Developer Larian Studios set the new benchmark for ludicrously detailed RPGs with its revolutionary Baldur's Gate 3, which was developed in a somewhat unique situation (given the time and resources to achieve the developer's vision, with input from the community). It should come as no surprise, then, to learn that the studio (or "the machine", as we've come to prefer) is currently working on two games simultaneously, and both are shaping up to be behemoths.
BG3 is approaching its first anniversary, and Larian CEO and founder Swen Vincke sat down with PC Gamer to discuss the studio's predictably ambitious next projects in a refreshingly frank fashion: "The machine is meant to make large games. We were made for making large, ambitious RPGs and to try new stuff."
Having swollen to some 500 employees split across seven international studios and with a war chest brimming with gold, Larian is re-investing its largesse into what it knows best. The once-scrappy studio seems set to become a significant player in the RPG space for years to come, and we can't help but be excited. Following a meeting in Barcelona, in which the studio discussed "lift-off", it seems like we'd all best prepare for the roleplaying onslaught to come: "We actually know what we want from our gameplay systems, how to evolve them, how to do new things... and they're all big."
Are you excited for our seemingly inevitable, Larian-led future? Where are we supposed to find the time to play bigger, ever more immersive RPGs? Roleplay having enough time to do everything you like in the comments section below.

Use your annual leave.
I just hope one is a sci fi game. We need sci fi crpgs. I trust they’ll be quality regardless though.
Whem I'm in the mood for a hardcore rpg, I play Cyberpunk without any patches
Hell yeah, push that PS5 to its limits baby!
If they give up the turn based combat, I'm game.
If not, all the best to them, not my cup of coffee.
Divinity original sins 2 excellent games and the amazing bal gate 3.larian studio got the juice.word up son
I adore Larian studios since "Divine Divinity" era.
So... Bring it on...
@Shinnok789 I’m the same
I really want to like Larian RPGs. Multiple re-starts on Divinity 2, and the demo on BG3, and it just doesn’t work for me. Something about the isometric style RPGs doesn’t click with my brain because I have never been able to enjoy Diablo either.
I'm mostly excited for the "new and different" stuff. Their recent games had a little TOO much variation. I'll never get to see it all and it sorta kinda drives me a little insane xD
don't know if I'll ever get to BG3
BG3 is probably my second favorite game of all time, just after Elden Ring. They removed the awkwardness and repetitive elements from the Divinity games and made something truly special, with deep characters and an overarching story I cared about. The turn-based combat is probably the best I have ever seen, and I dearly hope they don't change that (I can't stand real time with pause, it's way too confusing). I will admit to being concerned about them not holding on to the DnD license, but I have a feeling that, regardless, they will be giving us some excellent titles for years to come.
So the studio that made the best game ever made is making further games? How could you not be excited? So ready for whatever they do next. I kick-started Divinity 2, bought BG3 Day One in Early Access, and am the proud owner of the PS5 Collector's Edition (unopened, I might add!). I'd have to be dead not to be present on the first day of Larian's next game, and I'm really hoping that won't be the case... 😉
I'd love for them to do something with Magic the Gathering. Give them the keys Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro!
@Losermagnet Unfortunately, Hasbro has probably burnt all their bridges with Larian. So, there will most likely be no more Wizard of the Coast partnerships.
@AverageGamer ah I was unaware of any discourse; that's too bad.
@Losermagnet Larian CEO has been very vocal about all the lays off affecting the game industry... Notably the Hasbro one that happened right before Christmas last year that completely whipped out the team that help make BG3.
I’ve always been happy to commit hundreds of hours to truly great RPGs. Doing so with Kingdom Come Deliverance at the moment. Working my way through everything and considering multiple playthroughs for the plat. Also commonly put in 100hrs into the Yakuza games. And certainly did so as a kid on the FF games up to 10, and games like Skies of Arcadia and Morrowind…I’m ready as long as the game is good. Hopefully the increased cost doesn’t require additional monetisation.
