When Bleach: Rebirth of Souls was first announced as an arena fighter, we had our concerns. Anime-based brawlers have been so hit and miss over the years that we couldn't help but question the direction — especially when it comes to such a beloved franchise like Bleach, which has been out of the spotlight for so long.
Thankfully, we've been handed a whopping 25 minutes of raw gameplay footage — and the game actually looks pretty damn promising. Taken from a recent developer stream (thanks PS360HD2), the showcase covers Ichigo, Yoruichi, Rukia, Byakuya, and Gin.
The visual style's spot on — especially with all of the bold text overlays — and the animations look crisp and punchy. Granted, there's a lot going on and some of it can be hard to keep up with, but we're sure that'll be much less of an issue when you're actually playing.
At this point, our only concern is to do with how often fights seem to stop and start, with characters unleashing round-ending special moves and transformations multiple times in one match. These cinematic sequences aren't particularly short, and the worry is that the game's pacing will be thrown off.
Still, Rebirth of Souls is looking good overall. Are you impressed with this footage? Never give up in the comments section below.

I just want to go Hollow Ichigo vs Ulquiorra and relive one of the most brutal fights of all time.
Do we know how many characters there are?
@themightyant Not yet, they're still releasing character trailers every week or so.
This doesn't look very good to me but I feel this way about most of the games in the genre
This looks incredibly average to me. Regardless of the level of polish, seeing the first AAA Bleach game in over a decade just do what everyone else is doing is just underwhelming.
That said, they just announced Rangiku for the game, so I'm now obligated to play it.
Fights look a bit too long with about 3-4min, but I really like the overall style. Will definitely give it a go.
I like the style, but still not hooked on the gameplay.
I think it looks really good. Far better than most anime fighters we've gotten in the past few years. I'm glad its done by another dev (tamsoft I think) and not by cc2 or byking again. Not sure how far the mechanics will go but it still looks pretty fun
Bandai just doing this ***** so they can keep the gaming license for this anime.
Think I'll be sticking with Bleach: Brave Souls.
Still just another fighter game. Only the plot is different, same dumb brawler.
Excited to play this. Bleach just doesn't get enough gaming love. Last one I played was on the PS3, a Dynasty Warriors clone.
Also, I've memed a few times on previous articles about how Ichigo has yet to use his trademark Getsuga Tenshou in any footage yet. Here... it kinda looks he is actually using the attack but not calling it out. So it is kinda funny that it still hasn't happened yet... kinda lol. The fact that his ultimate attack (or at least one of them???) is an attack he used against Byakuya but never again is kinda odd. Similarly, the dash attack that Byakuya used (against Ichigo, unsurprisingly) is not one that I think he has used often, if only once.
