Update: Well, the arrival of The Exit 8 on PS5 and PS4 has clearly had an impact. As reported in the original article below, the PS Store was already home to a title called The Exit 9 — a blatant ripoff of The Exit 8, which was quite clearly designed to try and fool users into thinking that it was related to the horror-tinged walking sim.
Just 24 hours since The Exit 8 dropped, The Exit 9 technically no longer exists on Sony's marketplace. It's now titled Exit 9 Metro, and it's even ditched the yellow logo.
It's unclear whether Sony, publisher PLAYISM, or developer KOTAKE CREATE has had to step in, but at least the plagiarism isn't quite so obvious anymore. Hopefully these changes will result in less confusion for potential buyers.
Original Story: The Exit 8 has just released on PS5 and PS4, but if you go looking for it on the PS Store, you'll likely be greeted with another game called The Exit 9. But despite both games sporting almost the exact same logo and colour scheme, The Exit 9 has nothing to do with the creepy, highly rated walking sim that is The Exit 8.
The Exit 9 is essentially a ripoff. It was released onto the PS Store back in January, just a couple of months after The Exit 8 had made its debut on PC via Steam. The Exit 9 is quite clearly trying to trick people into thinking that it's the same thing — or at least that it's related in some way.
Interestingly, PS5 players seem to have caught on to the ploy. The Exit 9 currently has a user rating of 1.90/5, based on 322 reviews. A quick Google search also reveals numerous threads across Reddit and Steam, all of which point out just how much of a blatant ripoff The Exit 9 is.
Now that The Exit 8 has officially released on PS5, it'll be interesting to see if PlayStation actually does anything about The Exit 9. The simple fact that both games immediately show up upon searching (with 9 actually showing up before 8 depending on what you type) isn't great for The Exit 8 developer KOTAKE CREATE — and you can bet that plenty of people will have already been fooled into thinking The Exit 9 is related to the real deal.
So, who's behind The Exit 9 in the first place? Well, on the PS Store, it's credited to Gaming Dev SRL — a company that's released a number titles on Sony's digital marketplace. And guess what? All of them seem to be heavily based on existing games.
It's no secret that the PS Store has a problem with shovelware — just go ahead and search 'simulator', and you'll be met with an ungodly number of asset-flipped titles, complete with AI generated key art. It's a mess, but this kind of thing starts to become a real problem when original games like The Exit 8 are being buried under shameless copycats.
If you're thinking about grabbing The Exit 8 on PS5, then, make sure that you're actually buying the real thing. In the meantime, feel free to let out a heavy sigh the comments section below.

Wow, the logo is almost identical. How was this allowed?
I presumed it was, and then tried searching again in case there was a whole 1-7 I had to play first. A quick Google search thereafter got me this information though.
@get2sammyb
It’s not a logo as such, it’s the kanji for exit. And a yellow background. Maybe if they were a big company they could try to trademark with the font or something, but…
@thefourfoldroot1 I guess you're right, but it's clearly designed to deceive people into thinking it's a different game.
@get2sammyb
Oh that’s clear, and Sony should definitely have some rule about not being able to release thumbnails too similar to any other game, just on the basis of consumer confusion.
thanks for the heads up! 🙂
@get2sammyb It was allowed because the PS Store has become a complete shambles. Same thing that happened to Steam, same thing that happened to the eShop. The lack of moderation is ridiculous, it’s making actual indie devs’ job so much harder.
@nessisonett True! There's a LOT of crap these days.
Sony really need to get a handle on the store. It's a mess.
@get2sammyb Saw a game yesterday which was called something stupid like Beach Invasion 1944, barely looked real and was essentially a game where you defend Normandy from boats full of troops. While using Panzers…. meaning that you’re playing as the Nazis.
Surely Sony would make MORE money if they have fewer games on the store but of higher quality? And developers who actually worked hard would get more exposure and reward for their efforts. I have no idea why they have let it get to the state it is in.
@get2sammyb You want to look at all the supermarket simulator games that have been added to the store this year, just because one became really popular on Steam.
@get2sammyb Because Sony doesn't give a s%#t. If that hasn't been blatantly clear the last few years. There at the top now and could care less about QA.
wow these are shameless tactics kick this studio off of the PS store
@AdamNovice @Ken_Kaniff @Kanji-Tatsumi I think a big problem is one man's trash is another man's treasure.
It's clear that curation would eradicate a lot of this crap, but where do they draw the line? At some point they'll end up denying something that blows up.
So I kinda do understand why they keep it open. I think the PS Store just needs to be a LOT, LOT, LOT better at showing you the things that have actual value.
Playstation store needs some "Gad of War" and "Sp1derman" games, see if Sony does anything about those. 😝
I don’t even look at the games listings anymore, I just look at my wishlist. Things like pages and pages of entries for dlc for a single game are ridiculous, there should be a hierarchy
@rjejr I buy all my tvs from Panafonic and Sorny
It's the same on the Switch e-shop. Shovelware garbage absolutely everywhere and Nintendo just don't give a damn. Oh? a clock? and why would I buy another clock App when the clock on the Switch already is perfectly adequate? it's just ridiculous.
@DrVenture69 i decided at one point to just add all new interesting titles to my wishlist so i never had to shift through shovelware in the sales, until I hit that 50 games limit I didn't know about.
Now I remove all games in the filter that are less than £1 which helps somewhat.
@DrVenture69 I think you can filter out dlc items on the store?
@get2sammyb That's just how the subway signs are in Tokyo. Still I'm amazed Sony allows for this to happen, it's clearly made to confuse people and get some sales of of that.
Came to the comments hoping to find some info on how the game is 😅😅
@BecauseBecause ah, I didn’t know about that or the 50 item limit (that seems way too low!). Thanks
Well i read your news post about The Exit 8 being out so i bought it and Exit 9 assuming they were 1 & 2....🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ well im off to give my bank details to a prince in a distant land that says ive won the lotto👍
The exit 9 will be getting a physical release funded entirely by the Nigerian price who has inherited 9 trillion dollars but needs your 100$ to get to it
Funny how the ripoff is almost 4 times as expensive as the real thing when not discounted. Exactly zero shame.
And the CZAR has added the definitive piece of wisdom!
Thanks Pushsquare community Hospital is being a Hospital, I needed the laughs🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@nessisonett Thank god I have never used this garbage store besides using my DLC codes. 😁
@rjejr Don't forget Incharted. I heard that it's supposed to be a rock solid series.
@DrVenture69 The day I discovered how to filter DLC out of the PSstore sales was a great day! 🙌🏼 Enjoy!
Those mistakes shouldn't happen to people like us who are well informed but it's still a problem that needs to be solved by Sony one day.
@TommyNL "Incharted" - Play as a lone incel Nuthin Fake searching throughout his house after his mother takes away and hides his collection of pron magazines. Tomb Raider meets The Sims." IGN says 7 out 10 too many tissues. 😂
Where's Exit 1-7?
Is this game has connection with ExitMan Deluxe?
The ps store needs an option to ban any game we don't want ever to see in it.
And of course a wishlist.
Just look at new sortware, just for fun count how many idiotic games from aaiaeastsoft xiuani ltd piapia. and 100e worth of nonsense chinese crap in there. I mean, there must be some really good developers in there. But the same goes for the car industry. At some point we'll be flooded with too much crap.
@rjejr haha sounds good when is the dlc coming?
Sony should have a new genre on the store: shovelware.
All this crap can be placed there and tagged anywhere else in the store with the shovelware tag.
The combination of the fact that Sony does little to no moderation when allowing games on their platform and the fact that they don't allow refunds is going to haunt them someday.
Update comment: I was thinking they should have called it "Metro Exit 9" but then I remembered there is already a Metro series of games so this will have to do I guess. 🤷♂️
@TommyNL DLC is "Insurrection: The Search for Cosplay Camo". 😝
Outrageous. But, silver lining.. just bought it. Hadn't heard of it before sounds interesting
Isn't this copyright infringement? Why isn't Sony blocking them from the store? I looked on steam and there's actually quite a few games on there with exit 8 added at the end of their name.
As somebody who was fooled by Gaming Dev SRL in the past... DO NOT PURCHASE ANY OF THEIR GAMES... They are complete trash.. And yes they copy popular franchises to try to confuse players solely to get their money..
A lot of the screenshots they use are AI generated with the actual game looking 10x worse..
Their next game is apparently a bodycam shooter which looks identical to Unrecord... Do with that what you will ....
@Jayslow Agreed.
@Dadou PS Store already has a wishlist...
The PlayStation Store needs new management that actually understand e-commerce and a complete rethink.
There is a lot of shovelware being pushed in the PS Store, I suspect Sony allows it out of desperation. I saw one saying "Bodycam project" trying to imitate the Bodycam game
