SteamWorld Heist 2 is on the horizon, mooring up on PS5 and PS4 on 8th August. In order to get players prepped for the strategic sequel, a series of deep dive videos is exploring its major aspects. The last video gave us a good look at turn-based combat, and this latest episode is all about the story and gameplay in the overworld.

In a nutshell, SteamWorld Heist 2 takes place on the ocean of a shattered planet, a valuable source of water for this universe's steam-powered robots. When something begins to poison this supply, the navy tightens restrictions, raising tensions among botkind. Playing as Captain Quincy Leeway, your first port of call is to retrieve his beloved submarine, which is used to traverse the overworld.

Between the turn-based missions, you'll be sailing about on the oceanic shard. It's a large map you must explore in order to find new locations, missions, hidden areas, and more. There are some enemy vessels dotted around that you'll need to watch out for; if you have sufficient firepower, you can fight back in simple nautical battles.

The submarine itself is upgradable with new equipment you discover on your travels — better weapons, improved armour, and so on. Some upgrades, like a speed boost, will allow you to access new areas, too.
