Publisher Devolver Digital and developer All Possible Futures have finally announced a release date for their upcoming 2D/3D hybrid action platformer, The Plucky Squire. Revealed back in 2022 with a delightful debut trailer, the game is launching at last on 17th September, 2024.
What's more, it's also been confirmed that The Plucky Squire will be available from day one on PS Plus Extra, meaning members on the Extra and Premium tiers will gain access to the game at no extra cost.
The date is delivered in typically charming style with the above trailer, which features some gameplay but steers away from showing off too much. Instead, main character Jot puts the release date together himself inside the storybook, seeing as everyone was asking him for it.
Anyway, we really can't wait to finally get our hands on this one. It's always looked wonderful, and we're looking forward to seeing all its surprises ourselves in a little over a month.

I am actually looking forward to this game.
Also coming to PS Plus! I’m very excited for it.
Dang, September is STOCKED. Astro Bot, Plucky Squire, and Zelda all in one month?
This is easily amongst the games I'm most looking forward to for the rest of the year
Hey @Quintumply Eurogamer says this is DAY ONE on PS+ (though they didn't say at which level) thoughts?

Have been looking forward to this one for 2 years, as has my kid, and it releases on their birthday, so that's a given.
Being on PS+ at any level makes me think it will be cheaper than $50 Astrobot as we don't see a lot of $60 games Day 1 on there. I didn't buy World of Goo 2 b/c $30 seemed like too much for just more of the same but $30 would be a steal for this.
Congrats to the PS+ subscribers, nice get.
Picking this up after I platinum astro bot
Wow, I've been looking forward to this for yonks. Would've paid full price day one but for free? Even better!
Nice smooth update about PS+ Extra @Quintumply Was thinking about maybe subscribing again but I honestly don't even know how much Extra cost, gotta be close to $100, so I'll just buy this game instead. If this and Astrobot were on PS+ Extra then maybe.
@rjejr Nice! Might up to PS+ extra for this one. Looks like the price may be right
That's a very good pick for the service. When it comes to the Day 1 games selected for Extra, they've done very well pretty much every time.
Looks good. If I find the time.... i'm very stacked of games to play right now, must finish some to add others.
Actually looks quite good. Hard to get excited with all the games in my list to play though. Its not top tier.
Been waiting for this for quite some time. I love some of the creativity I've seen in previews and I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it.
@somnambulance JFC I just looked it up and PS+ Extra cost $135 a year, I wasn't even close w/ my $100 guess. 🤑 Though paying $14.99 for a month to play this, can't imagine it's more than a dozen hours, would be cheaper than buying it. Maybe I can find a 1 week free trial if I look really hard.🤷♂️

Thanks. I'm gonna go start a movement on Twitter where everyone signs up for 1 month of Extra for $15 to play this then drop it. mwah ha ha ha ha 🤣
Ugh. Guess I'll give it a pass until there's a deep sale.
It does look delightful, though. PS+ subbers seem like they're in for a very good September.
The art style makes me want to vomit, really don't get what everyone sees in it. Glad for the people that like it, but this is an easy pass for me.
This is one of the most imaginative games I've seen in a while. Was already planning on snagging it. Super excited it'll be a part of PS+.
September is insane for me. Astro Bot, Ace Attorney, Zelda, and now Plucky Squire. Wild.
@rjejr your memory isn’t wrong. It was $100 until a price increase last year 😅
I've been looking forward to this for ages. Wukong next week, Astro Bot two weeks after that, and then this and Dead Rising two weeks later. Eating good in to October.
This is great news! The game looks absolutely adorable, and unique. I can’t wait to play it.
Looks amazing, easily one of the most exciting games this gen along with Astrobot:)
Brilliant news. One of the most interesting games around launching day one on extra. This nearly makes up for the neverending list of ***** games they've put on plus lately!
Super news! Excited for this and will download day 1 now it's on plus 😎
@Ralizah Sign up for 1 month of PS+ Extra for $15 (or your local currency equivalent) instant sale. I doubt this will be more than a 12-15 hour game.
@ztpayne7 My memory isn’t wrong it’s just non-existent. I guess the 1 good thing about losing your memory when you get old is forgetting how old you are.😝 I am in for $15 for 1 month for this though, also really want to play FF Crisis Core Reunion after we just finished Rebirth. So $135 bad, $15 good. I know it’s kinda splitting hairs but I’m an old cheap unemployed penny pincher.🤑
Great title on paper. A win for the eligible players, I think.
Best news today. I have been looking forward to this game for a while. Easily one of my most anticipated titles for the year. I was planning on purchasing day one and now I don’t have to because it is on Extra.
Ugh these games giving no breathing room
That's superb news. Well happy with that
Quite sad for me in one way, this is the type of game I surely want a physical copy of. That said, im buying. I don't like singleplayer games I really want to play being tied to a sub and id rather support the developer with my money this way.
Awesome news, looking forward to this! Maybe if it's awesome I'll buy the inevitable physical copy later on.
what a bonus to have it on PS+
Finally, D1 buy for me
@rjejr It’s like $45 for me to upgrade to extra for the rest of the year. Depending on what Plucky Squire’s retail price is, I may jump in on this. I miss Dave the Diver anyway, so if it’s cheaper than buying the both of them digitally, I sort of figure, why not?
Wow what a get for Plus.
Somethings gonna have to fall by the wayside. Maybe that Star Wars game if the reviews are around 7
Hail yes great news ^✋
Great, was looking forward to this one. I'm guessing this will be time limited much like sifu, stray etc so will play this in amongst astro
Yeah I've been interested in this since I first saw the trailer so I'll definitely check it out.
N.i.c.e. the debut trailer of the plucky squire looks really cool.more games is always interesting.word up son
Unironically one of my most anticipated games this year. We will be playing this with the Astro Bot controller
@RBMango Yes plus God of war Ragnarok on PC and Windows handhelds and Age of Mythology: Retold on console, PC and Windows handhelds.
Heck yeah! Can't wait for this one
Anyone unsure about this one, check out skillup or the latest Friends per Second podcast. Really sold me on it
This is an awesome day one Plus game
Very Cool! Roll right into this one after AstroBot...Can't wait for September!
This looks really cool! Can’t wait
I've been so excited for this since the reveal. The fact that is day one on PS+ Extra is a bonus, as I would have bought this Day One.
I’m in the “really looking forward to this” camp. Absolutely love what I’ve seen of the art design so far and keen to see if the gameplay mechanics translate it into something that’s both fun and uniquely clever beyond just the trailers. 😺
Had this in my wishlist for quite a while now. But if it's coming to PS+ then I guess no need lol. I'll take it!
@Golem25 I feel the same when I see your icon 😉
Given it's on the Switch, I'm surprised it's not on the PS4 too - family friendly title for those on a budget. Maybe the devs only had the new kits?
Still, my Extra runs out in December so I'll boot up the Tub o' Lard for once and give this a go.
@somnambulance I wish companies would announce a games price when they announce the release date. World of Goo 2 just released recently and I don't think they announced that price until the afternoon the game released.
My kid and I were discussing it yesterday and we decided on $40 for Plucky Squire b/c it doesn't seem as nice as $50 Astrobot but certainly better looking than WoG2 at $30. And companies almost never bother trying something not ending in 0, so it's not going to be $38 or $42. Well maybe in other countries, the US likes everything ending in $*9.99. 🤑
So I'm going to guess that $45 upgrade would work out well for you. I added Dave the Diver to my wishlist though I really only want to play it for the Godzilla dlc which is extra. Same for Gigabash. Godzilla is everywhere these days, except it's own game. 😥
@rjejr 3 years ago, I would’ve said Plucky Squire looks to be the epitome of a $30 game, but the world has changed since then. I’m really curious what its price will be, as that will certainly be indicative of how long the game will be. If it’s $20, I’m guessing the game will be 5-8 hours long, but $40, closer to 25 hours. I don’t care either way how long it is though.
I'll give them my money the game looks fantastic.
@somnambulance I do care how long it is, that's a direct correlation for most of my purchases, but I don't think there are a lot of indie games lasting 25 hours these days, though I could be wrong, I have very limited interests in indie games as I'm a graphics snob. So I'm guessing 8-10, my kid says "everything is 12 now" though I think they were generalizing a bit.
I know they just played $30 Cat Quest 3 which took them about 8 hours, played it in 3 nights, and they 100% it. Cat Quest 2 took them about 12 hours, 4 nights, so the new game was both more expensive and shorter.
If Plucky Squire is $40 and 12 hours I can live w/ that b/c it looks that good and my kid wants to play it as well. I wonder what we get first, reviews or a price? 🤷♂️
fwiw, IGN has a preview video where they play a "demo version" and it's 3 hours, so I think that's reassuring
