The Dark Pictures Anthology continues with Directive 8020 from Supermassive Games. Taking the studio's penchant for horror into the realm of sci-fi, the game's announcement trailer can be viewed above.
The trailer introduces us to an optimistic young cosmonaut ready for adventure (played by Lashana Lynch), before hard cutting to a future where she's facing down a creepy alien doppelganger. It looks like her whole crew will be at risk of falling victim to these mimics too, which should play rather nicely into situations where you have to make tough choices.
According to a press release, Directive 8020 will feature the branching narrative you'd expect from a Dark Pictures game, but it also builds on that with some new ideas. The most prominent of these is "persistent real-time threats", which sounds to us like these alien creatures will be constantly hunting you down. Complementing that will be new stealth gameplay and "enhanced interactive cinematics". The game is being made in Unreal Engine 5.
The game is heading to PS5 in 2025. Are you liking the look of Directive 8020? Tell us in the comments section below.

2025 is ridiculous. Really feel a lot of devs will struggle with big games at this point because the year is stacked.
Weird time to announce this too as historically I think those have come out in Aug-Nov timeframe, we're one year out from that.
Been waiting for them to do sci-fi and since this was teased in Devil in Me it's been on my must buy list.
The faces look so realistic they look awsome this one looks fantastic.
Damn, they're still making these? With wanna be 007 no less.
@Icey664 Awww diddums
Am I supposed to know who 'Lashana Lynch' is, considering her name is specifically called out? Sounds like the stage name for someone acting in movies for especially mature audiences.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed the first three Dark Pictures games (especially House of Ashes), skipped the fourth because the setting looked dumb, but this new setting looks to be the best yet - love me some sci-fi. Hopefully they rotated out the face models, though; it felt like they only had maybe a dozen of them, and they were constantly re-used throughout the first three games (e.g. the two guys from the prologue of the first game were playable in the second and third). Really killed immersion for me every time.
No interest in this never liked Supermassive's stuff tried Until Dawn and Man Of Medan and didn't like either don't get the appeal of their games to be honest but that's just me
@Golem25 She was Maria Rambou in Captain Marvel in and she was in the last awful Craig, James Bond movie don't care for her don't think she's that great an actor and this might just be me but she just gives this miserable, angry vibe that makes her unpleasant to watch 😅
@itsfoz you want them to released an unfinished game
