It's not exactly a rarity these days, but it can still be jarring to see a game's file size weigh in at three digits. Releasing for PS5 in a matter of days, the preload for Black Myth: Wukong reveals that it'll gobble up 104GB of your console's storage space. It's a big one.
The size doesn't come as a huge surprise, though. As we've known for a while, Wukong is very graphically intensive, and that kind of detail and artistry often comes at a price, especially when a game seems to boast so many unique assets.
Still, a lot of players are going to have to make some room. Here's hoping that the action title's worth the effort, because as you may have heard, PS5 review code simply isn't available yet. We'll be sure to let you know how it runs on Sony's current-gen machine as soon as we've played it for ourselves.
Are you hyped for Black Myth: Wukong? Will you be making space for it on PS5? Tell us what's getting deleted in the comments section below.

Fingers crossed it at least runs ok 🤞
I've yet to experience current gen let alone worry about storage issues 👉👈 can't help but wonder if GTA6 would top the storage charts once again 🤔
With such graphic detail and boss numbers, it's not surprising at all
Holding back till I hear performance wise for PS5. That’s the only thing I’m concerned about, after still seeing the Cyberpunk scars on others.
Can devs do better optimization with their games because these 100-200 Gigs for one game are ridiculous.
Imagine if your PS5 doesn't have external storage at least 1 or 2 TB, you pretty much gonna delete multiple games from your almost full internal storage just to make room for this game. And it would be annoying if you want to replay those games because you must delete Black Mtyh and reinstalled the games while waiting the updates to finish again.
Activison with their COD is probably the worst offenders when comes to bloated / unoptimized size. Yesterday i tried to download COD Blops: Cold War from PS+ and my PS4 HDD has like 150 Gigs free space. I checked only the story campaign & multiplayer without the zombie sh*ts but it gave me a message that it can't download the game because my HDD doesn't have enough space, like holy hell how big is this game?!
For everyone curious, Playstation China released PS5 footage of the game the other day and you can find it on YouTube. I'm no performance expert, but it looks pretty solid to me.
But is it going to be 104GB of clunky frame rates and random crashes?
@dskatter This.
A lot of games seem to be 80ish at minimum and around 100ish at the most without serval updates that is.
No surprise it’s a big game, hoping that the PS5 runs and performs well.
I’m waiting till the physical version with discs is out to get it
@PuppetMaster
Yeah Sony have really given PS5’s better storage space and also give the option of playing games off the external hard drive like you could off the PS4.
I have most of my games on the external hard drive so at least I have them stored somewhere instead of just being uninstalled and deleted all together
@Enuo
Someone who knows better may correct me, but im sure that performance issues that are present in a game are not always (as) noticeable in a video - i think it depends very much on the recording method.
That is a lot.thats why a storage is important to get.games are getting bigger.word up son
Shall wait for push square full PS5 review first.
Wonder if it’s PS5 Pro enhanced, going by rumour every game has to be in some way after end of July 2024. Or something like that I think.
Wish Sony would let us know about PS5 Pro as may well hold off on this one until it releases, to play the game at it’s optimum.
Made sure i had it spare ready as games being 100GB+ is standard now. Also making sure i have the same space ready for SW Outlaws as well.
@PuppetMaster 4K textures take up a lot of space as does huge maps and all that. You want current gen games well this is the cost of it and its only going to get bigger and bigger. Sucks but a visual heavy game like Black Myth with multiple big maps was never going to be less then 100GB.
They need to implant ps5 kraken technology
Waiting to first see how it runs on the PS5. I hope its not a cyberpunk situation lol
PSA there’s a short clip posted to IGN Chinas YouTube channel of the game running on PS5 and it looks smooth. It’s a small sample though so it obviously doesn’t fully resolve the concerns but maybe a bit encouraging
I have 2TB and I often delete games that I ain't playing anymore, size isn't a concern.
Now, I'd like to see some performance metrics before deciding if I should purchase this or just skip it.
Cannot believe that primer they sent to influencers was actually real. VGC’s Jordan Middler sh*tting the bed coming out saying it was fake far too soon when journos weren’t given the same crazy brief that influencers were. Being told not to mention ‘feminist propaganda’, China’s industry or even just a mention of Covid is absolutely wild. Expect this to be covered on here once more details come out about who’s responsible for the presser.
I don't really think 100GB is all that big these days
@KillerBoy Who says they haven't? Its smaller then the PC version.
@Frmknst People who have no interest in selling games like myself.
@nessisonett I thought multiple sources have debunked it? Has something changed in the last few hours?
@nessisonett I agree totally bonkers, I thought it was debunked too but now a bunch more people coming out. I think it MAY be fear of retribution on the developers part but definitely need to see how this plays out. The “feminist propaganda” is especially strange…
Installed and ready to go. Releases at 3 AM on Tuesday. I work lates, so I'll be able to play it as soon as it's up and running.
@WizzNL Hero Games are also a major shareholder in Game Science, so it’s hard to see how highers up could have been unaware unless shareholders can act outside the interests of the board without any repercussions.
Had a look and Hero Games own 18.99%, meaning they’re the largest external shareholder in Game Science even after Tencent’s investment.
@ShogunRok hi hi, sorry if this is out of the blue, but are you guys still unable to get the ps5 review code? 0.o
I don’t necessarily require a review of that per se, if the pc version is enjoyable enough, I can get that instead. I just hope the devs aren’t hiding any bugs in the consoles version… that would be tragic v.v … c’est la vie
@DennisReynolds - Stellar Blade file size is 30 Gigs
These are some PS5 games that has great graphics & 4K but doesn't take 100 Gigs. And i can understand for open world games like FF VII Rebirth, Horizon FW, or Spiderman 2 that took 100 Gigs. But for Black Myth Wukong, while the visual looks great but does it really needs 100 Gigs? It's not even an open world game.
Like i said, devs could do better optimization especially with current gen hardware & software.
@WhiteRabbit I could understand that if this game is an open world game. But i believe this isn't.
@Yousef- No PS5 code yet, we're expecting it at launch. Obviously means we won't have a review until the game's out but we'll be as quick as we can!
@PuppetMaster Outside of SB's more open areas its a fairly linear game, DMC5 is a PS4 game and RE4R is fairly linear as well. Black Myth is a U5 game, has maps bigger then all the maps in GoW Ragnarok combined (going by reports from Chinese players) and is a pretty huge game with jaw dropping visuals.
Games are not getting smaller its just not realistic especially with games like this. Wanna know why the 4K cutscenes in MK1 is an optional download? Because they're 35GB in size and MK1 is already at 140GB.
@WizzNL So basically who knows right now. God what a mess, the Devs really need to speak out.
@DennisReynolds Games not getting smaller because devs doesn't want to optimized and so obsessed with making games looks shinier which effects little to none for the gameplay 🤷♂️
And from some review, they said there's very little interaction with the environment. I don't know if that's true or not but if what you read is true about this game has bigger map than GOW Ragnarok, it looks like they doesn't add anything outside eating your SSD free space 🤷♂️
@DennisReynolds clearly not enough
@PuppetMaster also Elden ring was huge open world game and was no where near 100gb
@DennisReynolds 100gb plus is definitely not the standard. Anything over 100gb should be classed as large and is probably not optimised well.
@PuppetMaster Yeah pretty games look good for trailers what then help them sell more. Games are getting bigger because again stuff like 4K textures are massive and then you have sound, yeah that high quality audio we love in are 3D sound headphones yeah that's massive as well. Once 8K games happen in the future you will be missing 100GB sizes.
@KillerBoy The average AAA game is near 100GB or past it. FF7 Rebirth is near 150gb, Ronin is 95gb, Tekken 8 is 82gb, Avatar is 86gb, MK 1 is 140gb now, BG3 is 120gb, Spidey 2 is 87gb, FF16 is around 107gb with its expansions. I expect Outlaws next week will also be huge as well.
Already made plenty of space for Wukong and Astro Bot. I’m pumped!
I think that's just bad filesize optimization. Don't get me wrong, the game looks beautiful and clearly has high quality assets. But I don't think it's worth over 100GB.
@DennisReynolds like I said anything over 100gb is classed as large and you just listed a couple of games under 100gb. Most games over 100gb are poorly optimised or not been compressed very well or requires unnecessary downloads. For example with mortal kombat most of that file size will be because of the story mode which people only play once and that’s it.
