PS5 Firmware Beta

Sony will kick off a new firmware beta for PS5 this week, beginning on Thursday the 25th July. The beta boasts three main features: audio customisation, additional Remote Play settings, and an "adaptive" charging method for your controllers.

To start with, those who make use of the PS5's 3D audio functionality — via headphones or earbuds — will be able to personalise the tech to their tastes. Basically, you'll be able to create your own audio profiles, which means that you can adjust individual elements. All you have to do is head to your console's sound settings and tweak things to your liking via a new setup process.

Next, a pretty simple quality-of-life improvement lets you choose who can connect to your PS5 through Remote Play. Handy if you've got friends and family who take turns accessing your system.

And finally, there's the adaptive controller charging. The catch is that you need a new 'slim' PS5 model in order to try this out, but it sounds like it could be somewhat useful. When charging a controller in rest mode, you'll be able to select a new 'adaptive' option in the power saving settings, and this essentially charges your pad based on its current battery level, which can save energy.

So, it's not the most impressive firmware update we've ever seen, but these additions are still welcome. Are any of them of particular interest to you? Remember to charge your DualSense in the comments section below.
