Sony has plunged the price of the PS5 and PSVR2 in the United States, as it looks to build on the brand’s momentum moving into the holidays. Right now, across a variety of retailers, you can snag a PS5 Slim for $449.99 and a PSVR2 headset for $349.99. The Digital Edition model, which is a little harder to find, is also down to $399.99.
Here are all the savings:

$50 or 10% is humongous?
We clearly live in different worlds!
(Goes without saying any savings across any consoles are good)
@PsBoxSwitchOwner $200 off PSVR2 is humongous, though.
damn i didn’t know the ps5 (slim) was still that expensive , what the hell? 😂
These are pretty small discounts, aside from the dead PSVR2. Why anyone would buy that thing now knowing the level of support on offer is beyond me.
You would expect more discounts than this if they are about to try and peddle a pro without any big new launch titles to promote it.
Instead they are likely selling it with modest improvements in running the massive amounts of unpolished AAA titles released in the last 2 years.
How is the slim still that overpriced?!
@KundaliniRising333 They've already said they're struggling to get the price of the hardware down. Unlike in past generations, the cost of the components isn't dropping at the same rate.
You're probably not going to get much better deals than these this year, MAYBE a little bit lower on Black Friday.
@get2sammyb I just don't buy that. Especially when it's becoming quite more Evidentially clear that nearly Every industry that claimed inflation and pandemic shortages as a reason for price increases has been found to have massively increased net profit and boast about it in shareholder meetings for 4 years now. Most of those excuses were simply used as an opportunity to price gouge in the name of greed.
Any speculation on what Sony might price the pro at?
I know I’m in the minority here, but for someone who has yet to take the plunge into any form of VR that $200 off is very very tempting. I’ve loved trying out friends’ headsets and my partner and I have a decently long list of games we’d love to play with it.
That, or PSVR1 is now under $200 on Amazon and I have access to a handful of those games for free. Honestly enough on my list to play from that library to maybe justify the older model instead?
The PSVR2 discount IS humongous. Mostly because nobody in their right mind would buy one at this point over a Quest 3 at MSRP, and Sony's just going to let it quietly die.
Maybe we'll see better discounts on the Slim once the Pro is out.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner lol I was thinking the same thing "huge" discount isn't $50 a $500 item. It's a modest sale.
And then they can't figure out why sales are down compared to prior generations. Maybe people can get a third job to afford it?
Psvr2 is a huge discount of course but it feels more like closeout liquidation clearance than earnest attempt to reboot it. I'd like to be wrong. It's a great chance to get into VR for anyone on the fence though. Then again so is the upcoming quest 3s that might run at quest 2 prices.
"as it looks to build on the brand’s momentum moving into the holidays"
It's bloody July.
I didn't realize the digital edition slim is more expensive at its regular price than the original digital edition at launch.
@Ralizah just got one haha looking forward to the pc input aswell though. It's impressive but could do with some more first party games for sure.
Just bring on the PS5 Pro and get it out.
@Jayslow they raised PS5 price even before "Slim" release.
PS5 Pro incoming
Still holding out one more Black Friday for GoW:R. Unless I cave and borrow it from the library after I return Stellar Blade.🤔
You know the outlook instead great when they have to cut the price of the console, and Nintendo never once cut the price of their console after 7 years.
I know many generations have had a price cut on consoles midway through the generation, but games (not a price cut) are what what sells consoles.
If they want to go for the jugular, let’s get all those first party titles rolling out!
@WaveBoy this is really the pricing it should have had to begin with. Yeah I know pcvr kits are way more expensive and quest is heavily subsidized, but if they actually wanted to make it successful for the PlayStation market this needed to be the price at the start.
Just a few weeks till quest 3! . Tough I'm still likely going full pc and adding a crystal light to it. Only thing I don't like about the light is no eye tracking and no better fov than quest. Maybe it'll leave one wanting but the only competitors are bsb (which sucks) the full crystal (which sucks for other reasons), or the coming crystal super that is double the price and has a native resolution even a 5090 won't get close to driving so it'll live and die on the eye tracking. Or the second valve kit which will probably definitely arrive whenever half life 3 does.
@B_Lindz To be fair Nintendo never cut the price of the wiiu and just let it burn until it ran out of fuel. They're not the best gauge of pricing=success.
I wish they would put the DuelSense on-sale.
@Ralizah Well this discount seems to be working because the PSVR2 is currently outselling the Quest 3, the Xbox Series S & X and even the PS5 digital on Amazon right now.
It would be really big if they could get it down to $400/$300 disc/digital to really pump sales for the system especially in Europe
So about £550 - £650 / $650 - $750 for PRO then (if it has disc drive, if not, knock 100 off).
Also guessing these sale prices will become the new prices once PRO is announced.
Nothing to see here
@Haruki_NLI maybe wrong, please correct me if so, but don’t Americans class ‘holidays’ as sometime after thanksgiving until Xmas/new year?
@jrt87 This appears to be a common excuse that defenders of VR like to use. "This is amazing if ONLY you would actually try it."
They seem unwilling or unable to accept that maybe we actually have tried it, and that is how and why we came to this conclusion.
@B_Lindz:
I mean, there’s an entry level Switch that cost $199, the entry level PS5 was $450 until the temporary cuts Sony is being doing this year.
It’s been almost 4 years since Sony released the PS5 at $499 and it’s at 60m . units sold without too many exclusives.
Games will come and the system hopefully will get a permanent price cut before the Pro releases.
@B_Lindz I don't think Nintendo is an indication of anything. I mean, they don't offer price cuts for their games even when stop selling (e.g. Kid Icarus). It's a different strategy. Similar logic applies to their consoles. Even when they're struggling to sell, they're always sold with at least some profit in mind, as opposed to Sony and MS that are/were more willing to take a hit to reach more households.
Also, there is a reason ps2 and ps3 sale exploded after they got a price cut. It's not just games that sell a console, but also price and perceived value. That xbox boss was right when he said that the race to 10m consoles sold is the most important one. Whoever gets there first and with as wide lead from the second as possible, wins the console race, because most people tend to buy whatever is considered most popular.
@LifeGirl you're missing the point people are raising. Obviously some have tried it and didn't like it for whatever reason. That goes without saying. Just like there isn't a single game ever released that every person on the planet has tried and liked/loved.
The point many are raising is that VR offers a unique experience that any kind of description pales in comparison to the product offered. There isn't something similar that one can compare it to to give others an idea of what it feels like. That's why some have suggested booths where one would get to try a game and see for oneself. They may like it, they may not, but at least they'll have first hand experience. As opposed to something like Stellar Blade or Mario Wonder whose appeal is obvious to someone interested in that kind of a game.
@jrt87 actually it's literally impossible to talk about the majority. We have no evidence to make such a claim, either that most haven't tried it and that's the reason they don't see value in it or that most have and simply didn't like it.
I can only speak for myself. I really enjoyed some PSVR1 games, but hated setting it up every time. Playing PSVR games became a chore. The experience on PSVR2 has been vastly different. I almost play every day and love it. Had I not tried PSVR2, I'd probably think it's similar to the previous model and never bother to get it. But that's just me.
@nomither6
hey there slim(y)
PS5 is selling very well, so why lower the price? You pass off criticism, that misses the mark, as incredulity, but what you fail to deliver is ar-gu-men-ta-tion as to why it would be lowered.
I get that you have been working hard towards the appearance as someone with the charisma of a punching bag, so I have to say congrats, you're nailing it.
Ps5 has been discounted more often than not over the last 12months, and it's still not been enough to keep pace.
The whole industry is not in an amazing place right now
@LimitedPower
I couldn't get into PSVR1 personally because of the graphics, but PSVR2 is just enough for me to be glad to have the opportunity. I have been extremely lazy in using it, but that also means that I still have a solid backlog, and Gran Turismo 7 is just a nice game to play on and off as a casual non-competitive and non-grinding player.
@Ralizah
How are you going to play GT7 which is the best VR game available?
And PSVR2 is coming to PC which would extend the use case.
I have yet to see that many SONY PlayStation games for PS5, so maybe the strategy could be to develop games that will be playable on the headset like Capcom has done. Or maybe we settle for 3rd party titles only. The library for PSVR2 is incredibly strong and it only Asgard's Wrath and that valve game I would want to cross over.
I have even used my headset as a home theater so I could lie down and look up in the ceiling for a perfectly comfortable viewing session (aside from having something strapped on my face).
Now, is as good a time as any to try the headset. I recommend it for those who can afford it, as it greatly diversifies the gaming experience.
@LimitedPower At less than $200 PSVR1 is a decent deal but if you could I would hang on till you can grab the 2nd.
Some great games & experiences on VR1 with Ace Combat, Star Wars Squadrons, Moss, Astrobot, Arizona Sunshine, Walking Dead, Beat Sabre etc but the 2nd iteration is leagues ahead and the controllers are fantastic, a few games available on PS extra now too so you will have some games to go at if you subscribe.
As others have said RE & GT7 are worth the entry price alone but there are many many great games, I don't regret buying mine and looking forward to Metro and Behemoth!
Thank God the price is still 650€ here. I was almost forced to buy at a poor people's discount
30$ for most of those games is not a good deal considering how old they are.
Meta has now lost $45 billion chasing AR, VR and the Metaverse.

It's a shame Sony didn't support Bluray3D with PS5. Even video files via USB aren't supported. PSVR2 is very affordable for the film fanatic. A 3D projector and silver screen cost $1000s. PSVR1 didn't do too well here because the resolution was so low. I would buy a VR2 if it supported media more. Even YouTube VR isn't supported.
with all the financial loses sony is about to take on its live service games over the next 12-36 months or so, as well as the possibily of the ps5 pro releasing, sony is bound to drop the price of the base ps5 to something a little more reasonable for those holding out. now is NOT the time to buy a ps5 when a true price drop is immenent. not to mention, the software library is still lacking as we continue to wait for the system sellers... maybe in year 5 and 6 they will emerge? sure, next to the switch, the ps5 hardware has 4X the value and is more justifiable at the price point... that said, the switch has a FAR superior library to the ps5 currently as far as console exclusives are concerned so it is strange trying to rationalize the hardware from sony and nintendo. suffice to say, i don't like the price points of either of them and the cost of 1st party nintendo games (never dropping below $55CAD) is a true barrier to entry
@EfYI Good to know, thanks!
@Mostik Ah yeah I hear you. Games like Squadrons and Astro are big pulls for me bc I really don’t think they’ll end up on VR2 any time soon, but saving toward the newer model is probably wiser in the long run. Thanks!
@LimitedPower Yeah it is a shame for such good games not to come over, not sure of the US price but here in the UK the PSVR1 is less than £100 and at that price it is well worth a punt. https://www.amazon.co.uk/PlayStation-9827054-Sony-VR/dp/B00I9WWBCQ
Do we know if these are just temporary sales? Or is it a permanent price drop? I'm tempted for PSVR2 but I can't justify it right now, even at the lower price.
Selling out all over! PSVR2 has some big games releasing just around the corner so this is the perfect time for the price cut. Behemoth, Wanderer, Alien and Metro that we know of! Legendary Tales out earlier this year. GT7, RE4, RE8, Horizon, Saints and Sinners 1+2 (included in PS+).
It's a shame PSVR2 has no games. It's sad that Sony has abandoned it eye rolls.
@LimitedPower I'd say go for it, but definitely get PSVR2. If you have any interest in VR and own a PS5, $350 is a steal. Don't listen to the doom mongers, as the library has enough great games to last for a lifetime. And more is on the way, with Metro, Behemoth, Alien, Wanderer and Aces of Thunder, just to name a few.
I got mine at launch and it completely changed my gaming habits. VR is so much more compelling to me, that I have barely played any flat games since. I was told the "magic" would quickly wane but, after 18 months, I still regularly get those unique "VR moments". And the actual dust gatherer in my home is the DualSense.
@EfYI touch grass
@Art_Vandelay Appreciate the input! I have a hunch it’ll become similar habits for me when I finally take the plunge.
PSVR2 for $200 off is a great price. I am hoping Sony will continue to support it and release some more games that utilize the hardware more.
Maybe I am missing something. There are many things labeled with a "deal" tag on the PlayStation Direct store, but are not discounted at all. The Portal, for example, says it's a deal, but it is still $200.
I am also incredibly surprised there are some Spider-Man 2 collector's editions available still approaching a year after launch. That is wild. I never pre-order games unless there is some sort of collectible I must have, like the Venom statue in this case or the statue with Space Marine 2. If I knew I could just buy the collector's edition whenever, I would not have pre-ordered (because pre-ordering is all-around a dumb idea and sends the wrong message).
Until the PS5 digital gets to £300 I'm sticking with my PS4 😂
