It’s been almost 20 years since strategy RPG series Phantom Brave debuted on the PS2 to largely critical acclaim. Now, after a multitude of remakes and re-releases, the series is finally set to get a sequel in the form of Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero on PS5 and PS4. It’s due out at some point in 2025.
The official blurb reveals: “Set sail to save the day in this grid-less tactical turn-based challenge from the creators of the Disgaea series. Join Marona – a a gifted young girl with the power to speak to Phantoms – and her loyal Phantom companion, Ash, as she traverses the ocean world of Ivoire, providing aid to those in need.”
The synopsis continues: “When a fleet of ghost pirates attack, it’s up to Marona and her new friend Apricot to assemble the legendary crew that once defeated these spectral foes. Recruit Phantoms, bind them to objects, combine them with Gadgets, even merge them with Marona herself to unleash show-stopping abilities and sink the Shipwreck Fleet. With over 50 characters and 300 skills to master, prepare for an unforgettable journey.”

I found it a little strange at the time that the NIS collections skipped PS4. Now even more so that the sequel to Phantom Brave is coming over.
I remember importing the original ages ago when I lived in Manchester. I don't think I ever finished it but I remember it having a really wholesome and characterful feeling.
The original was a nice original game. I wasn't aware of any remakes or rereleases.
This is cool news, but I'm kind of past playing long rpgs, especially tactics.
I much prefer a streamlined direct experience rather than en open one where you grind for hours.
The original was flawed but enjoyable. I'm not a fan of the new art style though.
I hope the original PS2 game will get a re-release on PS4/PS5 as part of the classic PS2 monthly games release that launched recently.
I never played the original but I'm down to play. Sounds like a really fun system. I would prefer a Shadow Hearts re-release with Koudelka as well but I'll take Phantom Brave, yeah boy!
