wild ARMS Alter code F
@Specky Maybe, maybe not. This is a new emulator.
The Tomb Raider Legend/Anniversary/Underworld trilogy are really decent — surprised to see the first entry getting a re-issue of sorts.
@get2sammyb You've been hyped recently I noticed. But so am I. Slyyyy, let's gooooo!
Say 1 on Sly Cooper lets go. Please have trophies
Cool.a collection of sly cooper would have been better.but its all good.word up son
This is making me consider upping my sub to premium. I do love a bit of Sly Coops!
YES! YES!
Now gimme Ape Escape 3 and God of War 1 and 2
Finally, PS2 games
Always good to see Sly get some love. Still to this day my favorite 3D platformer. Tomb Raider Legend is also one of my favorites of that series as well.
Overall a great way to kick off the PS2 bit of the classics lineup.
Ugh for a split second my heart skipped when I saw sly in the title only for it to be an old game release 🥲
I wonder if it will have an all new trophy list not related to the remastered PS3 Collection, would be fun to get the platinum again.
Awesome news kinda hoped it was the HD remastered version though.
Definitely gonna get Sly, hopefully we’ll get Sly 2 and 3 in next few months
Tricky situation as I still have both my Tomb Raider & Sly Cooper HD trilogies for my PS3.
Question is can I be bothered to take out the PS3 console!?!...Or just download these PS2 versions of the first games to the PS5?!
PS3 is superior with the better visuals + I think Sly 2 & 3 on PS3 are in 3D!! (The 4K projector I play on still has 3D capabilities... Not letting the fad die! )
Yes! I was hoping this new emulator would bring about the return of Sly. Does anyone know if you can purchase these separately of Premium?
Do they have added trophy challenges or are they just the same old games with save and rewind function? I’d like more to get my teeth into than that, so the devs setting new trophy challenges would be appreciated.
Yeah great lock Sly behind subscription trash greeeeat Sony thanks a lot 🙄
Fantastic to see more PS2 games going up on Premium
@get2sammyb this is great news! Does the official PS2 emulator also support widescreen and 4k. Must say I love playing these classics via nethersx2 which makes them look amazing, but I'd also like to collect ps trophies.
I have a Premium subscription but going to spend the money anyway to buy Sly Cooper and Tomb Raider Legend. Both great games and a chance to show Sony that some of us do want more PS2 games on the service.
@Keyblade-Dan As far as i remember, you can buy this game separately without sub to PS+ Premium, just like you can buy Wild Arms 1-3, Syphon Filter, Legend of Dragoon, J&D 1-3, or any PS1 & PS2 classics on PSN store. If i remember all of them are $9.99.
I'm personally tempted to get Sly Cooper. But why Sony not just remastered the trilogy collection but also include Thieves in Time? I mean, they got Bluepoint who did a great job with HD remaster.
@PuppetMaster Hope this is the case Sly is one of my all time favourite franchises and if I can't buy these separately I'll be steamed
Typical that they start to release more PS2 games when I've just ordered a PS2!
Really cool to see Sly make a return!
Finally! Now to see if the emulation’s good enough to warrant picking over PCSX2.
PS2 again, at last!!! Now please Ape Escape 3!!!
I hope this means for PS2 games coming like say, Drakengard
Hopefully we can get the great jrpgs that are trapped on ps2, like shadow hearts.
Also bring Champions of Norrath back.
Release Dragon Quest 8 with trophies you cowards! Jokes aside I hope this is a good emulator, actually looking forward TR Legends. Played every version of Sly under the sun at this point
What I want is trophies added to the third party titles.
Are these PS2 games available for individual download?
@SuperSilverback DQ8 mentioned
@sanderson72 We don't know yet, but I'd be surprised if all three are completely locked behind Premium since previous PS1 classics have been sold standalone.
Oh man! That’s amazing! (Goes back to playing Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone HD on his ROG Ally).
@ShogunRok just doing my part
About damn time lol. Guess we will see the fruits of this supposed new emulator Sony was said to be working on.
YEEEEEEEES! FINALLY!
Nice selection! I've actually been wanting to play that old clone wars game for a while now. I probably have nostalgia glasses but I remember playing the multiplayer a ton.
These are a decent start! Honestly not sure if it was just being a kid but playing the Geonosis arena and using light sabers in the Clone Wars game was one of the most fun co-op experiences I can remember as a young lad.
Sigh. Sly cooper. I missed this game
We're finally getting PS2 games and Sly Cooper babbbbyyyy! Let's go PlayStation! If they keep up with these types of titles, Premium only becomes more enticing and lucrative. Can't wait to see classic franchises return. Here's hoping for more Sly, Killzone, Ico, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, etc. 🤞
@get2sammyb I hope the new emulator does a good job with these. Hopefully Digital Foundry or someone will release a video on it.
PS2 games on Premium is a great step forward. But I’d love it if they’d just let me download the PS3 games on premium instead of streaming. For some reason, every time I stream, it lags so hard. My internet is fine with non-PS3 games. But damn, it’s hard to play GoW when you have to button mash and it doesn’t recognize you destroying your fingertips because of the lag 😭😭😭
Yeah PS2 games are great but they haven't got a great track record with the PS1 line up so we'll just wait and see.as long as they've got trophy support as the majority of the PS1 games didnt
@CWill97 don't forget that I can't pause the PS3 streaming as if I let it pause for so long u get kicked off
@ShogunRok they are locked behind premium as that was the headline
@sanderson72 yes but for the price of them you'll be better getting the subscription
@AndyKazama I would like that! But it doesn't seem like Square Enix is playing ball with Sony.
Mere scraps, only offered out to distract from the lack of new stuff they have this year and although great games totally possible to play on PS2 and PS3 as they were for years now instead of waiting nearly four years to get the PS2 emulated versions that should have been present from day one. They're only doing a back catalogue raid to distract people, and it appears to have worked in some cases.
@Keyblade-Dan
You could just buy it separately, silly goose.
@CWill97 i feel bad for people that sold their PS3s. playing natively is always gonna be better than streaming. im playing the GoW games on my ps3 right now and couldnt imagine streaming or let alone even using the stick drifting dualsense for this
those who actually care about retro gaming already know what to do.
@Specky Not exactly. The HD versions have a few small issues.
@nomither6 Not even a year old (and with only 'very light' usage) and my white DualSense is on its way back to Sony due to going left all the time.
On the other hand, my PS3 Slim and its 3 official DS3s are all working perfectly. Never had stick drift on any other DualShock but the DualSense seems to come with it built in.
@TRC I forgot the tomb raider is no longer owned by Square Enix Europe!
@sanderson72 Same here. I've had most consoles ever made and used them a lot. No issues with any controller until my first Dualsense which had to be sent back due to drift. Then the replacement got a really loose R2 after a while.
@sanderson72 yup, i wish playstation allowed us to use any dualshock for their consoles , but the dumb & extremely unnecessary touchpad ruined any chances of that . i’ve been through about 6 dualsenses & still am salty about the extra money i wasted all because of their cheaply built but expensive controller
@nomither6 Yeah, still wish Sony would allow the use of the DualShock4 to play PS5 games. It has exactly the same buttons and at least the DS4 lasts longer than a Fruit Pastille.
Sony say it's so "you get the best PS5 experience" - while your character walks left automatically to their instant demise...
@sanderson72 thats funny but its very true & scummy. i never had anxiety from using a controller until the dualsense. to be fair though the dualshock4 had drift issues as well but the dualsense is on another level , its been exacerbated. the dualsense could be the best controller of all time for me because i do love the controller , but the drifting is so bad
@nomither6 I’ve never owned a PS3. I skipped that Gen due to college/sports and work.
I’ll pick up Sly for a third time. Sony, get the hint already!
