Secret Level, a new Amazon Prime anthology show inspired by the universes of 15 different games, will debut on 10th December – but spare a thought for the episode dedicated to Firewalk Studios’ first-person shooter Concord, which producers must have thought would be a bigger deal. There’ll be an entire episode dedicated to the game, while other bigger PS Studios franchises like God of War will share another.
It’s unclear exactly how this came to pass. Perhaps there’s an element of product placement at play here, and Sony is paying for Concord’s inclusion. It’s possible, we suppose. Alternatively, maybe the producers thought that the game would be much bigger than it’s turning out to be. Obviously, as we reported overnight, the shooter’s launch weekend numbers on Steam have been dire to say the least.
Of course, there’s still approximately three months until the series airs, and there’s still a small possibility the game’s overall performance can be improved. But that episode is looking like a bit of a misstep right now, and we’re sure the producers must be quietly scratching their heads behind the scenes.
Will you watch Secret Level's Concord episode? (931 votes)
- Sure, if I'm enjoying the show overall
- Ehh, I might skip that one to be honest
- Nah, I'm not interested in this show

Will deffo give the show a look but each episode should’ve been focussed on an established video game ip or brand… not the new kid on the block who is receiving a perpetual wedgie.
Imagine a world where the episode is incredible enough to explode Concord's popularity. The master plan all along.
@ShogunRok is that the same world where poverty doesn’t exist, there are no wars and hunger isn’t a thing?
Such a strange choice, unless this episode is simply a form of marketing funded by Sony - which calls the artistic integrity behind the entire endeavor into question.
Best case scenario it slightly increases interest in the game. Worst case, and probably more likely scenario, is that the game is already dead and buried by then and this only invites more ridicule.
A good game, with a lot of fun to be had
Not great or an all-timer, but good & some fun nonetheless
To see people slate it who've never experienced some of the fun it offers is bizarre, still that's the social media world we live in
I'll watch it, but if the writing is similar to the game, I won't enjoy it.
I'm more annoyed that they chose Concord over every other PlayStation IP to get a dedicated episode. We could have gotten an animated Astro Bot short or anime Horizon bit, but no...
I'm not sure how this show is supposed to work but if it's good overall I see no reason this specific episode shouldn't be.
That said, it is a surprising choice and I would assume it's being sponsored by Sony... but then I wonder how it works for others, since I can't imagine Spelunky's or Sifu's publishers doing the same thing.
Come on.
Marketing? Paying for it?
Be real. It’s only coming on air nearly 4 months AFTER release.
It’s amazing what rubbish people can come up with.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner paying for Concord is indeed not something many have done
Did we really need hindsight, when it was pretty heavily anticipated that Concord would do poorly?
@ShogunRok Let's be honest here: this game has already been forgotten. And i'm not even trying to insult it by saying that, i'm stating the truth. To bounce back from player numbers this low would be miraculous.
At this rate they'll announce EoS before the episode releases.
Every episode will be "product placement" these companies wouldn't give out their IPs for artistic reasons alone.
The secret level episode could be an opportunity actually, if it's well received it might get the game some momentum or a possible way to take the franchise forward.
I don't think there's much hindsight needed here, unfortunately
Hey, if the show does okay then at least the IP isn't totally dead, just the live service part of it. If they are smart they could turn it all around, write off the first game, and do something else entirely with the IP, even reference an alternate universe where all this happened in a game that no one played 👍
The deal was you can do an episode of God of War as long as you do one for Concord.
Don't forget they also made a controller for it.
The only limited edition that has yet to sell out
Man these devs must have had a rough weekend. Living in this excited bubble for all these years build up to a release and then realise you have one of the biggest AAA flops in gaming history and nobody shows up for your party
Over at Reddit I already saw people complaining about matchmaking times now that it a weekday. There were also a bunch of complaints about matchmaking quality now that the game has a very small community playing in groups of 5 butchering new casual players.
I will try this once it is free some day
Sony 100% paid for it. This show is the most laughable attempt at product placement I’ve ever seen, the fact it’s Amazon of all people says it all.
Pushsquare: why are people piling on this game it's fine!
Also pushsquare: spare a thought for this garbage dumpster fire, also the bi-hourly steam figures are in and there are less than 3 players online! God how embarrassing for them!
Are Concord still alive when the episode released in December? 🤔
The sad thing is this game got its own episode while classic Sony IP's like Wild Arms, Alundra, Dark Cloud, Parappa, ICO, Siren, or Legend of Dragoon probably doesn't get mention in PS Studios episode. I predict they only showed the very popular ones like GOW, TloU, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, GT, Killzone, or Uncharted.
Well I've been enjoying the game and I haven't got an issue with the characters. So I will certainly be watching the Concord episode.
@atoqir Sony really did think this game was going to be a huge hit for them with all the marketing they have done for Conord such as this tv episode and the aforementioned limited edition controller. This stuff is planned out years in advance. What is so funny as Sony clearly bet on the wrong horse as for Helldivers 2 they had 0 marketing for it. If Sony was smart we would have had a helldivers controller and this episode would be about the helldivers universe but we aren't so lucky. The only official merch from Sony are those shirts and mugs clearly thrown together quickly in photoshop
Concord: The game that makes Gravity Rush finally look like the smash it it deserves to be!
@Neither_scene It's the same one where people said we didnt need the Last of Us remake/remasters and somehow still sold good enough.
@NEStalgia Get mad at the gamers not buying these great games.
The feedback from the community has been largely negative since the hero shooter and price point was announced. I don’t know how Sony or the studio ever thought this game would be a hit. It’s either an incredible oversight, or just plain ignorance and not listening to your consumers.
No to the controller, the game and this.
Just no.
@PS_HCT Yeah ..me too...I think the game is great and I have 1000's of hours in the COD franchise so something like this is not only new and exciting to me...but they can really do a whole lot more with this in the future. I really think that peeps just need to give it a try....I would assume they will have a free weekend, but I have already gotten my 40 bucks worth and then some.
“Perhaps there’s an element of product placement at play here, and Sony is paying for Concord’s inclusion.”
Perhaps? My operating assumption was that all of the episodes were paid for by the respective publishers.
@MeatyVeg Not great or an all-timer, but good & some fun nonetheless
Why should I waste my time on a game that isn’t great when there are so many absolute bangers available to buy or already in my backlog? It’s an honest question - I play a lot of games, usually 2 hours or so a day once the Mrs has gone to bed - and there are tonnes of great games that I haven’t touched, some of which I’ve already paid for.
It is sad really. The game is one of the best Fleshed out Hero Shooters to date with every character unique and plays well, no Bugs or Glitches, everyone is balanced, one of the best looking games to date, free updates with characters down the road, more modes and maps And only for $40. Yet no one showed up to try it because it was $40 and uninteresting Character designs.
Everyone is b****ing about it, and they haven't even touched it and that is the sad part. The reviews say they loved it, and the Players actually playing say they love it but the lack of players is hurting it. They make it free 2 Play, but any new characters and cosmetics shouldn't be free. While existing Characters should be locked and only be unlocked by playing.
But that won't happen. If it had more players I would play it for $59, but because I am in Australia, that would be impossible.
'If it bleeds...we can kill it'
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I have a bridge to sell you if you think any of the games there aren't there for marketing or product placement.
Publishers have paid for them all, guaranteed.
