PlayStation's marketing team has pulled off some memorable stunts in the past, but this latest promotion might actually take the cake. On Friday and Saturday of this week, just hours before the Champions League final takes place, Sony's inviting people to test their skills with a massive PS5-themed pinball machine. Claim the high score and you'll win tickets to the aforementioned footie final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid. Not a bad prize...
You can find the gigantic pinball attraction in London's Trafalgar Square, and at this point, it's probably worth mentioning that the Champions League match is also happening in London, at Wembley Stadium. So thankfully, if you do win those tickets, you won't have to worry about booking an immediate flight out of the country.
The machine itself looks fantastic. Again, it's PS5-themed, so you've got the colour scheme, an amazing Astro model — with moving eyes — and a bunch of references to various PlayStation Studios games, including Gran Turismo and God of War. The whole thing is operated via a DualSense controller, too.
Would you give this thing a shot? Dare we ask if you actually plan on visiting? Absolutely slam some pinballs in the comments section below.

Wonder why they've never made a digital pinball game there's a wealth of IP to make tables out of in PlayStation's catalogue.
Sony sure knows how to PR and with football.
Also the same weekend console prices etc have their prices dropped.
They make marketing and advertising seem so simple and common sense, especially as Xbox seem not to have a clue.
Nintendo are ok at it as well.
Yeah that Astro Bot game must be real at this point.😄
Also helping to promote Astro Bot, I wonder why 🤔
@Decoy_Snake Actually they have. It used to be a series called Pinball Heroes. On the PSP. You can play on it on PS4/PS5 through PS+ Catalog.
Also this is really cool to see.
@Decoy_Snake Sony released one for PSP called Pinball Heroes which featured tables based on Uncharted, Everybody’s Golf, WipEout etc. It’s also available on PS4/5 as an emulated classic.
Edit: Aw beaten by a minute 😅
Astro being the mascot for PS5 and potentially beyond doesn't fill me with the most confidence tbh. Great for the promotion of Asobi games and Astro bot stuff but how many PS mascots actually last that long. Like Sackboy is effectively dead and many other game series mascots before it.
And no I am not saying that those game series die because they are mascots but just interesting.
@ProfessorNiggle I think as to why, he just fits the color scheme of the PS5 and the branding. Most of the other mascots didn't, they also had their own games with their own art direction, or were third-party. People kind of had their own take as to who would be the PS mascot until they chose Astro.
They did not have a synonymous mascot to recognize with for years (that cat and the purple floating head don't count). Unofficial ones, sure, but there's a reason why when people think of Xbox or Nintendo, they think of Master Chief or Mario. Astro would apply here going forward.
@VeldinX @TheTraditional ah nice never heard of it, I'll have to check it out
@OldGamer999 I am starting to wonder if Microsoft's PR is "stifled" by the companies pledge to be carbon negative by 2030 - as PR Stunts are practically Marketing 101 at this point.
I have noticed that I never see any physical marketing from Microsoft - it's all online ads on social media and streaming services.
This kind of stuff, while awesome, generates waste. Since Microsoft is trying to reduce the waste it produces, the amount of physical marketing materials is removed/reduced all together.
It's the only thing (other than incompetence) that I can think of to explain why Microsoft advertising is severely lacking these days as I highly doubt a multi-trillion-dollar corporation would hire a bunch of idiots in the marketing department.
Man Playstation marketing team is freaking amazing. Especially the ***** the do in Europe. And I'm a Statey but would sure love those tickets. One of you PushSquare regulars on that side of the pond better be lining up for some pinball and win those tickets!!
@GamingFan4Lyf I think it's because of Halo Infinite. They did a gigantic marketing push including lots of physical marketing for that game and it backfired massively so they considered big marketing pushes a waste of money. A "If Halo can't do it, nothing Xbox can" kind of thing.
@Grumblevolcano Maybe it's a bit of both? I actually had no idea Microsoft went all out on marketing Halo Infinite.
I just feel that if Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft setup booths in a row, Nintendo and Sony would have elaborate set pieces and experiences while Microsoft would have a sign made of recycled cardboard with an Xbox logo printed on it using sustainable ink (if that's even a thing) and an arrow pointing to a single Series S demo station as to not consume too much power.
Astrobot is currently on the Southbank, almost certainly announced tonight then
@GamingFan4Lyf
I don’t think we will know the real reason, some used to say because of the ABK deal going through.
Though god knows what the excuse was before that started.
I just think they don’t want to and that is that.
Will be interesting to see if they advertise COD for Xbox and console bundles etc and main stream tv advertising like Sony used to do with COD, making the game almost look like a PlayStation exclusive.
If we see none of this for COD this year then Xbox advertising and PR is sort of lost in space.
Im going to go where ever this is and I will be stealing astrobot
Wish they would’ve shown a still shot of the full table at some point, but I saw enough to know I would consider buying something like that. Haven’t felt super positive about Sony for the past few years, but it looks like they killed it with that pinball table.
Okay that's cool and I wonder which lucky employee at Sony gets to keep it when the marketing is all wrapped up.
Maybe they should make some normal sized ones and sell them on playstation direct because I'd probably buy one.
@TheTraditional I see that, it makes a lot of sense. I always thought that Astro looked that way because Asobi team worked a lot with the R&D department and the people that designed the hardware so I just assumed it was sort of like a forced mascot from within.
Either way, I hope that the series lasts long. Plus VR game as well I hope
