Bandai Namco has released new gameplay footage of the upcoming action adventure title, Unknown 9: Awakening. In it, you get to see about eight minutes of the game, with an emphasis on combat and stealth encounters.
The main hook is that lead character Haroona has the ability to "step" — a power that lets her temporarily manipulate a parallel dimension. This manifests in various fun techniques, the main one being she can briefly possess enemies. You'll use this to create opportunities in combat and pit enemies against each other.
Haroona can attack with melee strikes as well, but once you have enough power, you can also push and pull enemies around, as well as the aforementioned possession. It's a neat idea that gives combat a twist of strategy.
When you're not engaging in fights, it appears the game will have you exploring and clambering through picturesque locations. You're rewarded for exploring with collectibles which in turn grant you points to spend on numerous skill trees.
It doesn't look like Unknown 9 is pushing too many boundaries, but it's often these AA level titles that end up being the most interesting. At the very least, the step abilities look entertaining. The game is due to release in the fall of this year.

The strategic part of the combat look really promising, but everything else is really uninspired and mid. Pass
Looks insanely bland, generic, uninspired, fists pack no punch and that one parasitic company is involved. Next
When I saw this for the first time, I just really felt like I wanted to go into a coma.
The combat looked interesting if a little muted in terms of impact. My biggest gripe though is the traversal system. I really don’t like the system where jumping, climbing, falling only where the devs clearly marked and made interactive. It’s been really overused lately and is really artificial.
It’s like a game entirely designed by focus group. What a beige reminder that studios are stuck in the same trends they’ve been chasing the last 10 years.
Looks interesting. I think it'll be like Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum - It won't be anything groundbreaking, but I'll have a good time with it.
Game looks alright. Nothing mind blowing, but alright.
I had my eye on this game, but man that gameplay does not look good. We've all played this type of game before. And why are brutes always big bald guys in shirts?
Forspoken 2.0
Kinda surprised this isn't a JRPG with a title like that. At least then it'd be "par for the course", now it just makes this even easier for people to probably not even glance at.
Who thought this name was a good idea tomorrow I'll forget it.
