Horizon Zero Dawn's PS5, PC Remaster Is Very Much the Real Deal 1

There had been rumours of a remaster of Guerrilla’s 2017 open world adventure Horizon Zero Dawn for quite some time, but following the unexpected announcement of LEGO Horizon Adventures earlier this year, some speculated that insiders may have got their wires crossed. Actually, it turns out the PS4 re-release is real, as it’s just been rated by American classifications board, the ESRB.

The remaster, slated for launch on both the PS5 and PC, harbours no surprises according to its description: “Players guide Aloy as she learns to hunt robotic creatures and animals in the wild. Aloy uses arrows, spears, and explosive traps to injure and kill machines, boar, and occasional human enemies.”

Many will be dissatisfied at the existence of this remaster, arguing that the original game is perfectly playable on the PS4 and with backwards compatibility on the PS5. We’ll need to await more information to see exactly what’s been changed here, but we suspect it’ll bring the whole experience in line with sequel Horizon Forbidden West, which obviously had better graphics and gameplay.

Still, we predict there’ll be much hand wringing around this release. Many feel that Sony’s failed to deliver on its promise with the PS5, with long development cycles meaning we’re yet to see debut new-gen projects from the likes of Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch. While we don’t necessarily agree, it’s going to take a lot to convince us Horizon Zero Dawn is legitimately worthy of a remaster right now.
