While we reckon Horizon Zero Dawn is an overall excellent game, there were some side-quests in the original that had some horrendous voice acting. It’s great to learn that developer Nixxes, in partnership with Guerrilla, has actually gone back and re-recorded over 10 hours of dialogue for the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, then, which will presumably massively improve on some of said sub-par takes.
It shows that this remaster is more than just beautiful visuals – in fact, some of the motion capture has been redone, too.
We’ll obviously need to wait for the game’s 31st October release date in order to determine exactly which bits have changed and why, but we’re really happy to see Sony go the extra mile with this release – especially seeing as original owners will be able to upgrade their existing copies for just $9.99.

Yeah I think that was already mentioned in the SoP. Re-mocapped too, though I heard the original mocapping had a funny bit where Aloy rolled her eyes when she shouldn’t, gotta look it up if it’s true.
I'm fine paying $10 to upgrade my play at home Covid copy, but does anyone know if there will be a physical copy of this and Lego Horizon?
It's pretty clear that a lot of work and effort has gone into this I love this game to bits and it still looks stunning but it did have some issues that this has fixed like the janky animations when talking to NPCs. Again for 10 quid you can't really go wrong again yeah this did not need to exist and yeah there are other games that needed this treatment instead but at the end of the day they made it and I'm not gonna turn down a better version of one of my favourite games for so cheap no matter how unnecessary it was 😅
“BuT iTs jUsT A cAsH GrAb!!!1!1!1!1!”
To be honest, I had zero interest in this rumored update before seeing the trailer. My mind was changed and I will definitely be ponying up the $10 for it.
$1 from me for every hour of new recordings!
The dialogue and delivery were my biggest gripes with this game. Just so toothless and pathetic.
Brutal post apocalyptic world and everyone's just so... bleh?
Cool to see they've redone it, but I'm still not gonna play it again lol. Amazing combat, world and premise, but it suffers from modern gaming tropes where the world can't have a speck of dirt, where the character can't have any flaws or be dirty in any way and where everything's just too clean and shiny.
I just played the game through to platinum not even 2 years ago and I honestly can't think of anything that really felt particularly badly voiced that it needed to be rerecorded. Maybe it is "better" but nothing jumped out as needing to be made better. It's not "arrow to the knee" territory here.
Plus did they re-record main characters or just randos? Because to me I think having the voices from actors 10 years older than the first time changes the feel, and especially if it's not 100% of all dialogue will sound too jarring.
For $10 it's not a bad deal, it's a fair mod, but I still find the choices here confusing.
@SolarSailor I love Ashly Burch's work (especially in Life is Strange), but I found her performance as Aloy a bit overly earnest
10$ to fix the one major problem with HZD. No more Uncanny Valley conversations!
@TomasVrboda I'd be very surprised if there weren't physical copies.
My favourite game. I'm glad they improved it. Since I have the memory of an aquarium fish, it will almost be like a novelty for me. I'll be happy to replay it.
@dskatter I was of the same opinion as you..another cash grab remaster. And then I watched it and saw the asking price and I was pretty much instantly sold.
For the work that appears to have gone into it, it’s well worth the £10 upgrade.
Fantastic game, one of my favourites of the ps4 era
Even though I have the plat on the PS version and will probably never play the game, and even though I still have the unending bloat of HFW ahead of me, and had decided while it was on sale last week that I didn't need HZD on PC, I just grabbed the og version while $10 keys are still available after they jacked the price back up just in case I want the PC version of the OG later (especially since it has a VR mod, though the remaster will probably get one too, OG probably runs way better.) There's no upgrade for PC copies, but still, for $10 at least I have it.
@wildcat_kickz Thanks for the reply mate. Cheers
I thought I’d not care about this but after seeing the side by side and for only $10-$12 i will replay it down the line. The first game also had a better pacing. But I’d LOVE to see this kind of upgrade for Days Gone even more
I knew they would lol! Im betting I already know EXACTLY all the dialog that's been changed in order to better fit the new version of Aloy they made for the Forbidden West: Burning Shores dlc.
They’re adding in culturally relevant jokes like Aloy saying WAZZUPPPPP
@Chaotic_Goat i feel like if nixxes does the remaster for days gone , i'm all for it. deep in my mind i have this false hope if a ps5 days gone remaster does well then maybe a sequel or a spin off will get pushed.
i'm going to do a ng+ on the remaster, i'm pretty excited for this. i was a fan of the game and they are making a good game even better.
The biggest thing that bothered me about the first Horizon is how weird the face mocap was.
I hate so much being the negative guy… and I really mean that… but this franchise leaves me so, so cold.
I don’t like the lead character, I didn’t like the law (to the point I was skipping through dialogue on my first attempted playthrough) and crucially,
I didn’t even really enjoy the gameplay.
We can’t all like everything, so this not being for me is fine… but personally, I wish Horizon would take a backseat, because there’s so much better stuff Sony could be championing.
@Deadlyblack it is because they didn’t actually use mocap in the first game. Guerilla was trying to be different and animate all the facial features themselves through small intricate puppetry, like those advanced robots you see online. The problem is that it sits the characters right in the middle of the uncanny valley which is why this is such an improvement.
Rather just have horizon 3 tbh
@NieR_Dark cool you don’t like Horizon, nothing wrong with that. Doesn’t mean there are objectively “better” things Sony could be focusing on. Horizon is a huge hit for Sony, selling well over 30 million copies in only 7 years of existing. That is more than the sum total of the entire sales for Killzone, Resistance, Infamous, and Twisted Metal franchises combined. Sony would be stupid not to realize that Horizon is a new pillar franchise for them up there with the likes of God of War and Uncharted. Turns out you are just in the minority with not liking it.
Like a few said here, the ps4 game looks amazing still on ps5, and smooth, just the face animations in convos are a little basic, so i guess it's a nice way to up immersion into dialogue.
But i like aloy delivery, very smooth, natural, i hope they didn't redo voices.
The gaming industry has become similar to the movie industry. Barely any new concepts, just a lot of remasters of old stuff.
Like that Legacy of Kain shown on State of Play, yeah lets do that instead of making an entirely new game based on that franchise with modern technologies, and something to take advantage of the PS5 Pro coming.
@The_Wailing_Doom a good way to explain it.
@PloverNutter oh totally, I didn’t mean to say they should abandon the franchise at all… because it clearly is very popular.
I meant more in terms of remasters. Because, even people who like the game seem to agree, this one wasn’t really necessary. And where do you draw the line? Will there be another remaster for these games when the PS6 comes around? Surely the best thing is to let the games be a product of their time and focus their attention in something new (wether that’s Horizon or something else).
@NieR_Dark but their studios are making new games , these types of remasters don't really take away from anything because the studio that does these ( nixxes) , is mostly a pc port / remaster / support studio. so its not like they are taking resources away from having a new game developed.
