Hot off the heels of its official announcement earlier this month, Frontier has provided the first look at Planet Coaster 2 gameplay in a deep dive presentation that focuses on how theme parks and water parks have been combined into one experience. You can see the PS5 sequel in action in the video above, complete with commentary from senior leads Rich Newbold and Adam Woods.
The deep dive focuses first on water rides, with slides having to balance excitement, fear, and nausea to create the best experience for trunk-wearing guests possible. Frontier has worked to allow you to create pools of all shapes and sizes, as well as ensure the water itself looks appealing for those wanting to take a dip with a vibrant colour.
When the roller coasters get involved, the video showcases how you can customise the trains and track more than the original. You can once again experience your created roller coasters from the first-person perspective, and that feature has been expanded to the water slides too. In the next deep dive, Frontier will go in-depth on the tools you can utilise to actually put your dream theme park together.
Planet Coaster 2 launches for PS5 at some point in 2024. Are you excited for the PS5 sequel? Put your first impressions in the comments below.

Confusing title, since that's PC footage.
This looks fantastic. After Astrobot this will be my most anticipated title for the rest of the year.
Yes I’m excited. Planet Coaster was an incredible return to form for Themepark builders. This will be day 1 for me
@KoopaTheGamer ps5 releases same day as pc, so it's not a big deal. And they could be showing the ps5 version using a pc since that's where games are developed anyways.
@BeerIsAwesome they have planet zoo. Not sure if they have whales though
Day 1 buy for me. I'm. Excited
@Cutmastavictory Yes, but the user interface is likely going to be very different in the PS5 version. A good or bad UI can really make it or break it when it comes to these building games.
@BeerIsAwesome not only technical but also taxing on hardware.
People forget but this has to run on pc and ps5, its a balancing act, esp once the park becomes bigger the amount of memory these types of games has to use is unbelievable.
Take cities skylines 2, most pcs can't even handle a realistic population number due to bad optimization and balancing of the games engine working in the back ground.
So to have customers who interact and have thoughts about rollercoasters, rides, waterslides, in and out of pools and then add animals or sealife into all of that, I bet that's an absolute headache to optimise, maybe they do add that in a dlc but who know.
On topic though, what theme park in the world has a theme park and water park mixed into one?
And can I make just a water park and not a theme park.
@Bez87 city 2 and planet coaster were optimized very differently.
@KoopaTheGamer I think the interface will be similar to planet coaster 1 which was pretty good.
@BeerIsAwesome I know there is a couple where they have a water area, with a few little slides which is within a theme park. Cant remember the name but I remember 1 I went to and it had a pool area but no slides.
Not saying its not a fantastic idea to do it, its a great evolution of the theme park genre.
But just like disney world, they have 2 or 3 independent parks which are water parks, or tenerife which has siam park.
I hope its implemented in a way I could just make a water park and it can stand on its own as a seperate identity and be profitable hopefully that makes sense.
And to what you wrote before, yes I believe consoles had a hard limit but that hard limit if with animals would be greatly reduced or performance would suffer. But the have done a great job with porting the game to consoles so I have faith.
Love the original- my only issue was with staff quitting inevitably no matter what you do. If they refine the management system, this could be a great sequel. Also (maybe I missed it) as I didn’t watch the full video - co-op would be amazing addition.
@BeerIsAwesome yes definitely wouldn't work in real life.
I'm trying to learn and hope that, I can open a water park exclusively with no rides within the game and be profitable and that it doesn't need to be a hybrid theme park with a tact on water park.
Think disney world typhoon lagoon or blizzard beech.
Or take Siam Park for example the actual size of that place is the size of a theme park with 2 wave pools.
I hope there is a wave pool that's a huge part of many water parks.
