Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are out now on PS4 (and they're obviously backwards compatible on PS5), but if you aren't quite sold on these turn-based RPGs, and you're a PS Plus Premium member, you should know that both games have three-hour trials through the subscription service.
Said trials have just been confirmed by Capcom, and yes, you'll be able to carry over any progress that you make into the full games, should you decide to buy them.
The original Stories started out as a Nintendo 3DS game, while Stories 2 came years later on Nintendo Switch. The two titles have received somewhat substantial graphical upgrades on PS4, and they run at a silky 60 frames-per-second. We happen to think very highly of both adventures, as evidenced by our recently published reviews:

Do you have to play the first one to understand the second?
Probably not going to have time to play both.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner No, I have them both but dropped the first perhaps 10 hours in. The second one is set a bit afterwards, and you might miss a cameo character or so, but a different story completely, and is far and away the better of the two games, even knowing nothing of the first.
@SJH I agree. Second game is great and way more interesting then the first one. If in doubt go for nr. 2!
@SJH thanks for that
I don’t get why you get trophies playing trials. It’s annoying that you may hate a game yet you’ll be stuck with 1% trophies or something
Can somebody confirm about Monster Hunter Stories 1 & 2 performance on PS5?
Will those games running on 60 fps?
@Kiefer-Sutherland I feel that way too, but I understand that we're essentially playing the whole game but with a time limit attached to it, plus the idea is that you'd buy the game and carry on with your save. It would probably require a lot of work to get the trophies to only pop if you bought the game after using the trial.
@Anti-Matter says in the article that they are 60fps
