No other theme park management sim has ever quite managed to reach the highs of the classic Roller Coaster Tycoon games, but the attempts keep on coming as it's announced Parkitect will debut on PS5, PS4 later this week in a Deluxe Edition format.
The release bundles together the original title with two DLC packs (Booms and Blooms and A Taste of Adventure), and features new button mapping options and a redesigned UI to make the experience "comfortable" on consoles. You can see it in action in the trailer above, with the PS5, PS4 launch set for this Wednesday, 3rd July 2024. The Deluxe Edition on PC costs just under £40 / $45, so expect a similar pricepoint on PlayStation consoles.
"Parks need planning... more planning than just deciding where to put that crazy rollercoaster," the YouTube description says. "Decor using scenery to higher up the immersion, hire staff and handle their jobs, upgrade the park with advanced systems and transit options, manage the prices, assemble the rollercoasters and maximize your client’s fun!" Alongside the base game, the two expansions bring more rides, customisation options, levels, themes, and shops.
It's been almost six years since the original PC release, but at the time, the original experience got a Metacritic rating of 83. Eurogamer recommended the experience and wrote: "Like Theme Park and RollerCoaster Tycoon before it, Parkitect manages to capture the essence, the sense of wonder and exuberance, inherent in the best amusement parks. The sound, the music, the vibrant hues and twinkling lights, the screams and laughter of your appreciative guests, and the delightfully intricate machinations of every ride - all working to create little vignettes of warmth and life that make your toils to please your tiny digital guests so much more rewarding."

There's something about the colour palette of this game that makes everything look so drab. I'll check it out if it reviews well though, been a big fan of these sims since the original Theme Park.
Would be a day one buy, but Daybreak comes out two days later. Reminds me of Planet Coaster coming out right before the PS5 launch where I had to set it aside until I had more time.
Er.. Wut?
You can literally kill the innocent visitors by take out the bridge, let them drowned and died??
@Jayslow I bought planet coaster before I ever had a ps5. I had to support the devs for bringing it over. Lol.
Looks like I'll be buying this. Management Sims, especially park Sims I definitely support. I bought this on steam, didn't play it much though.
@Anti-Matter Did you ever play Rollercoaster Tycoon?
@Cutmastavictory oh I did too. Just meant I didn't really get to it until months later.
@BenVenn
Ah, never.
I only have Planet Coaster on PS5.
@Intr1n5ic probably the greatest theme park game ever made.
Its been out many many years on pc and its grown so much.
Its absolutely amazing, they finally cracked the point of theme park games where the attractiveness of the park actually matters
@Bez87 Really, you place it above Planet Coaster and Openrct2?
I just read a few reddit posts after seeing your comment and it seems to be held in high regard.
@Intr1n5ic very much higher than both. But in its own way.
Planet coaster is a great edition to the 3d space with less limitations, but with 3d comes alot more complexity.
This game is the master piece or the perfection of what roller coaster tycoon tried to be back then.
Well worth a try if you enjoyed rct2 and the openrct.
The unique aspect of parkitect is the fact that decoration is important and isn't just a tool to make your parks look good.staff paths and back room areas give negative attraction and you have to cover them up and if you look on you tube there are some very clever ways.
You have to get the supplies to the shops and this can be a negative on the park unless designed correctly.
Its brilliant
@Bez87 Apologies for the late reply, I just saw this.
I went ahead and bought it after reading what you said. I love the sound of scenery and decoration actually having a purpose rather than being purely aesthetic. It was only 20 quid as well, definitely worth a punt.
I should have a couple of hours free tomorrow to try it out. I'm just hoping the devs did a good job with the controller config.
@Intr1n5ic let me know what you think.
Unfortunately can't comment on the controller config, I exclusively play these games on pc for that exact reason, ive never been comfortable playing with controller but thats due to always having the option of a pc.
@Bez87 I feel the same way every time I play a game like this and unfortunately it's the same here. They've done a good job, it's just a bit frustrating at times with the different combinations of button presses to access everything. The game is excellent though, I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I think I'm gonna look in to building or buying a PC myself around black Friday though. I've been playing Anno and Crusader King's recently and it's the same story there with the controls. I'll definitely buy this again when I do.
@Intr1n5ic exactly my thoughts, you've hit the nail on the head.
These games are just miles better on pc plus you can change all of the keys to suit your own play style which I have done with most of the games you've mentioned.
Its the reason why I have a pc. I did spend 4 grand on mine but that was over 6 years ago now.
You could build a decent pc for 1k I think. I'd do some research, you should be able to get a ps5 level pc these days for that, maybe a little lower but for these games it's well worth it and enough.
As a huge Planet Coaster fan, I shall be giving this a try.
