As the Days of Play initiative from Sony continues, so too do the bonus game additions for PS Plus Extra. Next in line is GTA: San Andreas - Definitive Edition on PS5 and PS4, which is available to download now for all active members. The game is playable on the service for as long as it remains part of the membership. Given Rockstar Games' track record with subscription services, this might not be as long as a normal PS Plus addition.
The Definitive Edition of GTA: San Andreas originally arrived alongside GTA 3 and Vice City in a bundle that essentially launched completely broken. After a disappointing launch, there have been notable updates for the three remasters, but the collection still leaves a sour taste in fans' mouths. Now, at least, you can check it out without having to pay any extra on top of your membership.
When we reviewed the complete remastered collection in 2021, we awarded a 5/10 rating and concluded: "All three mainline GTA games from the PS2 era are seminal pieces, and they still hold up to modern scrutiny β the outstanding GTA San Andreas especially. But as remasters these are weak: they chug on modern hardware and are undone by questionable artistic decisions."
Again, patches have arrived to fix some of these issues in the time since, but it still feels like these three PS2 classics β San Andreas in particular β deserved better. Will you still give the updated version a go on PS Plus Extra? Let us know in the comments below.

... Im good, thanks π
I ready this as GTA 1 and 2 when it said classic lol.
Problem is that Rockstar never keeps their stuff on subscription services long. And itβs a long game to try to finish before it leaves.
Waiting for GTA IV
Taken away and brought back again.
There have been a couple of versions of San Andreas. I think the phone version ended up being the best one with slightly updated graphics. How does this version compare to the others? What is the best version of San Andreas at this point?
Ah s***.. Here we go again.. I'll download it tonight, but having only played the botched Vice City remaster I'll probably delete it tonight as well.
@Dman10 DE is just the phone version with messed-up visuals. The best version of the game is either the PS2 original or emulation (which you can't get any more on PS4/5) or PC. If you want to play the best visual version it depends on what you like. I think DE is ugly and goes against the original art style but I'm sure some people like it, PS2 had some nice assets that weren't ported to other versions. PC is the best since the missing assets from the PS2 version can be modded in, and decent mods do what DE should have, by updating the graphics but keeping the same style.

I watched a Let's Play of the GTA ''Definitive Edition'' by English Ben recently and I see no evidence that anything has been fixed at all tbh.
Still broken, still buggy, still shamefully ugly in places. And the laughable thing about all this is that a true HD remaster would have been a licence to print money as both Red Dead Redemption and The Last of Us proved.
Replaying this game will bring me back to middle school days with horrible weed.. fighting bullies.. mall ratting with no money.. no thank you
