Zenless Zone Zero has been out for almost a month now, and while it launched with a dozen characters and three full story chapters, it’s time to learn what’s next for the free-to-play RPG. During a livestream earlier today, developer HoYoverse spilled the figurative beans on the ‘Undercover R&B’ update, which is scheduled to officially release on 14th August.

First and foremost, there’s a new redemption code you'll want to redeem for Polychromes:

Right, as previously leaked, there’ll be three new characters added to the game, available across two timed banner windows. First up is S-Rank Electric Stun officer Qingyi, who many of you will have already met during Chapter 2 of the main story. Her kit is especially adept at inflicting Daze, and unsurprisingly she partners well with Zhu Yuan.

She’ll be followed in the second phase of the update by Jane, an S-Rank Physical Anomaly member of the Mountain Lion Gang. We’ll get to know her better during the new story updates, and we’ll even be able to control her around New Eridu City to complete various quests that further the narrative. HoYoverse says it’s looking to incorporate more ways to control Agents within the world.

If that wasn’t enough, a third A-Rank Electric Defense character named Seth will debut alongside Jane. He’ll be able to sustain teammates using his riot shield, and also damage opponents using a sword. Elsewhere, a new S-Rank Bangboo named Officer Cui will be added to the associated channel for you to spend your Boopons on.

In addition, there are a ton of events to look forward to, including the flagship Camellia Golden Week, which will feature Polychromes to earn and a new A-Rank W-Engine. You’ll also find a minigame where you need to help customers repair their VHS players, and a visual novel-style mode where you turn your hand to law enforcement. And you’ll finally be able to take selfies!

All of this will launch alongside an update to Hollow Zero which will allow you to skip the TV-based navigation gameplay and get straight to the rewards. You’ll need to have made significant progress in the mode to unlock the feature, so it’s something you may want to focus your attention on prior to the update launching.

To conclude its first post-release livestream, HoYoverse shared a letter from the game’s director stressing it’s committed to making long-term improvements to Zenless Zone Zero, and that some of these changes will take time to implement. Honestly, we think the game’s already in a decent place, but it’s good to know it’s committed to the long-term health of the release.
