Last week, God of War Ragnarok was released on PC, and predictably, players on Steam lamented Sony's PSN mandate, promptly resorting to review bombing the game. Swiftly, a mod was created to get around this pesky requirement, and just as swiftly, its author pulled it from the internet, fearful of Sony's legal wrath.
The since-deleted PSN bypass mod was so popular on NexusMods that the admins actually reached out to the creator to confirm the reason for its removal (thanks, VGC). Apparently, the author chose to remove the modification because it "got too much attention (even IGN and PC Gamer wrote an article about it), thus I thought that it would be better to remove it" to avoid any "potential threats from the Sony side."
We want to point out that Push Square also wrote about it and could be considered a prominent news outlet (in the right light), but that's neither here nor there. It would be quite interesting if Sony took an interest in the development because, as far as we're aware, the wonderful world of PC modding is uncharted territory for the firm. Still, with Nintendo preparing to introduce the Palworld devs to a world of legal hurt, perhaps it's wise not to mess around with these platform holders.
Would you risk your livelihood to help others avoid Sony's insidious sign-in screen? How far will you go to avoid logging in to PSN? Lay low until the heat is off in the comments section below.

Sony about to ask Nintendo to borrow their lawyers when?
Ah what a shame.
They made the right call. Not worth potentially getting into legal trouble with Sony just so PC gamers that probably have multiple accounts have to create one less.
Tbf look what happened to the Denuvo cracker, they literally went AWOL.
How would Sony know who this person is? Unless Nexus provides Sony with all the info?
Same thing as boneheads announcing every emulator site on X and wondering why they get shut down.
@vrubayka or maybe some people on Twitter would keep spamming the PS channel to get attention from PS to see this and do a lawsuit against the dude?
I don't know. Palworld got on Nintendo's radar mainly because people on Twitter kept tagging Nintendo and TPC about the game.
@vrubayka It may seem extreme but well, Boeing had hitmen. Corpos have their ways.
@anoyonmus I'm pretty sure Palworld got on Nintendo's radar cause it sold like 10 million copies.
Not surprising, like how immediately after Eurogamer interviewed Luke Ross the vr modder, Rockstar issued cease and desists, and then wouldn't even reply to him OR patreon about that copyrights he allegedly violated considering he doesn't distribute any rockstar materials, just a mod for their game. They never replied and that's their game. Threaten, then ghost, so if you want to find out what they're accusing you of you have to face their litigation in court. Even if they're bluffing, which they've done before and lost to a modder in court. But most can't risk their whole life to find out. Sony may not be like Rockstar but they possibly are.
It's already out in the internet. So good luck when Sony knocking your door with a lawsuit.
Another L for PC gamers. F
@GloriosaDaisy i know right ? they get better versions of sony games and free online with helldivers 2; it’s a common pc L
They shouldn't have released it in the first place, not worth the risk, not for this.
I'm surprised Sony didn't slap them with a "cease and desist" during the time it was live, they usually don't waste such opportunities.
@nomither6 Looks like I hit a nerve lol.
Sony will realise that PC gamers won’t accept PSN. PSN and platforms are under Japanese lead, so there‘s hope for reasonable thinking and action.
I dont agree with the Account requirement practice on single player games (I do with multiplayer), but they must have known modding a game like this was illegal.
Understandable, who wants to run the risk of getting the attention of corporate lawyers.
That's why you should always release things like this with instructions on how to make/update it and and release it far and wide. The hydra known as the internet can't be stopped.
@GloriosaDaisy nah i’m just messing around 😛 i thought it would be a funny comeback
@Bigmanfan its sold 25 million copies
@jrt87 I dont allow myself being stupid when I can enjoy good games.
@nomither6 Better versions if their PC is up to it and the port isn't a mess.
@Toot1st oh gosh, that's a lot.
@jrt87 Star wars games are pretty good, new Prince of Persia, Immortal Fenyx rising and we can hope new Assassin's creed game is good.
Also most Playstation games are good also but you wouldnt know that since psn hurts you.
@Bigmanfan tbh, I don’t think they would have cared anyway even if it did if people hadn’t kept tagging them on Twitter. It’s all up there.
@anoyonmus i really don't think that affected anything. Nintendo gets tagged on twitter a lot over a lot of things. They're not suing to appease fans, they're suing because of the money they'll get if they win. This game was likely on their radar before it released, and they spent the time after release building up their case against it.
It will now be dispatched by users to avoid been hosted on NexusMods
